I'm sure we can offer better terms that Lyon at the moment, and its not like he's going to have to live in Burnley Wood is it?
But it is up to him

Got a feeling we will end up with Cornet and Knight.
Cornet - whether he'd prefer a move somewhere else or not, there's no other viable options on the table for him at the moment. Right now it seems like it's either a move to Burnley or stay with Lyon who need the money to do business. Might fancy proving himself in the Premier League.
Knight - seems like a Burnley type of player, would be a good signing. Could play wide. Been linked with him for a while by similar sources to those that linked us with Collins. Derby in a mess.
Bit flaky in my reasoning but signing a couple of wide players really would be the sauce on top of the whippy.

Sadly today was a bit predictable. I think in fairness we are asking an awful lot from our squad in a League thats unfogivingwarksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 10:01 amFor those that believe we will be fine this season with the midfield we have, I suspect that the home game v Brighton, whilst easy on paper, will provide a reality check. "Cornet is Lyons maid for Burnley"
Lyons Maid was purchased by an American company and went bust within 2 years, being purchased by Nestle in 1992 when it went into receivership.

2 weeks left. What is clear from yesterday is one signing won’t cut it. Central Midfield needs improving as well as a RW. A striker is needed to replace Jay Rod or Barnes but doubt that will happen. We look a very tired predictable team with no pace and short of ideas.

JBG can cover wide left and then may be brave enough to get crosses in from the goal line. In the 2nd half he was given numerous chances to get down the line and cross with his right foot but, every time, chose to stop and come back inside onto his left before putting the ball over. I know he hit the post with his right foot but he clearly has no confidence to get down the line and put a cross over with his right peg
Cornet, whoever he is, is not what we need now
We need at least one wide right and at least one central mid both of whom have to be ready to start
Westwood and Cork were like lost sheep again with Brownhill not offering much of an improvement
We could probably get away with the three strikers (plus a laboured Barnes) if we got midfield strengthened
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
We certainly need some new blood in CM. Westwood is OK , Brownhill isn't good enough to play a central 2 and Cork is getting passed it, he loses the tempo after 60 minutes.
Potter saw that our midfield was dead on its feet and made the changes we couldn't because we don't have anyone with any quality, although It would have helped if Dyche had have gone to a 5 to match them

Well I for one am shocked that the consensus seems to be one signing won’t be enough, after multiple summers in which we didn't improve the team. Shocked.

If people are going to quote Nixon, then its probably worth quoting what else he has said
We are still active, we are the only ones in for him at that price and we are very close to what they will accept
Add that to the info from French journalists and the Athletic yesterday, namely that Lyon are waiting on selling Cornet to start their transfer business, then I think we are almost there.

Joel is with Accy either to toughen him up or to develop and sell on

On BT Sport 3. Its only the first match I've seen Cornet play but at the moment I’m undecided about him. He’s either very lazy or he doesn’t want to get injured before a move. Id like to think its the latter. At the moment though hes not showing much for us to get excited about. He’s playing at full back at the moment so hopefully Lyon will push him forward a bit more.

And as Nixon also said … if Hertha sell a player to Athletico … then they could come back in for Cornet as they still have an interest in him.

This transfer will run right to end of the window. When you have an asset you dont just sell to the first bidder with first offer.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
From what I saw from cornet he looks very quick and agile and a tidy player. Defensively he did track back but not enough for a left back. I can see why we are interested though as he looks a good direct winger who can cross with a background of defensive work. How he plays at left back is probably quite similar to how we want out wingers to play. Poor tackle for his second yellow though. Lyon were dreadful.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I don't know if anyone else watched the football show on Sky Sports yesterday lunch. When I switched it on Paul Merson and a few others were discussing Burnley's lack of signings. Paul's conclusion was that players were just not attracked to a team with the formation (4-4-2) and style of football we play.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Correct me if I'm wrong but I suspect players are simply not attracted to us because our wages are not as high as other clubs.Steddyman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 1:29 pmI don't know if anyone else watched the football show on Sky Sports yesterday lunch. Could you ever imagine a player sticking with a lower salary simply because he prefers a different formation?
