Suggest you read the BBC report. It is mainly about our keeper and the game rather than NI and the game.Long Time Lurker wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 11:27 pmThat was me. I didn't watch the match, but I'm very happy to hear that he played well.

Gordaleman, you come across as rather patronising and arrogant (you may not have intended too but you do) Your philosophy of, I'm 72 I have more understanding due to my age and experience is unfortunately, rubbish. As a 28 year old fan, I want my club to be the best it can be. Many will argue we are there, however many thought we were there when we stopped in the championship, many thought we were there when we got promoted to the prem, many thought we were there when we stopped up, many thought we were there when we achieved a European spot. Without forward thinkers and people looking to improve, we will start to slide backwards. I find it hard to believe any fans would want that. In an earlier post you said the club had improved every year for the past 10 years, yet your not happy when people want us to continue that improvement?Gordaleman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 5:09 pmIt's obvious that you disagree with me but you sound like a 12 year old who has no experience of life. (Although you're probably a little older.) Unfortunately 'Experience' can't be taught, so I'll leave it at that. I'm sure that as you get older you will begin to understand.

Not surprising as he's had a few months being coached by Mercer. That man certainly has the magic touch. Hopefully BPF will follow Heaton and Pope and turn out to be an inspired signing.

The problem with fans like you (And I'm not being patronising.) is that you have only seen Burnley improve. When you have seen them falling down through the leagues, as I have, and despaired of them even surviving in the Football League, then you might have a different view.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 10:19 amGordaleman, you come across as rather patronising and arrogant (you may not have intended too but you do) Your philosophy of, I'm 72 I have more understanding due to my age and experience is unfortunately, rubbish. Remember, football didn't start with the EPL, and Burnley at one time were the best team in the land. Things move in cycles and at the moment we are on the up again. Throwing that away by taking unneccessary risks is not what I want to see from BFC. We did that under John Bond, and it nearly cost us dear. (Again, you won't remember that.)
Of course I want us to improve. I've been supporting Burnley since I was four, so why wouldn't I? You talk about 'Forward thinkers' and that's exactly what we have with the current board, and that's why we're improving year on year. They can see the potential risks of getting things wrong, and as fans themselves, they don't want that. The modern generation think that success has to be ' Instant', that's why those awful reality TV shows are so popular with the young. Believe me, there's plenty of time to improve, without rushing things and taking risks.

Sheffield United are close to signing West Brom's Oliver Burke and Derby duo Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe. Burke swap deal will include Callum Robinson returning to #wba. #dcfc #sufc https://t.co/Xyno7borAO
John Percy is normally spot on.
Only posted as Burnley have been heavily linked with Bogle at Derby for a number of years.

He never really looked good enough for the prem in the limited appearances I have seen him.
But he could have improved as he is still only a young lad.

Given what Extinction Rebellion are up to, can we be sure there will be any papers tomorrow?

Nothing about Northern Ireland's game last night in The Times on-line this morning. Maybe we will read about Bailey Peacock-Farrell some other time.

A good post Gordaleman. I agree with some of the things you say. You are right, as a fan I have seen us move forwards on and off the pitch. I have never seen the "dark days" and nor do I ever want to but if I had, it wouldn't change my view, if anything it would give me more hunger to not go back there. I will not speak for your generation as you have done for mine but I don't think anyone is talking about taking "unnecessary risks". We have an ageing squad and some key players which teams will rightfully be looking at. We have a big transfer window ahead of us in terms of outgoings and incomings and some fans want it right. I have no problem with this clamour. If it was let's pay 40m and get X I would agree with you.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 11:15 amThe problem with fans like you (And I'm not being patronising.) is that you have only seen Burnley improve. There is an element of "some" of the modern population wanting instant success. I don't fit in that category and your posts would read better (or less patronising) if you didn't make statements to this effect. Not all young fans want to spend 40m on a new player. There is still time in this window for us to "improve". I will happily wait untill the end of the window before I cast judgement.
I still see this window as vital to our premier league status. While we haven't had "bad transfer" windows, the windows we have had have resulted in a lot of pressure to get this one to "good". The squad is ageing, if our best players (which coincidentally are our younger players) leave, we could go the way of Stoke city with an ageing squad and not much in terms of a plan B tactically. Those "dark days" will be looking closer again.
Basically go with the flow, is not the right option and panic and rush is equally not the right option. Some of us sit in the middle.
What I really can't stand is "I saw us at this time so my football knowledge is better than yours" and "the modern generation think..." Do you know them all?

As I said, I wasn't being patronising, but ask yourself this. "Will I know more about football and the world in general, when I'm older?" The answer should of course be "Yes." Everybody learns new things every day of their lives and that's what I mean about 'Experience'. It can't be taught, only lived.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:28 pmA good post Gordaleman. When I was your age, I was in the army and thought I knew most things. Believe me, I didn't. Going to school is not the end of education, it's just a groundwork for life. You start learning the real things about life AFTER you leave school and it goes on until you die.
Such a lot of people these days are in a hurry, in every aspect of their lives. I'm not picking on individuals, but those people should learn to chill a bit and just let things happen. No matter what is said on these boards, Burnley's 'Slowly, slowly catchie monkey' approach to success won't change, and I'm 100% behind them.

Cant believe this debate is still going on , we all have different opinions and people should respect those opinions whether they think they are wrong or right. I dont bother responding after a bit because I cant do with going over the same ground. I get that your in your 70's and you been watching a lot longer than most, but read some of your posts back...your so afraid of going back to 1987 and Orient, its stopping you seeing what we have at our fingertips...I wish you well Sir, but I cant agree with your" if it ain't broke dont fix it" outlook...that is a recipe for disaster.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:40 pmAs I said, I wasn't being patronising, but ask yourself this. No problems with people saying they have more experience. It's when people use the "all the modern generation ect". Do I think age means people know more about football? Not at all. Do you know more than Dyche?Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:40 pmAs I said, I wasn't being patronising, but ask yourself this. Do I know more than Sean about football? Probably not in a general sense and certainly not on a playing or coaching level. Do I know more than Sean about Burnley's history and financial struggles over the last 50 years? Probably.
Anyway, we will have to agree to disagree.

For someone who's agreeing to disagree you've just agreed you know less about football than someone younger than you.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 3:05 pmDo I know more than Sean about football? I have. You know more about Burnley. Unfortunately there are lot of other teams out there. You know less about football.
If you genuinely think you know more about football than Dyche then I mis read your earlier comments when I thought you were a sane individual

I also hope you apply for the vacancy when Sean leaves. If that's in another few years there won't be a candidate to stand up to you/your age.
