Where do you see Burnley in 5 years time?

Post by CaptJohn » Fri Aug 13, 2021 7:52 am

No one has a crystal ball but I thought I'd ask peoples thoughts.

I think we'll be a bottom half Championship team struggling to avoid relegation. That's assuming the present league structure survives for 5 years, which I doubt it will.

Depending on what the current owners invest and increase our player asset base .

Plenty - low/mid prem
very little - low champ ( see Rovers )

This season is pivotal, stay in the Premier League and we could be there in 5 years time. If we go down many possibilities open up.

If Dyche is backed somewhere around middle to lower end Premier league.

If he is not somewhere around league 1 and the championship

Mid-table championship team, bringing through players into the 1st team from the academy.

On some levels that might be more preferable to our current incarnation, although the worlds best footballers visiting Turf Moor hasn't got old yet.

I’d be surprised if we hadn’t dropped down by then, I can’t say I’d lose too much sleep, probably would hurt for a few weeks then I’d enjoy the championship once the fixtures came out.
Can’t see us in league 1, not a chance in my mind.

Even if he is backed, we could still be in the Championship in 5 years.

For 10-12 teams, PL survival is pretty much a lottery every season.

Sheff Utd spent £50M+, and it didn’t equate to anything.

No doubt this will be another thread hijacked from those that don’t want to give ALK a chance.

Who knows where we'll be, but if we do drop out of the EPL, and don't bounce right back, we'll be in a far worse position than those 10 miles down the road. We won't have a sugar daddy chucking millions at us just to keep the club afloat in the Championship.

If we were still in the Premier League in five years time it really would be a remarkable achievement to be looking forward to an eleventh successive season.

Time is always called on clubs like ours in the Premier League but for now I'll just enjoy being there and hope it can last a while longer.

I don’t want to worry anyone but Bolton we’re relegated from the Premier League in 2011/12, so if we’re 10 years behind as Coyle said……

I don’t agree I think Dyche has proven that even with small funds he can keep a team up. I suspect if Dyche is still here in 5 years then he will have been backed and we will be in the premier league

Never mind 5 years time but next season where ever we are is going to be a huge rebuild job. We have some valuable assets though and if we were to drop still on receipt of parachute payments so I don’t know why people are doom and gloom.

Even if we were to drop we would have to be seen as one of the favourites to come straight back up. The likes of Mee, Cork, Rodriguez and Wood aren’t going to be getting premier league gigs and if we could keep them and Dyche I can’t see anything other than steamrolling through the league again.

Football is unpredictable. Especially for clubs like ours. Whilst I'm optimistic about our future, I tend to think it's best just to sit back and enjoy the ride.

You simply can't predict anything, especially within sport.

Who'd have said 5 years ago we'd be an established Premier League club without any serious investment in the playing squad that we had 5 years ago?

There's a good chance the European Super League will be up and running by then, even given the very harsh penalties the clubs involved have received - if only. The EPL.will be more competitive then and hopefully we will be a part of that.

I’d expect by next season the board will be looking for the next manager ready for Sean to either leave or move into a group General manager. The club ticking over among the elite but not seriously challenging… a bit higher than now, but our associate clubs moving on leaps and bounds and ready to start the next phase, with associates providing the players for a push into top six.

I have absolutely no doubt the approach is both the right thing for Burnley and far more valuable than spending £100m on players now and bumping along until relegation smacks us into the grass by over speculation in the transfer market. Obviously it would be running alongside sustainable additions, just as we have to bring in a couple now, but I believe minimum risk now and lining up the ducks is far more important than splashing wads of cash to keep fans happy

Tough one to call.
If ALK prove not to be potless chancers then we could be an established PL outfit.

If they do prove to be potless and clueless then it's hard to see us avoiding League One, let alone the championship.

The next fortnight will tell us what we need to know. Fingers well and truly crossed.
