You do know newspapers make quotes up? I know this because a paper once quoted a family member in a story but she never spoke to any reporters.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
There is only one verifiable part of the article: AB was arrested for drink driving. The rest, attributed to "a source" could be guessed, even by a Sun "journalist":
"Four hour booze up" - yep, that's how long a coach journey to Burnley would take.
"Dyche is furious" - yep, fair chance he's not happy (not furious enough to drop him though).
Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
potentially, of course my point was only valid if there was an actual source (snake in the grass), if there is no source, there is no problem.

I would imagine any snippets will have been passed on by one of Cheshire Constabulary's finest and the rest of the story er, embellished by the journalist.

Slightly off topic , and clearly unacceptable behaviour by Barnes .
Are you saying that anyone who has a drink and drives is showing very poor judgement?

Thought the Sun would have come up with the headline ASHLEY BARNES HITS THE BAR
Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
I should bloody well hope he thinks "anyone who has a drink and drives is showing very poor judgement" because its a very very idiotic and stupid thing to do.

Thanks Zlatan , i thought that’s what you meant but wanted to check I had got it right before replying .
I don’t deny you your right to live your life with such strict moral principles, some would call it puritanical beliefs.
Barnes was clearly irresponsible and I think it’s important to make the distinction here between his reckless behaviour and what others who might have a pint then drive do.

Of course it is ... alcohol and driving is stupid regardless of the amount.
It is irresponsible and dangerous.

Come on , if it was as irresponsible and dangerous as you say , the law would do something about it.
I get that’s your own personal view on the matter and that’s fine.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
A single pint can affect people in different ways.
I know people who are 'wasted' after a half pint.
Also if someone hasn't eaten, compared to someone who has then a single pint will have different responses to a pint.
Same if they're on medication.
Yes the law makes an allowance for x amount of units, but if Barnes has failed x2 breathalysers he's clearly unfit to drive and is a risk to himself and others.

There will always be exceptions and if someone is wasted after half a pint it doesn’t mean they are going to get behind the wheel of a car does it ?

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Surely anybody drinking a pint of ordinary strength beer etc wouldn't fail a breath or blood test. If the drinker's not used to it, I can imagine them feeling squiffy and they, therefore, would be daft to drive but for the rest of us who would not be so badly affected , there is actually no problem whatsoever with having drinks below the legal limit.

I am disappointed this has happened. I’m also relieved nobody was hurt.
However let (s) he who is without sin cast the first stone.
This incident should not mean he is to be released by the club, I can almost feel the lack of compassion for the player by some. He is a human being should be rightly ticked off but not banished.

It's not stupid to have drinks below the legal limit and drive.
Some folks think that any drinking or driving is unacceptable, the law here says differently.
We decide.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Yes it is. Utterly moronic.
Have a pint, drive home, hit someone and kill them. Can you 100% guarantee that you would still have done it without the pint? I couldn’t, and personally I’d struggle to live with myself even after “passing” a breath test. My point is you will never know whether you would’ve reacted quicker or made a different decision to change the outcome.
It’s morally abhorrent to have alcohol or any other substance that affects the mind and then get behind the wheel of a car.

Clearly you're just being an arse about this one.
Drinking after a single pint can be bad, something you hadn't considered in your crusade.
I just gave examples where it can be, after which you accused me of not being able to read and then made a false claim I supported zero tolerance because you failed to correctly read what I said...
You're making this harder work than it needs to be for some reason only known to you.
I don't agree with what Barnes did, nor do I want zero tolerance just for people like you sat at the back of the class not paying attention.

I have led the discussion since I asked Zlatan if he could confirm his thoughts on zero tolerance. Unfortunately you butted in half way after clearly not following the argument to make a point about your half pint friend that was clearly irrelevant to my argument

If you are going to drive don’t drink - at all.
The blood alcohol level limit is a tolerance not a target, not a difficult concept to grasp, but some clearly are struggling. The tolerance is in place to accommodate how different people handle alcohol in their blood stream differently, so your 40kg woman who has half a glass of wine the night before is still able (and within the limit) to drive the next morning after a night sleep. It is not a target for the 120kg alcoholic to see how many pints he can have before his blood alcohol levels reach the limit.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Not a difficult concept to grasp at all. There is a set figure of the amount of alcohol in a driver's bloodstream beyond which is illegal and below which is legal.
I'm comfortable with having two medium to low strength pints before driving and never more than that.
Others choose to have fewer drinks or none at all, that's fine by me.
Cheers !

No struggle whatsoever Eddie. I choose not to drink alcohol when driving, because I know living with the knowledge it COULD have been different would screw me up.
There may be a legal limit, but just because an individual is not legally responsible for the aftermath, neither can anyone guarantee they weren’t. I choose not to take the risk.
