Don't hold back, Woodley.......tell us what you really think!
I think a lot will depend on the nature of any potential ins and outs. An experienced attacking midfielder like Brownhill would work well in a 4-4-1-1, which would allow us to play Wood up front on his own. We could also play Brownhill out on the right, a position that he has done very well in before. That would allow us to give Hendrick more game time in the centre and we could swap him with Brownhill / JBG when we want to focus on the qualities he adds to our play.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 3:38 pmI see what you’re saying but I think if Wood or Rodriguez got injured or suspended Dyche would undoubtedly change to a 4-5-1 as opposed to starting either Vydra or Wells. I think the time has more than come to get them off the wage bill - and I never expected us to recoup good money but looks like we will.
Er we beat them 2-0 and Jones committed an unnecessary foul which led to our first goal.He is a big lump of uselessnessarise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 5:11 pmI happen to think that Phil Jones would be a good player in a team like ours. He’s not good enough for Man United but he’d be fine in our set up.
Too much reliance on a championship player who has never played at this level in that for my liking.Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 5:28 pmI think a lot will depend on the nature of any potential ins and outs. More game time for Hendrick in the centre of the pitch could work well for us, because he is probably the closest we have to an energetic box to box midfielder at the moment.
The fact that we haven't heard anything regarding offers for Hendrick in this window leads me to suspect that he will be signing a new contract. If we don't have any positive indicators to suggest that, and we are looking at losing him on a free transfer in the Summer, that would represent a very costly mistake.
The mention of Vydra and Russia was interesting, because a few of the transfer windows in that part of the world don't shut until the end of February. If everything went okay with Barnes, and it was a minor surgery, he could be back in the team by the end of February.
That would allow us to move Vydra on before the Summer, but it won't help us with any immediate incomings. It might be an option, but if it is purely about putting cash into our bank account that we can't spend until the Summer I would rather keep hold of Vydra. Cash in the bank, without an incoming player attached to the deal in some way, would only make life easier for the recruitment team at the expense of our on the pitch options.
He's absolute dog sh*t. In ANY team!arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 5:11 pmI happen to think that Phil Jones would be a good player in a team like ours. He’s not good enough for Man United but he’d be fine in our set up.
Face facts, he along with Brady, Lennon, Vydra and a few more, are simply not good enough as squad players. Time for a clear out when we get to the summer and are still in the Premier league.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:00 pmFor all who haven’t picked up on the theme. Kevin Long has replaced Jeff Hendrick as the new whipping boy.
Long has been with us through 4 managers and aside from loans none of them have tried to sell him. Nobody should be rated on Saturdays performance or we’d be looking for 11 new men.
Nods, new players will give us new options and we don't have to field the 4-4-2.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 5:47 pmWel it’s just a scenario. He’s getting th repoint across that you don’t need 4 strikers because we can go 451, or move players about, with Hendrick, Gudmundsson and Barnes all capable of coming into the team and playing different positions around the midfield/attack.
So you’d be happy for him to play week in week out ahead of Gibson should either Tarks or Mee get injured. If that happened we’re down. Simply not good enough at this level and only with us for so long because he’s cheap and avoids us bringing anybody else in.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:35 pmLong has been with us through 4 managers and aside from loans none of them have tried to sell him. Depends if you think replacing Drinkwater with Wells makes us weaker or stronger?Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:46 pmWhat’s the betting the squad is weaker than currently come the close of the window.
I watch all levels of football and have done for over 40 years; i’ve even coached junior teams and played at a good level. you asked a question, i answered it. I see you don’t agree, but at least respect it otherwise you show yourself up.
Another one putting words in my mouth.ralphc wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:44 pmSo you’d be happy for him to play week in week out ahead of Gibson should either Tarks or Mee get injured. Confirmation from their manager that they are actively looking for a striker at least.ClaretAL wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 8:01 pmWhite flag waving of the clubs finest assets? or shop windowing them because the club needs funds? or just a realist? Either way looks good from our point of view

If we are facing facts, then we should face the fact that the squad is threadbare. Losing all those players, and being unable to attract replacements, would leave us in deep ****. Wether its now or summer we need to improve the squad in small steps, there isnt an alternative.
You’re a glass half full kinda guy, aren’t you mate?Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:46 pmWhat’s the betting the squad is weaker than currently come the close of the window.
Yep. With a name like that, I didn’t even need to watch 3 minutes of YouTube to decide we should buy him. Sign him up.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 9:15 pmhas there been some mention of us and ronaldo vieira ?
Basically this.williamjblazkowicz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 9:44 pmThere's an awful lot of revisionism going on here re Kevin Long. He has, for the most part, been a fine backup central defender for Burnley FC and has generally performed admirably when called upon. He didn't have the best of games versus Norwich but he's only human -- none of our players covered themselves in glory.
B@llocks - I thought we were being linked with Patrick VieiraWile E Coyote wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 9:15 pmhas there been some mention of us and ronaldo vieira ?
Not really. Long has started a handful of Premier League games in his 10 years here- less than 50 appearances in all competitions. He’s never even played Championship football regularly.williamjblazkowicz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 9:44 pmThere's an awful lot of revisionism going on here re Kevin Long. 14 games to go, and 7 points above drop zone is not "pretty much safe"KRBFC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 10:44 pmI don’t particularly care about incomings right now I’d rather see outgoings, we are pretty much safe for another year and require major squad surgery in the summer so why not start that process now.
Brady Lennon Lowton Gibson Hart Vydra Wells out with fresh young hungry first team qualify incomings, if the right players aren’t available now I’d rather we wait until the summer.
If we can move out Wells Hart Vydra and Gibson in this window and replace with 1 loan striker to tide us over until the summer, I’d consider that a success. We absolutely don’t need 5 strikers eating away at the wage budget and we certainly don’t need 4 goalkeepers. It’s a waste of resources which could be used elsewhere to legitimately strengthen the actual starting 11.
Yes I think clearing the deadwood to allow for a makeover in the summer is smart, threadbare squad? We have 4 senior goalkeepers, 5 strikers and 5 central defenders. We are overstocked and lacking qualities, players need to leave and get off the wage bill to make room for new additions.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 11:05 pm'we are pretty much safe for another year'
Really? And you think thinning out an already threadbare squad is the way forward?
Might as well do. It’s not like there’s any signings!creepingdeath wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 7:24 pm... and the transfer thread returns to moaning and bickering
I agree been a good back up in the shadows but you also have to ask yourself why not go and have a career in the lower leagues playing week in week out ? He basically has not had a career.Braindead wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 10:07 pmBasically this.
Kevin Long has been a great servant to this club and been extremely unfortunate to have the likes of Duff, Shackell, Keane, Mee, Tarkowski and our joint record signing Ben Gibson ahead of him in the pecking order during his near ten year stretch at our club.
Also remember he tore his ACL on his Premier league debut and has, lets be honest, been a pretty decent defender undeserving of some of the horseshit on here.
Salary. Nobody would pay him what he gets from us. You’ll probably turn that around and say “well he can’t be worth it” but he is. These guys don’t get £30 slipped into their boots after a game. It’s a new world.
