Ornstein reporting that Isak is refusing to play for Newcastle ever again, even if he is still there when the window closes.
What a really shoddy way for a player to conduct himself

A bit of a media circus this. I doubt it

It’s embarrassing for him. If I was Newcastle I’d do everything in power to make him sweat. Fines, train without coaches etc. Yes it’s going to cost them a lot of money but the owners are rich enough. Send a message.

In a normal world his conduct would put off potential buyers but this is football.
Liverpool fans who turned on Alexander Arnold for doing exactly what he agreed to do and helping them win things will gladly accept the signing of someone like this.

He’s signed a contract. If he doesn’t honour it they can sue him. World Cup build up year so Sweden won’t be happy.

I can't imagine that will happen given it could cost him his place in the World Cup team through not playing.

He will probably view it as Sweden couldn't leave him out, if it is a priority of his to play in the World Cup

I've no idea whether it is but SSN were reporting last night that it is important to him.
We've had this at Burnley in the past with players, just not high enough profile to get all the media attention.

Said for many years football is ruined by players who are just plain greedy and there agents are the same, no loyalty in football anymore...

His agent has managed to convince him that he’s the next Cristiano Ronaldo.
He’s not.

Spuds are now allegedly sniffing around .I thought Frank would have more sense but Levy likes the idea that Tottenham are still a big club with deep pockets.

Love the idea, but I fear the message won’t be heard tho, because it’s only the absolutely massively rich clubs that can fight back. We couldn’t even think about sending a message.

There’s no way he’s come up with this stance on his own.
Liverpool will absolutely be complicit in this stance to drive the price down.

Which is what they did with Van Dijk

I do get a perverse thrill in seeing Newcastle put in a position they’ve put other clubs in, clubs that don’t have the means to do what Newcastle are doing (and I think they’ll cave eventually).
Petty? Absolutely.

The problem here is Newcastle have behaved as if they are 1 of the really big clubs and right or wrong we all know how much power players have now. as soon as it was clear he wanted off and they weren’t going to sell it was only going 1 way and Newcastle would be the losers.

Are clubs, in theory, allowed to put a player on gardening leave for the duration of a contract?

It might be a few years away but players cutting their contracts short to seek employment elsewhere could become the norm. If it does, it’ll be as big as the Bosman Ruling:

Not necessarily. The owners are oil rich and can afford to park him. Their problem is needing cash to be psr compliant.

Isak is determined to leave Newcastle and sign for Liverpool whilst Wissa is determined to leave Brentford and sign for Newcastle.
What their clubs actually want is immaterial it seems if players are able to force these moves through.

Players have all the power now, the balance needs to be redressed. There should be real consequences for any players refusing to play for their clubs without good reason, such as the Sheffield Wednesday saga. I don't think Newcastle can let him rot in the reserves either. I think if they do that for a year the player is allowed to cancel his contract.

Liverpool fans were fuming at Trent for sitting out his contract and leaving for free.
But are happy to get Isak, who is refusing to play for Newcastle.
And Newcastle fans are unhappy at Isak's behaviour, but are happy to get Wissa, who is doing exactly the same at Brentford.

It is odd when they took over there was a lot of noise about what they are going to do and theee was lots of noise last season about the new stadium etc. this season it has gone very quiet don’t even mention the stadium anymore, not sure they have the finances that we think they do.

It's not the same though is it ? Tarks had a gentlemans agreement with Brentford and they were trying not to honour it.
Also a member of his family (mum I think) was seriously ill at the time and he wanted to get back up North to be near them.

I wouldn't say that. Newcastle haven't backed down by accepting Liverpool's opening offer newcastle from the start I've steadfastly kept their valuation (high or low that's debatable). Newcastle are well within their rights to value their players however they wish & if that's perceived as behaving big that's just the way it is. More clubs should do it instead of letting other clubs ride roughshod.

Never said Newcastle should back down on price, but they need to accept that if a bigger club comes in for a player and the player is interested in the move saying that a player is not for sale is never gonna wash and will 9/10 lead to situations like they have now. A sensible approach similar to how we dealt with Trafford should be used

Yes let’s see, what Newcastle don’t want is a player going through the motions for 6/12 months causing a toxic atmosphere. all football fans are fickle so if he starts scoring assuming he stays that is then the Newcastle fans will get behind him again.

This is where players can't win.
1 - Player who honours his contract while not being in the team is stealing a living.
2 - Player honours his contract and leaves at the end of it is denying his club a transfer fee
3 - Player who wants to move mid-contract, guaranteeing his club a few is told he should honour his contract
