Re: Jimmy Greaves RIP
We had Lochhead & Irvine but they had Gilzean & Greaves at the same time. What two incredible strike pairs they were, but Jimmy Greaves was just the most incredible goalscorer I have ever seen.
I also had the good fortune to meet him when he spoke at a Supporters Club dinner. Chatting before the dinner, he was just the same as he was on Saint & Greavesy.

Rest in Peace Jimmy. Probably one of the most prolific English forwards of all time. Saw him play several times. Class.

Re: Jimmy Greaves RIP
Sad but alas not unexpected given his recent health scares.
Hard to believe both he and his long time TV partner Ian St John have both departed in the space of a few months.
That show was a Saturday lunchtime stable during my youth.
RIP Jimmy.

Poetry in motion; glided across the ground. Lethai in and around the penalty box. Greatest goalscorer I've seen. RIP Jimmy Greaves.

Very sad news. I'm too young to have seen him play, but I used to love 'Saint and Greavsie' as a kid. They were a great double act that used to have my whole family in stitches at times. RIP.

Re: Jimmy Greaves RIP
My dad raved about him, and said if we had him at Burnley we would have won the league year after year. I never saw him live but the bits I’ve seen of him on YouTube proves he was special.
To me as a kid he was just that really funny uncle that happened to be on telly talking about footy.
RIP Greavsey.

Re: Jimmy Greaves RIP
Sad news. He was a fantastic character and, of course, one of the greatest goalscorers this country has ever produced.
Our side of the early 60s would very likely have won more trophyware if it weren't for him!

A truly great footballer who I was privileged to see play at Turf Moor!
Jimmy sadly was injured in the final group game against France in the ‘66 World Cup and as a result missed the following quarter-final match and following games.
Admired by all who saw him play
rest in peace Jimmy…and thank you!

A sad day for football.
Jimmy was one of the best players ever to emerge from this country. One of the games most interesting characters and Saturday lunchtimes before setting off to watch a match with Saint and Greavsy was a big part of Saturdays before Sky came along.
RIP Jimmy Greaves football legend.

I recall him once providing highlights commentary for a game between Halifax Town and Wrexham, a game where there were about 800 people in attendance. He absolutely had me in stitches describing the goals, which in effect dribbled over the line.

Re: Jimmy Greaves RIP
Another sad day for the loss of the greatest goalscorer I have ever seen
I can remember the day in 1961 whe I got on board the Chelsea team bus and Jimmy signed a picture I had of him against the window and the bus set off to get train at Manchester
Thankfully they dropped me off on the way into Burnley

A great player and fantastic presenter, The Saint and Greavsie was part of the fabric of my youth...remember him talking with great fondness for Burnley and Jimmy Mac before the Orient game. He fought his deamons aswell which you have to admire...very fitting that Spurs play Chelsea today......RIP Jimmy

Re: Jimmy Greaves RIP
My first visit to Turf Moor was March 1962 vs Tottenham Hotspurs ( 46810 on that day)
Finished 2 - 2 inevitably Greaves scored.
Signed by Bill Nick for £99,999 in December 1961to relieve Jimmy from the pressure of being England's first £100,000 player.
One of the greatest English players ever to grace a football pitch.

Without doubt the best goal scorer I have ever seen play. He seemed to glide over the pitch and went past defenders like they didn’t exist. Deadly with both feet with an incredible burst of speed over 20 yards. RIP Jimmy Greaves.

A wonderful player even though I was stood on the Bee Hole when Peter Mellor saved a penalty from him right in front of me.
Very sad news, always good to watch both on the pitch and on TV in his later years. Many thanks Jimmy.

Very lucky to see him play a few times in London.
I remember Burnley losing 8 nil at WHL, with Jimmy Greaves stood on the Burnley goal line and scoring one of those goals with a simple nod of his head.
Burnley fans chorus rang out, we’re bottom of the league we’re bottom of the league and now you’re going to believe us…..

Pure class, a genuine goal machine with an uncanny knack for finding the back of the net.
Great on the telly too over the years with a sense of fun about him.
He was incredibly talented, such a shame he missed out on the world cup, that never seems fair somehow .
I think fans everywhere admired him as a footballer and rightly so.
Terribly sad news to hear this RIP Jimmy .

Very sorry to hear this today. A very talented footballer of his time who could finish better than Lineker but also a very quick dribbler. He always seems to score.
