Yes, I agree jedi, it would be a surprise to me as well. I was more surprised we got a mention with anything transfer based to be honest.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Most likely getting mixed up with Jonjoe Kenny?

More likely Talksport have confused Shelvey with Kenny.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 8:53 amWould imagine his wages are astronomical and I think he played in their win at Everton yesterday. Would be a surprising one and I’m not certain where he’d play either as I’ve always seen him as a centre mid who needs to play in a three to be effective.

Very strange view mate, I doubt anyone I know would turn on them, and almost everyone I know is a Burnley fan.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 2:19 pmTrue But i do think a large majority will turn on them pretty quickly if nothing is done this window. Just have a look at the comments section of some his latest posts. Fans are already turning.

I get the impression some are desperate for signings just to say we’ve made some... realistically it’s unlikely we will go down this year, if the right players aren’t available at the right prices then why sign players for the sake of it? Just to please a few young excited fans.

Liverpool currently have their four centre halves out injured-it just emphasises whats possible. What makes us think our central two defenders can survive 17 more PL games uninjured and thats before any potential cup run. An injury or absence of our central two will be a disaster

We do need a Right Winger and CB as we saw how well we did with the CB cover at the start of the season. We do need a good young RB but this could wait until Summer. Things can go stale very quickly if we rest on out laurels on the back of 2 good results.

Doubt, we'll get collins. Price seems to be too high. Think Kenny is most likely. I wonder whether Bardsley would be a better bet than long at cb.

Klopp banged about looking for a £80m CH and now there is a link to Issa Diope at West Ham. Some £80m CH NOT. Is he having a laugh ?

Sounds like clubs aren’t willing to sell unless we pay stupid money. Wonder if West Ham fans were as annoyed when their board didn’t pay for Tarky? I still think we’ll get Kenny.

Inexcusable to not sign anyone given the predicament we'll find ourselves in the summer when Tarks leaves.
The right hand side of our team needs massive improvement, its championship level

Don’t dispute we desperately need a RIGHT FOOTED right winger.

Looking at the 2nd goal today Tarkowski as been told he isn't going anywhere
Tarks was poor against Villa and same again today, he looks throughly pished off that he hasn't got his move out of the club

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
The market in the summer could well be even tougher than it is now given the amount of clubs wanting to do business.
Completion for players will be greater that's for sure and we know we always come last where that's concerned.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Not if season ticket prices are frozen AGAIN
It can still be a very successful window, 4 new contract extensions, and if we can get the season ticket details out early Feb, it will have been a good window all things considered.

Obviously the "right players" weren't available at the "right prices" last summer and it seems the situation in January hasn't changed.

Not sure what you were watching. He will leave in the summer and you saying he looks naffed off is ridiculous.

It must be so dis-heartening for our defenders to see wave, after wave of attack, which happened today after 15 minutes, and our forwards and midfielders unable to retain possession
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Historically, a good window for Burnley is to retain our star players. That appears to be the case, so far, unless last min in/out for Vydra/Barnes/Tarkowski.
I say Barnes only owing to a sudden absence, for a 'toe injury'.

Maybe it’s time to do something we historically haven’t been great at and use the loan market to try and strengthen the side with decent players - not just squad cover.

There is one thing you are right about, January is always a daft window. More daft are the clubs like ourselves who end up needing to do business in it. Right winger required as an absolute bare minimum.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 9:16 amI get the impression some are desperate for signings just to say we’ve made some... realistically it’s unlikely we will go down this year, if the right players aren’t available at the right prices then why sign players for the sake of it? Do you want us to be the next Blackpool, Bolton or even worse Bury?
I'm just glad we saved the 55m cash reserves for a rainy day, because if we hadnt the old board who have done a tremendous job wouldn't have got to share it.
We are where we are today because of them, and I'd rather be here than in league 2.
Who cares if they were fattening the goose and indirectly getting to split that 55m, they froze season tickets and made us all able to afford watching the best years in half a century

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
January is more difficult for clubs who haven't taken advantage of a summer transfer window prior to it. In that world you need to use January to strengthen and put yourself at the risk of incurring the extra costs. We are our own worst enemy!

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Well it was 170m roughly, but if there wasnt the 55m in the clubs cash reserves, they would have only got 115m if that was 0.
So got them an extra 55m to share out.
Some say they indirectly took it from the club, and the reason we spent nowt for 2 windows so it built up their profits.
But I doubt it, as they are fans who never took a penny out of the club ( other than the free corporate stuff on matchday obviously)

How are the club meant to plan financially for that and put pen to paper on deals?
Look around, near silence from most clubs.
New owners or not, be realistic.
