Other clubs have differing ways of doing it I suspect
I think more and more its about which agents you know, and what contacts you have, and what you are prepared to offer them, and I think we are still struggling with this unfortunately.
I think with us it’s a negotiation ploy to get cornet for less. Lyon need to sell to buy so we know they will accept sooner or later.

Apparently Everton are submitting a 2m bid for Matthew Hoppe of shalke.
Thought we would have been interested at them kind of bids.
Especially given our new owners

Sky Sports mentioned before Burnley have placed a £12m bid for Cornet this morning.
His club want 15m, so today 12m
Tommorrow 13m
Wednesday 14m
Thursday 14.8m
Friday he signs for another club, we get told we tried to sign him but lost out, it's all Smoke and mirrors by Burnley again.

It’s obvious we’re trying, but just think we’ll get out bid by someone

Take too long over something and it gives others more time to outbid and get involved. Particularly clubs that can do things quicker. BFC - Slow off the pitch and slow on it.

You cannot fail to be less than optimistic, as we have been in this position so many times and lost out.You don't go and view a house that you cannot afford. You may haggle, but if you and your wife really want it, and it ticks most of the boxes, then the chances are you go to full asking price in order not to lose it.

We can be outbid, and if he wants to go to another club, then there is nothing we can do
And posts like "its just another million that pushes it over the line" are both unhelpful and suggest that too many people think that is how it works in real life for a club like ours.
Do I think we will get him?
No, not really, simply because he's a good player available at a reasonable price and as other targets for other players don't come off, we might lose out

The frustrating thing is that over the years we have spent a lot of money on bench warmers, and ‘good for the dressing room’ types, which could better have been spent on getting deals for better players over the line

And what about wages?
Better players mean far higher wages.

I meant the total costs: transfers plus the wages of players who have made very little contribution

Which is a good sign that its a worthwhile source tbh

Was interesting to see Lennon as part of the overall team in Saturday. He was fully track suited up with a pass around his neck and went to sit behind the subs bench but came from the tunnel with the wider playing staff. He is clearly here for more than fitness I would say based on that.

I suspect he is signing but the club probably want to announce another player at the same time to deflect from the criticism

We need wide men, and Lennon plus one other is not the worst (not the best either)
Saturday summed up the lack of options perfectly sadly

Looks like Wolves, Brentford, Newcastle and Everton all going in for Hoppe.
Can’t believe we are not at least trying. Commercially I suspect it would improve our image in America as well

Yeah, may as well not have him available for selection until we sign someone else, just to keep the fannies from whinging.

That press release is relating to Rudi Garcia from May 2021. That account is fake and this is why social media need to bring in some sort of ID checks, because this account is even "official" with the blue tick, but it's still a load of shite.

And how long ago was that? What is the reason there's been no flair players signed in nearly 4 years?

All this talk about needing wide players is fair enough, but I honestly believe we need to find better players to replace Cork, Westwood and Brownhill in central midfield, by far our weakest area.

You have got that 100% right.
We could have ronaldo on the wing but if we can’t get the ball to him in space there’s not a lot anyone can do

looking at the team / squad from last season I still find it mind blogging (if true) that 2 of our "top targets" were Albrighton (32 in November) and Young (36 years old) - probably the very last thing we need age wise !!!!!!!!!!

This is the result of doing nothing of any substance over repeated Transfer windows...we have been storing up problems.

Either of them, and we would never have gone for both, would have been outstanding signings. One of them has got a move to Villa, the other a very lucrative extension at Leicester, so you might find it mind boggling but Dean Smith and Brendan Rodgers didn't.

To be fair Tony both of there squads are considerably younger and larger than ours, they can afford to carry old players. Both would have been strange signings given the realities of our squad.
