Re: Arthur Gomes
Brazilians on Twitter (using Twitters own ‘translate post’ feature, anyway) seem a bit stunned that he has managed to get a move to the Premier League.
However, I will judge him on what I see at Turf Moor. If NOTHING else, it’s a little bit exciting, let’s all acknowledge at least that much. I’d far rather take a gamble on this lad at 23 than an old head who we know is past it. He’s capped at Brazilian youth levels, has played 90+ games for Santos (I mean, I’m not up on Brazilian football but they’re the club we all know there, of Pele, Robinho, Neymar etc fame) and is a WINGER.
Let’s be optimistic, supportive and yes, excited at the prospect of this very different sort of transfer for our club.

Just can't see a foreigner fitting into what is the most English dressing room in the league. Language barrier, from Brazil to Burnley is such a big culture change.

Sounds like a signing by people who know very little about football. Hope they prove me wrong.
Re: Arthur Gomes
Loving the idea that Dyche has said to Mr Pace "go and get me Arthur Gomes from Santos".

Re: Arthur Gomes
Really don't know what to think of us signing an unknown Brazilian, to be honest I would be a bit underwhelmed.
I doubt Dyche knows much if anything about him and its a Alk signing. Never been a fan of out and out wingers they always remind me of a school boy, who play like a headless chicken. He will be in for a shock playing in the Premier league for Burnley where there is more to the game than running with the ball, he will have to put in a proper shift by tracking back and putting a foot in.
I doubt we will see much of him this season he will more than likely put in with the under 23s to learn his trade.

There’s no greater thing than watching an out and out winger getting to the byline and whipping one in. And Burnley’s had loads of them.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 7:03 pmReally don't know what to think of us signing an unknown Brazilian, to be honest I would be a bit underwhelmed.

Re: Arthur Gomes
We can’t win with some fans can we
Fans say we should be looking to the foreign market more and trying to find these undiscovered gems
The when it appears we have done, we then get “never heard of him, can’t see him fitting in & playing”

If we have signed him I wonder if it's based on the money ball approach that Brentford and a few other clubs are using?

This is exactly the type of signings we should be making. Cheap, low wages but unknown quantities

Re: Arthur Gomes
At this stage I’ll take any professional footballer who plays right midfield under the age of 34
Re: Arthur Gomes
I’m not sure I understand the concern too much.
Low fee, presumably unlikely to command a huge wage.
Yes there’s a good chance this deal may not work out, but that goes with every signing. And if it doesn’t, there’s no financial implication. We’re not lumbered with instalments for 1/2/3 years.

He can use both feet & his head, has pace.........sign him up!
Re: Arthur Gomes
What's wrong with people saying they've never heard of him...how is that a criticism?
I've never heard of or seen him so I've absolutely no idea if he'd be a good or bad signing.
No one on here knows.

Re: Arthur Gomes
I agree but that was in the old days. A Burnley player needs to be able to track back and put a shift in and not stand with his hands on hip when he loses the ball.
Like I said he will have to serve his time and prove his worth with the under 23s. It would be crazy signing an unknown from Brazil and throwing him into the toughest league in the world it could ruin him

great move on the quiet, he'll no doubt hang around with the Brazilians at City and Liverpool. I see us getting Fernadhino and Allison in the next couple of windows

Re: Arthur Gomes
There’s nothing wrong with saying you’ve never heard of him - I doubt many of us had until an hour ago.
What I’m getting at are the comments saying he won’t play and it being the most un Burnley signing made (which I said myself in another post)
But people have said we need to spread the net when recruiting and when it appears we finally have done we get the “ohhh. Not sure about that”
It’s about time we started taking a punt on finding these hidden talents like other clubs do. From reports, it’s not looking like it’s costing us too much at £2.5m and never know in a few years we could be selling for £25m

Re: Arthur Gomes
The biggest worry about this possible transfer is whether Dyche will actually give him a chance. Get ready for phrases such as "getting the feel of it" and "he is in and around it" whilst Brownhill struggles out on the right and Pieters come on in the 70th minute for McNeil.
Re: Arthur Gomes
If we sign him i can envisage a Brazilian wax becoming popular in Burnley

Can't wait. Lennon on one wing and Arfur on the other, tearing up the premier league defences.
Exciting times.......oh wait, can he track back ?

Re: Arthur Gomes
A positive move if it happens.
I don’t particularly agree with the idea of sending him to the under 23s though. I’d hope at worst he trains with the first team and makes the bench in his first few weeks.
He must have enough about him to at least expect to be in the first team squad else why would he be interested in leaving where he’s been to come to an under 23s team? Not like he’s 16 or 17 years old.
Exciting times.

That’s a wingback then. I think with our full backs we could accommodate a winger.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 7:21 pmI agree but that was in the old days. A Burnley player needs to be able to track back and put a shift in and not stand with his hands on hip when he loses the ball.

If it’s true about a release clause it would mean we wouldn’t have to insert a sell on clause either.
