Yeah, was never going to be an incoming was itGrumps wrote:Nixons bit is about Vydra being wanted in Turkey
We have Wells to sit on the benchHedontplayforyou wrote:Can’t see him going unless a replacement is already lined up
It's almost as if the club does its business quietly without leaking its targets to the media.SGr wrote:Yeah, was never going to be an incoming was it
I don’t remember the last proper signing we made that didn’t make it out to the media at least a day or two in advance.Tall Paul wrote:It's almost as if the club does its business quietly without leaking its targets to the media.
Totally agree with you on that. My concern is our track record on the number capable cm in the squad is weird.Tall Paul wrote:It's almost as if the club does its business quietly without leaking its targets to the media.
Aye it’s called manufactured horseshitBlyclaret wrote:Whats this news breaking next week ??
Anyone any clues ??
Yes, unlike most clubs who are linked with players with weeks before they sign them (eg Villa & Heaton, Man Utd & Maguire etc, etc).SGr wrote:I don’t remember the last proper signing we made that didn’t make it out to the media at least a day or two in advance.
That is a fair enough point. Either way though, with 11 days to go I am sadly thinking this much needed midfielder isn’t going to get done.Tall Paul wrote:Yes, unlike most clubs who are linked with players with weeks before they sign them (eg Villa & Heaton, Man Utd & Maguire etc, etc).
The first mention of Pieters on this thread was less than 24 hours before his signing was announced.
When is the last time we haven't made a signing close to, or on transfer deadline day of the summer transfer window?SGr wrote:That is a fair enough point. Either way though, with 11 days to go I am sadly thinking this much needed midfielder isn’t going to get done.
We've got 3 haven't we at present who are fit?summitclaret wrote:Totally agree with you on that. My concern is our track record on the number capable cm in the squad is weird.
Surely we are not going to risk a untried kid again? By God it worked with Dwight but ?Socrates wrote:Oddly I do think a midfielder will come in.
It’s based on little more than blind faith. But it would be absolutely mental beyond even our previous risks we’ve taken in that position, particularly given Dyche’s comments on Defour yesterday.
Either that or we’ve real hope in Josh Benson.
Three isn't enough. I'm sure we'll sign another. Plus Hendrick's best position last season was right mid.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:We've got 3 haven't we at present who are fit?
Cork, Westwood and Hendrick, unless I've missed something.
Defour will be back whenever, so we could do with a youngster as a filler.
Yes but due to JBG, Brady and Lennon seemingly being injury prone, Hendrick has become more of a rs midfielder and took to it well actually. That meant we could not bring on fresh legs in cm for virtually half a season. Totally unacceptable situation and one for which there will be no excuse if we don't bring in a cm player now.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:We've got 3 haven't we at present who are fit?

3 certainly isnt enough, you are 1 injury from.habing no cover or putting a square peg in a round hole.taio wrote:Three isn't enough. I'm sure we'll sign another. Plus Hendrick's best position last season was right mid.
Very true. And if we had such an injury Hendrick isn't effective enough to play CM in a 442 for a sustained period. He's a better option on the right hand side when JBG isn't the right choice for the opposition. It's essential we bring in a CM.MACCA wrote:3 certainly isnt enough, you are 1 injury from.habing no cover or putting a square peg in a round hole.
The cover player is also our Jack of all trades for other roles too, so can't really expect him to available for CM all the time either.
I think we will get in a couple more, and I'm almost certain 1 will be a central midfielder.
Vydra can play on the flank, he's done it before.taio wrote:Three isn't enough. I'm sure we'll sign another. Plus Hendrick's best position last season was right mid.
GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:Vydra can play on the flank, he's done it before.
Jay can also do that, he did that at Saints, left side of the attacking 3.
I agree it isn't enough, hence why I said we need a filler, young lad maybe.taio wrote:No signs that Vydra will play that role. But in any case it doesn't alter the fact that 3 CMs isn't enough.
We need more than a 'filler' in that crucial position and I'm sure we'll bring someone in.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:I agree it isn't enough, hence why I said we need a filler, young lad maybe.
Just saying that a couple of our players can go on the flanks if needed when the main wingers pick up injuries it doesn't have to be Hendrick.
We need someone who is better than Cork and Hendrick in central midfield. Cork would be a decent option from the bench, on past subs appearances in the Europa league he came on to influence the game and scored goals.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:I agree it isn't enough, hence why I said we need a filler, young lad maybe.

For me, we can't even take Defour as a player. He'll never last long even if/when he does come back.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:We've got 3 haven't we at present who are fit?

Bucketloads like the 27 in the second half of last season......less than 1.5 per game. We are in such a bad way...Quickenthetempo wrote:We need someone who is better than Cork and Hendrick in central midfield. If we don't get a physical athlete in there who can protect the defence we will concede bucket loads again.
More likely that not that Defour won’t ever be back for us.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:We've got 3 haven't we at present who are fit?

As I asked someone else the other day, what if one gets an injury?Hibsclaret wrote:Bucketloads like the 27 in the second half of last season......less than 1.5 per game. We are in such a bad way...
Doom, gloom, doom, gloom.
Cork and Hendrick were absolutely fine in the 2nd half of last season and so no reason they shouldn’t carry on in the same way...

Why are you only using the 2nd half of the season stats? Ok I know the answer, it suits your opinion better. But if you want to use the latest form guide of 10 or so games it goes back up to 1.8 per game.Hibsclaret wrote:Bucketloads like the 27 in the second half of last season......less than 1.5 per game. lolksrclaret wrote:Defour can't be classed as one of the midfielders because he'll never play. Cork isn't really up to the standard anymore, sadly. Hendrick is preferred in one of the wide midfield slots or in front of two others. Benson is a young lad and we need to get him out on loan.
To my mind, that leaves us with Westwood as the only midfielder I would be wholly confident of starting with, who had an outstanding second half of the season. We need one more midfielder. Every other position is sorted.
What a poor do if we can't manage to sign just one midfielder in the next two weeks.
I do love our chats, Paul. Keep it clean in future though.Tall Paul wrote:lol

Nobody played well first half of last season. For Dyche's game plans to work we need more clean sheets and less goals conceded. Or bring in a goal scoring midfielder and try and get 10 more.
I thought so. He's got form for that, has Tall Paul.FactualFrank wrote:He was sharing lots of love with you.

There's something about transfer rumours that get's him all saucy
I like Cork but he seems to get out muscled too many times these days.Hibsclaret wrote:Nobody played well first half of last season. The whole team wasn’t good enough with mitigating circumstances that I’m sure you’ll understand...
Take whatever stats you want this is Burnley in the premier league and it is hard to attract much better than Cork where there are no injury doubts (ala Defour). Cork has more than proved he is good enough.
That's because Peters himself only knew 48hrs before, when the first contact was made, not much time for it to be leaked out.Tall Paul wrote:Yes, unlike most clubs who are linked with players with weeks before they sign them (eg Villa & Heaton, Man Utd & Maguire etc, etc).
