It sounded to me as if he was just clearing up the allegations against marcelo(?) for apparently attacking him in the dressing room after the game for getting a red.

I don’t know but it’s probably club pr. It says something when we’re talking about a players Instagram post - but I don’t think that shows he’s staying at all. In fact I’d say he’s almost certainly not staying as they have presented Emerson today who will play left back. And they need the money to pay for shaquiri... let’s hope so anyway.

Technically you are in breach of your contract going AWOL but it wasn’t really as permission was granted, I can’t think of any other organisation letting a worker just leave the workplace & still paying them when unhappy, you refuse permission he leaves he’s technically breaching his own contract & you are well within your rights to hold back payments, very strange setup in my view.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 6:38 pmLoan with agreement to buy, conditional on them getting promoted was how it was reported when the loan was agreed/12 months ago.
The club kept paying Gibson's wages even when he was back training at M'boro. If BFC had stopped paying him I believe he could walk away on a free.

One thing is certain Lyon certainly don't want all of Emerson, Shaqiri & Cornet.
Something has to give.

The phrase is penny pinching, in the premier league 2m is nothing...its not literally pennies. Its got nothing whatsoever to do with your money, or mine. If you can't see how we've missed out on players previously by not coughing the extra I can't really help you more than I have already. We are notorious for paying poorly, not just with transfer fees, but wages too.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 5:40 pmSo, superd, if it's "only pennies" how much will you put into the pot to make it happen? Should we all have a "whip round" at the next home game? Let's say there are 10,000 adults on the ground. How much is £2,000,000 split between 10,000? Are we all ready to chip in £200? Would it be "penny pinching" if anyone isn't ready to do that?
UTC
Quite simple really, we should be able to pay the extra for Cornet but instead we're choosing to gamble again and hope Lyon give in. That way we can possibly get him cheaper, but possibly not get anyone at all.
If you are to play that strategy you need backup signings you can make if it doesn't work out.
If you are doing what we are, and leaving it to the very last minute then you don't even have time left to do another deal, which can mean another half-season atleast with crap squad depth.
Investment is always risk vs reward, and we're always far, far too conservative compared to other teams. Its time we look to the future and what we can gain by spending more money, rather than looking at the possible worse outcome each time.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Cornet will 100% leave Lyon today or in the next few day's, and I've got a feeling it's going to be us who signs him
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Just seen that Atalanta are signing Thorsby from Sampdoria for just €6 million. The players are out there in our price range.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Seems no one else has come close to matching our offer and they'll want to take our money rather than let his value diminish.
Persuading the player to join us is the key to it all.

Our recruitment is the area that needs serious overall. We need to cut our costs post Covid but we can still identify and buy players within our means. However, the dealing with clubs re incoming players is often sullied by agents. This has caused us issues as we are unwilling to pay commission to these parasites ,who have been our problem as this raises the price outside of our means.

Living within our means sounds sensible, albeit not without its challenges as you have rightly mentioned. A problem with our online fanbase in particular is that when we go after targets within our means there's a proportion of fans that complain we're not pushing to become more competitive, expansive etc. The flip side of that is that we push for a higher calibre of player which naturally is likely a more difficult and time consuming deal to negotiate, and people complain that we're not getting deals over the line.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 8:29 amOur recruitment is the area that needs serious overall. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Is it possible that the absence of incomings results from there being no significant outgoings from which to fund them?
I've heard that Evertons interest in McNeil has not waned and he is a definite target for them still...possibly this situation has a bearing on things elsewhere?.

I wouldn’t have thought so, if the stories are to be believed we’ve made at least one bid for Cornet of £12m.fatboy47 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:01 amIs it possible that the absence of incomings results from there being no significant outgoings from which to fund them?

It concerns me that we could get Cornet and then sell Dwight at the last minute, still leaving us with just 2 wingers. Or 3 including Lennon.fatboy47 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:01 amIs it possible that the absence of incomings results from there being no significant outgoings from which to fund them?

We won't sell Dwight unless someone offers 'Silly money' and I'm pretty sure that Everton haven't got that sort of money.summitclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:29 amIt concerns me that we could get Cornet and then sell Dwight at the last minute, still leaving us with just 2 wingers. Every player has his price though and I'm sure that Burnley will have contingency plans for a replacement in the unlikely event of him leaving in this window.

We’re like those people who go to Tesco and hang around the whoopsie aisle waiting for 50p to be knocked off something - then seem stunned when the product is very close to its best by date and has ultimately turned rotten by the time they come to use it.

It is like saying there are some on here who go into Tesco and say I am giving you £50 for that, staff then say "but Sir it is only £22", "I don't care about that this is what I am paying so here is your £50"
Or the kid who opens his PS7 on xmas day and is happy with it until little Tommy down the road got a PS8 so kid starts crying

And, I can't think of any other employer who can sell an employee's contract to another employer. There are maximum penalties for footballers breaching their contracts. It's a fixed number of weeks wages. BFC loaned Gibson to Norwich last season and Gibson's transfer to Norwich - reported for £8 million - was completed in this transfer window. What more evidence do we need to know that BFC continued to pay Gibson's wage (less any penalties) after the events of Jan 2019?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 19, 2021 10:22 pmTechnically you are in breach of your contract going AWOL but it wasn’t really as permission was granted, I can’t think of any other organisation letting a worker just leave the workplace & still paying them when unhappy, you refuse permission he leaves he’s technically breaching his own contract & you are well within your rights to hold back payments, very strange setup in my view.

I’m not disputing that, I’m questioning the period he left with permission to go to rockcliffe I’m struggling to understand why he was still being paid whilst somewhere else, if I left my workplace & went to another workplace even under contract, for 1 I would be denied permission & secondly I wouldn’t be paid whilst not at the workplace, I understand essentially he was pretty much doing the exact same thing at rockliffe as he would have been doing at gawthorpe, you train with a set team for a reason, Liam Cooper from Leeds wouldn’t be granted permission to train with us because if he did there’s every likelihood on a match day he would be confused & be passing the ball to Ben mee & others when he should be passing the ball to ayling ect, I realise it wasn’t exactly like that because boro are/were a championship side, like I say a very strange setup for allowing permission & secondly even more bizarre for paying him for that favour.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:10 amAnd, I can't think of any other employer who can sell an employee's contract to another employer. Am trying to think of other clubs in the Prem where we have the same wealth in terms of ownership.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 10:11 amI don’t think he was referring to Man City & Chelsea ect, lots of other clubs on a similar level equal footing to us don’t seem to experience half the problems we seem to experience.
Even allowing for the fact we had £50-90 million (depending on what has been said) in the bank that's peanuts in today's money.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Completely agree, and I’ve been thinking more and more recently that this is the case.fatboy47 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 9:01 amIs it possible that the absence of incomings results from there being no significant outgoings from which to fund them?

Perhaps no-one coming in for Tarks, or offering us what we want, has stalled our transfer business?
I accept that in the coming years, we’re going to have to sell a star player to fund the conveyor belt. Big clubs like Leicester are selling big name players every year to rejuvenate the squad.
The only issue we have is the conveyor belt isn’t up and running yet in terms of the academy, and selling a big name player for us at the moment, with the squad as it is, leaves a giant hole.
