Weather could've been better. Planning on returning home a day early.
Kids have surfed, we've walked loads, eaten ice creams aplenty. The Treleavens is quality. Polperro was nice. Walked there and back.
Not sure we'll be back next year. Need a bit more heat, like in the Vendée, where we've been for years!
On a side note, caught a game at Tavistock and Millbrook... nine goals!

Lovely part of the world but couldn't think of anything worse than going to Cornwall at the moment. Sounds like hell. Traffic jams, queueing, loads of people everywhere, everything booked up -yuk

Having sat in a pub in Skye having tea, watching loads of tourists turn up and find there is literally nowhere to eat
It had the busiest Chinese take away I've ever seen as well

Travelling down to Tiverton on Friday and then onto west charleton on Saturday to a holiday cottage for a week . Usually have a week in Looe ( Rock towers) at sometime during the year but couldn't get in , but I'll take the train from Liskeard and have a meal in the sail loft . Padstow parking : if you head towards the bottom car park , take a right onto a residential road and there's usually plenty of free parking about 5 minutes walk from the harbour .

Drove down to Padstow last Friday and it took 6 hours setting off at 5am. No jams whatsoever.
Since been on both the North and South coasts, Eden Project, Looe, Fowey all busy but not overly so. Had a brilliant time if though weather has been cloudy.
Highly recommended!

Just had a pint in there, just going to paignton now to grab some food and a walk on the front, and let the kids go on the rides/amusement
We were thinking of going the waterpark, but there's no great days.
A day in the pub Saturday I think for the footy, whilst the women shop
The very same. We prob passed each other on the front.
If there is a nice day the water park is worth it. Not for little ones as the really little ones bit is shut but 7 upwards I’d say will have a good do

I always think Cornwall is better in winter, great coastal walks, the locals are friendlier, and it never gets really cold.

If you're watching the game Saturday and fancy some fellow claret company, we are going the Ship Inn, ( it's a sizzler pub that does food so family type place ) I've rang to check they are deffo showing and they are.
there are a few other places showing the game in and around Paignton too like the Grand just up from the front, and Waterside across from the water park.

I know, but it's far better than the 20 hour round trip from Burnley, I'm not sure how much longer we will have both the kids with us on our little UK tours, so it's one for the tick list whilst we are somewhere near.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 9:14 pmCricky. You are a glutton for punishment. It really isn't worth the 5 or 6 hour round trip from Paignton.
I've already done Burnley - Warwickshire - Stonehenge- Paignton on my trip.
Lands end and back to Paignton tomorrow, 4 more days here before a couple of days in Bath, then the trip back to Burnley
No wonder my backs in tatters, with all the driving on our day trips locally too, I reckon I'll have done over 24 hours of driving on " my break from work"

Thankfully I've got Saturday off to enjoy ( hopefully ) the game and several beers

Macca, you'll need another holiday by the time you get home, especially after the Lands End trip.

I’ve seen more BFC shirts than any other club with the exception of Spurs, oddly (all their new 3rd kit, which must be popular) and Arsenal on the opening Friday.

Do, you'll love the food, though it's not cheap, but I don't mind paying out for good quality. You will have to book, I presume. Anyway, even if you don't eat there, you can still go into the ground floor part of the building where there's a small heritage centre (free admittance).expoultryboy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:16 pmI probably walked past " nelson " and the sardine factory for a week last year and didn't go in once ! Re: Cornwall is apparently full?
We tried in earlier this month.
Thought it was good fun albeit a bit frustrating to find that my deadball kicking has slipped to an atrocious level. The course is challenging so much more fun than crazy golf or pitch and putt
There are two courses, one on the level and a hilly one. We played the level one and thought that was enough for one day, did not have enough time to return but I think two rounds in one day would be overkill.
Get there early and you will not have to wait too long, we got there at 10.30 and waited half an hour. We had previously tried at about 3.30 and the queue estimate was an hour and a half.
Well worth the money by Cornwall prices
Re: Cornwall is apparently full?

Like owt else, it depends what your bag is. Using your loaf helps too. If you enjoy birdsh1t, burgers, beer and chips or mingling with the hordes of proles then Newquay, Padstow and St Ives may well be for you.
The Scillies can't be beaten if your tastes tend towards beauty, isolation and tranquility, away from the unwashed in a crime and (virtually) traffic free location...but its not a place for those who need to be "entertained".
I drove from Rossendale to Lands End Airport in 5.5 hours last night..simply got my arse out of bed at 530am and got a move on.

The Scilly Isles are indeed a dream destination. My wife and I have been 4 times, twice by boat and once by plane and helicopter. Unfortunately it is very expensive to get to. There are day trips at lower prices but this is weather and tide dependent.

After Lands end we decided to swing by Newquay on our way back for a walk and some food, and low and behold bumped into a young lad wearing a Burnley tracksuit.
We exchanged a up the clarets as I was wearing my Burnley shorts, then a hi 5!
He looked to be with around 6 or 7 others when he went back to his table!

I used to go regularly, and had the good fortune of having a friend living there who had a boat.
Been on most of the inhabited islands, and I would say it's a great place for a holiday despite the high costs.

Guilty as charged.. Think I clocked just under 380 miles.. But in my defence the roads were empty.. And I was well onto the M5 before any traffic appeared.. the only significant average checks were those after North Staffs services... And they're 60mph now, up from 50.
