I really liked him a long time ago. It now seems that it's 1) the same as it was twenty years ago and 2) more than a bit forced. He'll doubtless pop up again somewhere soon.

Given comments he's made in the past re: racism I'd suspect that Danny Baker isn't racist. However it was an ill judged tweet and it's not that surprising he's been sacked.

It's interesting to compare this BBC reaction to Alan Sugar's racist tweet last year. He refused to apologise and the BBC did nothing.

**** me backwards, so now you can't imply that a child is a cheeky monkey. Everything is deemed racist nowadays, common sense is so far out of the window with this it's unfathomable.

That is part of the problem with this particular. You say "cheeky monkey". Baker's not saying that was the intent of his tweet. The point (if any) of the picture and the "joke" are so obtuse, so unfathomable and so unfunny that people are, quite reasonably, going, "WTF is that about?". Add that to the febrile atmosphere we have round this sort of issue these days and people make up their own rationale, however likely or unlikely, and there you go...

A stupid comment which makes little sense. He can, of course, deny any racist connotation, that's up to him. It's also up to other folk to decide what level of prick this bloke is.
Either way, if he'd been in any other kind of public service, teaching for instance, his feet wouldn't have touched the ground.
I've no time for the Royals but this is a cowardly, snidey attack and I'm delighted the canute has got the bullet.
The apologists for him on here don't surprise me one bit.

If he genuinely thinks he shouldn’t have been sacked he can take the BBC to tribunal for unfair dismissal can’t he...?

I always found his show on 5Live tedious and boring, he always liked himself too much.

I found him pretty annoying but it's a strange one this. If he's a racist, he's kept it well hidden for 61 years considering he's spent most of his life in the public eye and struggles to keep his mouth shut.

It was ridiculously naive and not even funny but I'm leaning towards him not being an old-school banana throwing racist. Not arsed he's been sacked though.

Not really a fan of him but I don't think anybody believes he's a racist or the joke he put on twitter was intended to be racist. The BBC have to be seen to be active in clamping out any hint of racism within their employees. I suspect 10 years ago he would have kept his job.

Oh, they do. In other forums, I'm seeing it. He is racist or at least made a racist tweet or, that other favourite, he's got that inbuilt racism white people suffer from that they don't even know about because it's so ingrained and you can't argue against it or you're racist too because you're belittling someone's "lived experience".

I've never been keen on the guy, he has far too much to say and seems to find difficulty in
keeping his mouth shut when guests of his show his are speaking.

However I feel he was in the right in the link below, which I remember very well being broadcast.

The question isn’t whether he is a racist, it doesn’t matter that his best friend is black and he doesn’t have a history of this sort of behaviour.

His motivation isn’t an issue either. If someone viewing the picture thinks it’s racist then, to them, it is. If a million people looking at the picture think it’s racist, then it’s even more likely that it is.

Where did he find that picture? What website or app was he looking at and what was the context. What has compounded this error is his quite pathetic excuse that he didn’t realise it was Meghans baby!!

He is a fat cockney w*n**r

If he cannot connect up the dots between the disgusting racial abuse the likes of Sterling Rose and Hudson-Odoi received in Montenegro recently and Megan's mixed racial background then he is bigger f**kwit than I previously imagined.

I suspect that where Baker went wrong is that he forgot that Mrs. Harry is black. He thought she was just another person. And if he had tweeted that picture about any other royal lady, it would have been no problem.

But Meghan isn't "any other royal lady". She is black. First and foremost, she is black. Yes, she has other attributes, including being a woman, a princess, and a mother, but first and foremost she is black, and this needs to be at the forefront of every broadcaster's mind when making jokes about her or any other black person. You can't treat them differently from white people, because that would be racist. You can't treat them the same, eiterh, because that is racist too. Better not to mention them - treat black people as if they didn't exist. It isn't tactful to make jokes.

Obviously Baker didn't deliberately make a "black people look like chimpanzees" "joke". He couldn't be that stupid. He made a "royal babies are inbred" joke, forgetting that one of the royal parents has black heritage.

I've no idea about Baker and his knowledge of Meghan and his intent but ignoring that aspect of the debate your middle paragraph where you lecture us around how everything is too focused on her race and how society has to walk on eggshells around this subject misses a crucial thing

Meghan being black has already been made an issue over her other attributes by the attacks by the gutter press media and on social media in general. Had Meghan not received continuous racial abuse for being a black person daring to marry into out Royal family then it would be a different matter

You actually may have a point and had there been no previous issues with her race and a cartoon like this was posted with just the intent to ridicule the interbreeding of the Royal family then its likely some people would have still jumped on it as a race issue.

The reality is however she has faced abuse and it is not the so called left or "PC Brigade" who have made her race the focal point of her many attributes over the past few years

I think some people are so intent on pushing their "it's PC gone mad" agenda (and their anti-BBC agenda of course) that they fail to see when actually someone has done something stupid and posted something that will be construed as racist by the vast majority of people (resident nutters on here excepted), and has quite rightfully, been punished by their employer.

Luckily the UTC messageboard (where the right wing trolls seem to shout loudest) is not the same as wider society (everyone I've spoken to in my 20 strong office agrees he's been a silly boy and deserves what he has got).

His explanation on twitter is pretty fair, and he's realised what he's done, and he accepts that he's in the wrong.

Some on here could try that occasionally!

How is that a royal babies are inbred joke? Regardless, his explanation was that it was a joke about class. You don’t have to be an inveterate racist to do an act that is considered to be racist. A racist incident is any “that is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other

Given the circumstances, posting a picture of a chimp portraying a mixed race child, many people, including Baker, recognise the offence it has caused and the reason why. Has he forgotten the furore surrounding Kelvin Mackenzie comparing Ross Barkley to a gorilla (he was sacked by the Sun)

He may have been unaware that it was Meghans baby and he may have been unaware of her heritage even so it was a spiteful joke.

Fortunately Andy, I no longer have the need to put myself thru another one of his grinding, sometimes 30 minute, self-aggrandizement fests.

It's usually Talk Radio all the way now. Mike Graham is entertaining and covers more ground in 10 minutes than obrain does all morning. His interest in football is genuine. Unlike the plastic Kidderminster Kid and his faux interest in working class pursuits.

Google "LBC. Londons Biggest Cant" (misspelt for decency!)
