Don't normally have a chance to do these these days, but not least because I reckon a bit of perspective is needed, here they are for yesterday.

Pope - 7 - Solid enough on the relatively few occasions he was required
Lowton - 7 - Steady enough defensively, and one of the few players to find a telling ball.
Taylor - 6 - A couple of decent crosses but he was also a little bit untidy in possession, and still looks to me to be playing within himself owing to injury. Suspect he's been pressed into action two games earlier than Dyche would have wanted.
Tarkowski - 7 - Gave the ball away a couple of times trying to make things happen, but defended well (particularly in clearing a certain goal off the line) and tried to get us playing.
Mee - 6 - Dived in a couple of times uncharacteristically, but generally OK.
Westwood - 4 - One of his poorest games in a Burnley shirt, albeit clearly not helped by conditions under foot or in the air.
Cork - 5 - One of his least tidy games to Burnley, with the number of games he's played since coming back into the team perhaps catching up with him, and another to struggle to master the conditions.
McNeil - 6 - Well shackled but tried to get us playing, and perhaps Dyche could have tweaked things in the second half to give him a freer role with the clearly discomforted Rodriguez filling in on the left. It was notable that he had more effect in the first half when we got him central more often.
Brownhill - 6 - Sharp enough on the right hand side to suggest he can contribute in that role, but it was apparent that he's never going to be an especially creative influence from that role and the absence of Brady and JBG was exposed today.
Rodriguez - 5 - Should have done better with the chance of the first half after 10 minutes when the minimum requirement was to steer a header on target, but kudos to him for sticking at it for an hour after he clearly picked up a knock, even if that knock obviously hampered his effectiveness.
Vydra - 4 - In the first half hour there were some spaces for him to exploit when WBA pushed on and he looked bright, but as West Brom sat deep and narrow there was less space and he wasn't able to operate effectively in the tight spaces. Completely possible that he too was managing an injury through the game given he wasn't fit enough for the bench less than 72 hours earlier.

Mumbongo - not on long enough and clearly very, very raw, but he was worth a try and he got in behind them a couple of times.

Right - yes, this was a grim, frustrating watch and credit to the players for the way that they've owned it rather than hiding behind extenuating circumstances. Because extenuating circumstances there undoubtedly were. Firstly, despite the shouts of those who wanted the same players to be flogged further 10 days ago in the cup (and it's no accident that one of those who did play the cup game and all the league games, McNeil, looked particularly weary yesterday), the fact is that the squad is physically knackered. It's that fatigue which is leading to the muscle injuries we've been getting recently, and it'd be no surprise to discover that there were several players who played in less than peak physical condition - Taylor, Vydra and after 20 minutes Rodriguez being the most obvious candidates, but we don't know what knocks other players are carrying. This has been an incredibly punishing spell of games and we're crying out for the spare week West Brom had before this game and which we now have before Spurs. And this is before we take into account the mental pressures that the run of games has had. These lads will barely have had a day off in a month to recharge and get some perspective. We all need that, particularly in these difficult times.

Secondly, those same injuries meant a disjoined team. If you keep swapping players for injury, that's inevitable eventually. On the day, we lacked a focal point up front, and were without a second craftsman in midfield. Brownhill did well on the right and is a viable option there, but it was a new role for him in a team that bore lots of other changes, and after the red card the onus was on us to open WBA up - we've invariably suffered in games like that, but in this game we really needed someone else to take the creative burden off McNeil. If you keep sw

Finally, the weather was atrocious and made switching any ball in the air hard. West Brom exploited that by playing really really narrow and challenging us to do it. It's not our strong suit at the best of times but the weather made it nearly impossible today. Coupled with a pitch which showed all the scars of 5 games in 17 days (it looked as uneven as I've seen it since it was last relaid) and therefore forced players to take a touch and slow the game down to move the ball on the deck, it made getting round a low block tricky for the best of teams, and we've never been the best at that. It was no accident that whilst the game was 0-0, both teams were trading chances generated by pinching the ball off their opponents. As West Brom withdrew it was no surprise that they were able to prey upon us a bit for this.

None of these extenuating circumstances entirely justify the performance. It was shabby, error-strewn and as the players and Dyche acknowledged, well short of what they and we should expect. The game as a whole was ugly and devoid of action apart from those two West Brom counter-attacks. But anyone who seeks to comment on the performance without giving due regard for all of those factors isn't being fair on the team. There was no lack of desire, but their legs weren't able to do what their mind was willing them to do. When all is said and done, 5 points from 3 games this week and 6 from 4 over the last fortnight is a solid return. It could have been better but it could certainly have been worse given all the injuries and what's been asked of the remaining players. Even after the performance yesterday they deserved a beer last night and 2 or 3 days off to recharge physically and mentally before beginning to think about the Spurs game.

This season was always going to be a hard ask. We're 6 points clear of the relegation zone with 13 games to play, and had VAR done its job twice yesterday (and the penalty taker then theirs) we'd be 10 points clear and regarding ourselves as virtually safe. So yes, yesterday was disappointing and frustrating, but no we shouldn't overreact to a bad day at the office.
