The club behind the bus station was Savanaahs/ Chalkers, I think it was the old Lucas or some firms social club prior to this, used to have xnooker tables in one half before becoming a total club, some great lads night out in there after a couple of quick Australian white and cider in Yate`s

I'd have thought you'd be an " Annabella's " man ..... for the sophisticated crowd ! :D
You are right, I was, but the question was between the other two establishments.
I tended to alternate between Angels and Annabella's/Cats

Upstairs first, then downstairs if you failed on the pull, then off home if you failed again. (never happened to me of course).

Actually met Mrs Captain at Panama Joe's (if that was the one downstairs on Hammerton St).

It's a bit before my time but what sort of club was Angels before the rave scene took off in the 90s?

Only tried to get into the circ once and was turned away as I either had trainers on or no jacket, can't remember exactly...
A few of us got turned away from our local dive (not one in Burnley) and the doormen were adamant that this wasn't because we had crash helmets, so we returned the following week all smiling nicely and wearing dinner suits and bow ties but once again carrying the skid-lids; we got in, OK but we didn't 'win' as when we came to leave it was to discover that the helmets - which they insisted we checked - were full of beer, fag ends and assorted other crap that'd 'accidentally' fallen into them in the cloakroom

... Mecca in Burnley which had the same look as all the other Meccas.
Circ had that open plan layout and was quite plush...
As soon as Angels opened that was the place, taking club design to a new level...
I refitted a few nightclubs over the years - always on stage payments, paid in advance - and in the 'cold light of day' with few exception, they are absolute **** holes!
