Re: Villa losses in winning promotion
these results were announced last Friday - only visible at Companies House today
posted this on the Magic Money Tree thread earlier today where you will also see Leicester and Cardiff's financial results from last season
How Aston Villa have made a three year £179m loss be a £17m loss for FFP - Mel would be so proud
https://twitter.com/KieranMaguire/statu ... 0466178048
This is the first time I have ever seen Academy costs highlighted in this way - look at the size of them
a bit more detail on @KieranMaguires perspective in this article which paints a very rosy picture
https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/ ... h-17860469
so there you have it a club that has been"financially doped" or "rescued" (depending on your perspective) over the last few years - will the investment pay off or will this be another club trained to live beyond it's means that can look forward to another financial collapse when the owners have had enough

Re: Villa losses in winning promotion
Villa fans blame Burnley for their 71 year League title wait between 1909/10 and 1980/81 as we decided to adopt their colours - we of course won it twice in that period - in return we let them have Tony Morley and they got a European Cup to compensate

Re: Villa losses in winning promotion
Wasn't it only a couple of years ago that Burnley got a discount on the final payment for Ashley Westwood because Villa were skint and they had to avoid a winding up order from the HMRC and needed the cash?
How does FFP work? Am I missing something?

So, I suspect Tom Heaton's not exactly crossing his fingers when he approaches a Cashpoint machine, then !

Re: Villa losses in winning promotion
New owners since then that keep churning the debt accrued into share capital, bought the ground and conveniently benefitted from HS2 compensation - I still think their Academy costs look too high but they seem to be well within FFP

Re: Villa losses in winning promotion
for now - still heading down the troubled route of living off more than they earn - the aforementioned Bolton and our friends down the road being the best examples of where this can leadcricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 5:08 pmFair play. They gambled and it worked.

I imagine those academy costs are split out to minimise any FFP penalty.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 4:03 pmthese results were announced last Friday - only visible at Companies House today
