just been pleading in his after match interview for City fans to turn up
"We've scored 16 goals in 3 home games and we need more people to come" (or words similar to that)
City fans are garbage

You can score as many as you want but fans have only got so much money.
It's expensive watching Burnley. Times it by 20 to watch City every game. They have around 7 away trips in Europe. 3 or 4 Wembley trips a year.
I don't get the slagging off of supporters, usually done by people who don't go themselves.

Our League Cup game at Newcastle being a prime example.

Don’t they only charge £10 for these early CL games?

Too much Champions League/ Cup/League success football shared amongst too few clubs. Our fans have got used to the novelty of the Premier League, they’ve got used to cup football.

Maybe Pep could fund a few thousand tickets for local school kids to fill the empty seats. Probably needs something to spend his multi millions on I’ll bet.

Soulless individual. Reflective of the club in many ways.

average price tonight for an adult was 20 quid for a Champions League game watching a team as good as that. You'll find it was Pep who was slagging his own supporters off

Maybe some people literally don’t feel safe as others. I personally do not feel safe cramming into a football stadium to be in close contact with others at the moment.

The City fans don’t have the best relationship with the UCL do they? I don’t blame them, it’s such a boring, joyless competition

It was a general post, not a dig at you.
Twitter is full of United fans having a go at City by fans who never go to Old Trafford.
There's only Liverpool who sell out because they have a small ground for a super club and it gives new fans a chance to watch.

Anfield only holds about 1,600 less than the Etihad, and once the new stand gets built it'll be bigger than the Emirates.
Also, having lived and worked here for best part of 20 years, Manchester is definitely more red than blue.

Yes, but City isn't a super club yet. Another 20 years of this success then maybe it will catch up with Liverpool and United? Who could fill their grounds with Irish and Norwegian fans every weekend.

A bit like the Premier league,I watched the Bournemouth v QPR the other night, great game, great atmosphere,a spell for us in this league wouldn't be a disaster, still the most competitive league in England and the best imo.

There are digs at city and manchester is certainly red but uniteds attendance is made up from foreign/tourists too
I have a mate who has a season ticket at united and has for years and his surrounding row area is made up of foreign support - and also the same faces arent in attendance every week which implies people are buying season tickets but selling the matches game by game for a large profit

I think there will be a gradual decline in football as the national sport, certainly as a spectator sport with the limitless availability of football on the tele. Shops, pubs, cinemas etc. have all dwindled with footfall as people just go on line or drink at home football will be no different.

I work in Manchester quite a bit, and nearly every Citeh season ticket holding fan I know, couldn't give a toss about this competition. They have such a massive downer on the whole thing, and have done for years.

If we were in it every year, we’d be getting 10,000 in the group stage nonsense games. I personally don’t watch it until the knockout rounds because the group stage is trousers.

Zero jeopardy football though. About as exciting as the World Cup qualifiers.

Should stop playing champ manager on cheat mode and try with a team like Burnley who have no money, we'd see if hes a decent manager then!

This.
Despite their reverse last night Utd will still probably coast through the group, just imagine how exciting it would have been if that had been a KO match.
Part of the fall in attendances is due to too much football in my opinion, and a group stage encounter with Leipzig simply doesn't whet the appetite of City fans.
Pity more didn't attend as they missed a 9 goal thriller, but your 100% correct about zero jeopardy football, and this was one of the main factors in the ESL proposals going down like a lead balloon with the supporters.

United got knocked out at the group stage last year. Atalanta and Villarreal in their group also aren’t slouches by any means, with one of them just beating them in the Europa league final.

I'm jealous of German football with regards the attendance/atmosphere. I don't know why English clubs charge so much for tickets when they're never going to sell out at those prices. I remember reading years ago you could get an adult Bayern Munich season ticket for £80.

Yes Bayern are a prime example of how it's possible to get punters through the gates.
And if City's CL games aren't going to attract the crowds perhaps they need to be more creative in their pricing.

Would be interesting to see how many other clubs are seeing more empty seats as fans slowly return this season.
I notice that Everton didn't give out the attendance for Mondays game.
And there looked to be plenty of empty seats when Southampton drew with West ham

You won't find many empty seats at Everton. Fans are desperate for good seats at the new stadium. They have a ST waiting list and a system to sell on your unused tickets. Previously stubhub, they were bringing it in house.
