I’ve missed crowd interaction more than anything else in every game I’ve watched, and that sudden release of raw emotion, particularly after the Sterling goal was enough to re-ignite passion for our national team. Oddly, the delirium brought back memories of our 2-2 draw at Walsall in 91/92! ?. Lol![]()
Superb. Roll on Saturday!
Yes better group. The group you said never played as a team, this group do. Regardless of the manager it’s the setup of England through the age groups.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:21 pmThe best group of England players you have ever seen? Are you 5 years old? better group than the Gerrard Scholes Carrick Lampard Cole J Cole Rooney Beckham Rio Terry lot? not a chance. It's a better group because of the group Southgate has created, sadly people wont want to admit that. We have Leeds United and West Ham in a midfield 2![]()
Nope. Said nothing about individuals. I said a better team.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 9:51 pmYou honestly think this team are better individually than Lampard. Gerrard. Rooney. Owen. Scholes. Beckham. Terry. Cole. Ferdinand. Cole. Neville.Etc.
So why are you against Southgate then? he formed this group, created a team out of this group. Southgate was apart of the youth setup with this team. This is the reason I like this group, like you say, they play as a team.
Games gone incredibly soft. But in the modern game that’s a red. He’s a probably really hurt him there.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:01 pmOuch for that tackle, bit harsh if that's a red though.
He got to the ball, that was his intent and he got there well before the Ukrainian laf
Which West Ham player got a red overturned for the same thing?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:01 pmOuch for that tackle, bit harsh if that's a red though.

It's the slow mo, I'm not a fan of VAR slow mo at all, makes everything look 1000x worse.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:01 pmOuch for that tackle, bit harsh if that's a red though.

Absolutely pathetic decision to send him off.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:01 pmOuch for that tackle, bit harsh if that's a red though.

He wasn't trying to challenge the Ukrainian lad, he kicked the ball.
To both you and Cricketfieldclaret
The ball wasn’t on the floor. How was he meant to play it other than with his foot at the same height as the ball. Pathetic decision.
you think Southgate had a good U21 record ?cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:01 pmAnd who had an excellent record as England under 21 manager and England national manager?
No it isn’t. Barnes didn’t go in in a reckless way, stayed on his feet and Matic ran into the follow through. The Swedish guy didn’t.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:08 pmHe wasn't trying to challenge the Ukrainian lad, he kicked the ball.
Its the Barnes /Matic scenario again
True! but this has been a physical contest, and it must be taking it's toll on both teams, whereas England got their business done and dusted in normal time, and can now rest up and relax, well these teams battle it out over 120 minutes, and possibly even the mental anxiety of penalties, so whichever side emerges they'll face a race to recover before Saturday, and any advantage can only help at this stage of the tournament.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:09 pmDoesn’t do any harm although it is a four day gap before the qf.
As someone who gave up on England after 2010 Africa, I stated recently on here that I like Southgate, his honesty, willingness to explain and back up his team selections etc so I've been watching /listening to England games for the first time in over a decade and feeling excited /hopeful again.bf2k wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:09 pmTo both you and Cricketfieldclaret
This is the result of the England youth setup finally getting things right. This group know each other, come through the ranks with each other and put club rivalries to one side because they’ve played with each other from such a young age.
No doubt Southgate has been out of that but tactically he’s been found wanting in many games. World Cup semifinal, qualifiers and friendlier when we should be streaming through teams. For me he’s not a good football manager.
Every single international team ever has come through the youth setups together and know each other.bf2k wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:09 pmTo both you and Cricketfieldclaret

The ball wasn’t close enough to him to play without going in recklessly, he could have chosen to stay on his feet and move closer to the ball. Had he done so then his and the Ukrainian players tournament wouldn’t both be over.Claretincraven wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:09 pmThe ball wasn’t on the floor. I'm in the exact same boat, I just like this group regardless of what trophies they win. I hated England for so long and completely gave up with the national team.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:16 pmAs someone who gave up on England after 2010 Africa, I stated recently on here that I like Southgate, his honesty, willingness to explain and back up his team selections etc so I've been watching /listening to England games for the first time in over a decade and feeling excited /hopeful again.
He's done a good job thus far, no losses and no goals conceded in this tournament and we are in the Q/F with a good chance to reach the semis.
It doesn't really matter what any of us think about his managerial ability, he's out there moving the team forward and setting up for each game individually, isn't getting hung up on trying to shoehorn players in, he's all about a team mentality.
A world cup Semi was a very good achievement and on the back of a difficult season being in the Q/F is very good, a semifinal would be great....anything else brilliant.
Also how he responded to that stupid reference to the penalty he missed etc was spot on and admirable.
Only one player was reckless and it wasn’t the Swede.
I’ve missed the red card and for some reason I can’t rewind it.
Odd that he’s not the one with the injury then.Claretincraven wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:20 pmOnly one player was reckless and it wasn’t the Swede.
The Swedish player was stretching to get the ball, he got it before the Ukrainian lad, the Ukrainian lad collided with the leg AFTER the Swede had kicked the ball away.

Yes, as I said the Swede didn’t stay on his feet.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:24 pmThe Swedish player was stretching to get the ball, he got it before the Ukrainian lad, the Ukrainian lad collided with the leg AFTER the Swede had kicked the ball away.

A still picture isn’t much use to be fair. I’ll make sure I see the incident afterwards.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:25 pmhttps://twitter.com/Spainbvb1/status/14 ... 50026?s=19
