After so many recent seasons in the top flight are we now one of the big boys in the Championship ?

We'd have to go down another division to be considered one of the "big boys".

We will have a good idea after the first dozen games next season.

When you consider Norwich finished 6th this season losing 15 games our record is incredible having lost less games in over 3 seasons. Norwich have been considered one of the top championship clubs of recent seasons.

Possibly - current Transfermarkt value of squad including loan players is £256m excluding those out on loan
Leeds £205m and Southampton £189m are nearest if not promoted third. Hull next highest are on £109m.
Relegated Sheffield are £144m and Luton £125m - with Forest £370m

Yes we are, but Luton will be strong as well and at least one of Leeds and Southampton (possibly both) will also be up there

You’d imagine whichever one of Leeds or Southampton stays in championship will have to cash in on a couple of players, with the reduced parachute payments.

When you look at Leeds really there’s only Archie Gray and Summerville who anyone might think about paying good money for.

Then Southampton have a big squad full of championship quality players, not sure on them, they probably only have Walker-peters who would generate a good fee for

They have a few more than that. Gnonto, Rutter, Meslier and Ampadu come to mind.

Yes, I’m very proud too. But we have a big advantage over many other teams in the Championship. parachute payments. That doesn’t mean automatic promotion back, but it gives us a very good chance. UTC!

Depends what you class as 'good money'. Pretty sure they would generate enough to invest well for Championship level.

I was more suggesting that by selling gray and Summerville for good money they then wouldn’t have to sell more of their better players.

If you look at Leicester and Southampton this season, Leicester sold barnes to Newcastle and Maddison to spurs which pretty much meant they didn’t have to sell anyone else.
Southampton sold Lavia for absolutely crazy money to Chelsea and then sold ward-prowse to West Ham, which again meant they were able to keep players without worrying financially for 12 months

Next season we are, and possibly the season after that. If we failed to get back up in the first two seasons, our relevance is diminished and we sink to a mid table side who may make the play offs. After that, we become a Blackburn or a Preston. That’s why we cannot stay there too long.

Add Watford and Sunderland to that. At worst Huddersfield.

That’s unlikely for this summer I’d suggest. Leeds, for example, in the last full financial year prior to the Covid year, which was in the Championship without Parachute Payments, had a turnover of £49m. Demand is probably higher now.

As a comparison, without Parachute Payments in 2022/23 we’d have had around £25-26m. A chunk of that was because of the season we had too.

Parachutes are around £43.5m in year one, then £35.5m in year two, so an £8m drop for Leeds probably won’t be enough to force a massive squad overhaul for this coming season. I’m not sure about the Saints?

Possibly. Although fans in the championship won’t see it it like this

Depends how you define it. Plenty of city clubs with bigger support than us at that level.

I read an article today stating that you can't receive a further parachute payment if you have been relegated and already received the parachute payment in the last 4 years. Not sure exactly how that works in a relegation promotion relegation scenario.

What does that mean? Is that a suggestion by the media or EFL for the future or something?

Currently, if you get promoted and then relegated in that first season you are entitled to two parachute payment seasons.

If you get promoted and stay up for at least one season, but are then relegated you are entitled to 3 parachute payments.

Without trying to be 100% accurate they’re roughly £43.5m, £35.5m and then £17m.

Even in you’re promoted in that first season after relegation you get the first season parachute payment, but you do not receive subsequent payments. Same in year two, that if you’re entitled to three payments (at least two seasons in the Premier League before dropping) you would get seasons one and seasons two payments but would not receive season 3.

Unused parachute payments go back into the central Premier League pot.

We might not be the biggest team in the championship but our recent record proves we are one of the very best. The “experts” said that Leicester City would be a better team than US this season but with 11 defeats i don’t think anymore needs to be said about that, lets just hope we can live up to our own high standards next season.
