Re: General Election Is On
I appreciate your post Ringo , this election has once again demonstrated , like the referendum, what democracy looks like .
The icing on the cake is Julie Cooper being quite rightly kicked out of Burnley.
I knew for certain that from the moment she abstained on the 2nd referendum parliamentary vote that she was no good for the constituents of Burnley.

Re: General Election Is On
BP 2nd in Barnsley Central just 3,500 votes behind Labour,close but no cigar.
Labour doing better in remain voting areas,but you can't win an election with 200 seats.

Re: General Election Is On
Cheers buddy!
D'yu know what what was clear to see today. On the thread where you said how you were going to vote and the confidence in which you thought itd go. There were posters who just popped in to contribute. Never seen them post on a political thread before but they were just nailing their respective colours, so to speak.
It was really noticeable that many on the left were only too keen to call anybody who said "conservative" were slagged off and labelled "gullible " "ignorant" etc etc. Posters even remarked on it being noticable that tories had a pop at labour policies . Where as labour voters just slagged off Tory voters themselves!
You and I have become used to it, but when newbies to politics get it, they're understandably took aback.

Unfortunately, that is a feature of the left; eveyone is wrong apart from those that agree with them. Hopefully, this will show them the error of their ways. Labour’s heartlands are showing them that leaving Europe is more important than free broadband.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 2:58 amCheers buddy!

Everyone is not only wrong, but racist, sexist, racist, xenophobic, racist, transphobic and racist. The demonisation of their opponents is something we're all too familiar with over in the US. The parallels with the 2016 election here are uncanny.BennyD wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 3:02 amUnfortunately, that is a feature of the left; eveyone is wrong apart from those that agree with them. Apologies pal! You were, indeed, one of those that shone a light on the intolerance of the, so called, "liberal" and "inclusive" left.
I've said it many many a times before, often ridiculed by those it was aimed fairly and squarely at, for saying it.
THE LEFT - THEY CLAIM TO "LOVE" DIVERSITY
THEY HATE DIVERSITY OF OPINION

Boris re-elected. Happy days.
Re: General Election Is On
Yeah, yeah Boris will run scared at choose a different seat because if he doesn't he could well lose his seat. No he won't.
Re: General Election Is On
Lord Bucketface giving the finger to to Count Binface after beating him was one of the highlights of the election (Johnson lying through his teeth in his acceptance speech less so but that's what we've voted for).

Re: General Election Is On
How can Boris say he's going to unite the country when the Tory vote has completely collapsed in Scotland?
Re: General Election Is On
Jo Swinson loses her seat. She got it wrong. Imagine standing on a commitment to simply revoke article 50.

Just reported on Guardian website
====================================
An altercation broke out while John McDonnell was making his acceptance speech, Sky News have reported. People in the audience started shouting “terrorist” and “liar”, prior to the incident. As police dealt with it, McDonnell went on to say:
It is quite clear that there are fears also now for our democracy and the rise of the extreme right, but I say now we will organise to ensure this type of democracy will reign, that the democratic wishes of our people will be respected, and this type of extreme rightwing violence will not be tolerated within our society.
==================================================
What a hypocrite. He's had no compunction re the momentum mad dogs heckling/disrupting/throwing milk shakes throughout the past few months.

He can’t speak for the Jocks; it’s 3.46am and they’re all p!ssed. If they vote for independence, all the money owners will migrate south and they won’t have a pot to p!ss in. Also, the Eu won’t allow them in because they haven’t got a pot to p!ss in but Sturgeon will have her legacy. Still, she’ll be Ok because she’ll move south too to make financial use of her contacts gained while she was in office. That’s politics.
Re: General Election Is On
Swinson gone. Ultimately she ran a pretty poor campaign and deserved to lose the leadership. Kudos for not leaping to a safe seat, I suspect she'll be back somewhat wiser in the future. The Lib Dems are screwed whilst First Past the Post is in place though.

Re: General Election Is On
I must admit I never thought I'd see in my lifetime the Tories win the Burnley seat. This speaks volumes about the disaster of Corbyn and McDonnell and the totally useless Julie Cooper locally. It exemplifies what people think about their type of politics. Bye.

Re: General Election Is On
There are a lot of Corbynistas in denial but Caroline Flint (having lost Don Valley to Tories) says, more realistically:
======================
But shed no tears on my behalf. Defeat is in some ways a blessed relief. A respite from a miserable period in politics. But do spare a thought for those many people who invested their hopes in having a Labour party that would lead our country, help them with their plight, make life just a little bit easier and safeguard those aspects of life they hold most dear. To those people I offer my apologies for my party did not live up to your expectations.
To those who have brought us to this point I remind them that Labour cannot simply be a party of big cities and university towns, nor just a party of the young or a party of devoted Remainers. We must be a party of Labour. A party close to working class people because what is the point of the Labour party if we don’t respect and represent those voices, people we haven’t listened to or respected enough.

Perfectly summed up by Caroline Flint:
It is self evident in Doncaster and across the country that many long-standing Labour voters rejected our candidate for prime minister and the politics that surround him

Re: General Election Is On
It's just a shame that the Tories haven't won due to them being brilliant, but because their competition are in the main a bunch of clowns. IMO it was always going to be bad news regardless of the result.
Re: General Election Is On
Well, it's now time for Johnson to put his money where his mouth is.
Will he invest big money in the North like Crosspool believes or will he stick with his political history of promising everything and delivering nothing? Time will tell, although as Crosspool says, if he doesn't deliver then those who voted for him can't complain.
I'll put a tenner on that in five years time the trains in Burnley will be as bad as they are now.

You’ll never be a politician. Why put yourself in the firing line if you can’t appease everyone all of the time? You only go into these things if you need to make gains, not lose them. The voting public obviously doesn’t give a sh!t, going by the result. Corbyn and Swinson were there and it turned out well for them? You don't like ambition? You don't like high hopes? He isn't saying he's going to unite the country like he might say he's going to have a cup of tea. It's an aspiration, not a decision.
What's he supposed to say? "Scotland didn't vote for me, so screw them?" (Tempting, I know!)
