Andros townsend
Andros townsend
Ben reported this morning he has held preliminary talks with burnley over a deal once his current deal at palace expires on july 1st. It was on hitc so not sure how believable. Hes currently co hosting with white and jordon on talksport .....maybe worth a listen to see if anything in it. Personally I would take him if figures are right . A good option. Thoughts??

I would love this signing. Quick, good crosser, experienced, adds goals from midfield. What’s not to like

Me too NC93 would be a great addition
Re: Andros townsend
he gets a lot of stick from some fans on here, but he is a good player and will work well for us I'm sure. Not sure I'll believe it until it happens though
Re: Andros townsend
His salary would be too much for us. Regardless of that he won’t be coming to Burnley.

Surprised he's still only 29
Re: Andros townsend
Young is about five years older which is significant. Townsend at 30 on a free will get paid more than we would offer.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:20 amNot sure on this. Young by all account was set to sign for us before Villa came in so we must be able to offer decent terms.

Re: Andros townsend
There are loads of ways they can get round this nowadays.
They could give him a signing on fee of 2m and then a wage of 50-60k a week. With our infamous bonuses on top of that. Would still be in our pay bracket.

Re: Andros townsend
I listened to him on Talksport earlier this week and the one phrase he kept repeating was 'if the deal is right for me'. That applied to staying, going or looking abroad.

I’d be in dreamland if we signed this young man. He has his doubters ai know but when he’s got his head on he can tear defences apart, some days he just needs the right mind set and I honestly believe SD would be the perfect answer for that. I’ll dream on now.

The deal might be about playing time, club ambition, friendships and social side, his family. Professional footballers aren’t as mercenary as you think.JohnMac wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:34 amI listened to him on Talksport earlier this week and the one phrase he kept repeating was 'if the deal is right for me'. If that’s the case he’ll be staying close to his roots rather coming to Lancashire. In my view he’ll end up at a London club - possibly Palace - or go abroadClaret_tinted wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:40 amThe deal might be about playing time, club ambition, friendships and social side, his family. We need younger players who will improve, not decrease in ability while taking the same wage.

22 league goals in 243 league appearances, so I wouldn't expect many goals from him.
I'd be more interested in seeing what he can set up for our actual goalscorers

That’s true but it equally, the budget might not be there for all our signings to be young, expensive up and comings.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:46 amWe need younger players who will improve, not decrease in ability while taking the same wage.

Re: Andros townsend
Yes we do, but we won't repair the damage done in one window. File this under the young signing for me. It will be a brilliant signing if we go and get a younger winger too.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:46 amWe need younger players who will improve, not decrease in ability while taking the same wage.

To be fair if he managed three goals a season for us I would be happy.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:49 am22 league goals in 243 league appearances, so I wouldn't expect many goals from him.

Re: Andros townsend
I thought Townsend looked like a player who felt like his time was up at Crystal Palace last season for me. The edge had gone from his game somewhat, and that he needed a move.
Whether that is to Burnley I have no idea, but I agree given some TLC there is a player still in there for someone.

I would also like this signing, I'd have him over Brownhill on the right any day of the week.

Re: Andros townsend
I very much doubt he'll have been offered a renewal at CP on anywhere near his previous terms
His interview did seem to suggest that he'd stay if the new manager wanted him to though. I get the impression he'd like to stay in London, but doubt he'll be in receipt of lots of big offers.

Re: Andros townsend
He's doing more and more media work.
My concern is would his focus be 100% on playing?

Re: Andros townsend
I know. And I think there's a good chance he'll stay there...obviously!
Re: Andros townsend
I suspect if Palace were going to offer significantly reduced terms he would know that and he would've already ruled out staying which he certainly hasn'tNewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 12:44 pmI very much doubt he'll have been offered a renewal at CP on anywhere near his previous terms

Might be more interested at this stage of his career in regular games than an extra few £k p/w

Re: Andros townsend
I don’t think that is the full equation though. Like previous posters have said he’s doing a lot more media work and obviously has many ties to London.
I suspect that should they want him he’d tip up at Brentford, but while the offer remains on the table and until something else materialises of course he’s saying he wants to sign for Palace if a new manager arrives and things progress… a bird in the hand and all that.

I wonder how many players would turn down a guaranteed contract on 23rd June in hopes that the new manager will confirm their possible contract sometime in July or August.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 12:11 pmHe stated on Talksport over a month ago that contracts had been agreed for majority of OOC players at Palace, but the club were holding off on signing them because they wanted a new manager.
Re: Andros townsend
Depends on how much time he can commit to playing football while filming the latest Wolverine movie.

Re: Andros townsend
I’ve always been a fan of Townsend, I thought his move from Spurs to Palace was a strange one at the time, but last season he no longer seemed to a must for Wroy… does SD think he could motivate him?
I see this as the kind of signing we would have been interested in… but this summer I’m not so sure we’ll be bending over backwards to offer everything it would take to get him. Think we are casting out nets besides having core targets, I see Andros in the ‘nice to have’ column rather than ‘get him’

If I remember rightfully Dwight Gayle went in the opposite direction it was more or less a swap deal some cash probably involved as well.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 1:46 pmQuite right I’d forgotten about his spell at Newcastle, the point stands however… he seems to become surplus to requirements after a while.

Not for sure. It’s a heavy workload for the players partner/wife. They’re the ones aligning the world. In my experience, many a move has been scuppered because that circle couldn’t be squared.
