Cornet needs to wake up, his tracking back and defensive duties have been so poor.

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Midfield are non existent Westwood and Cork way past it nowadays
Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Burnley far too casual. Playing like a practice game.
Wood cork and pope guilty
Pope not looking the same goalkeepers as last season.

This is really disappointing again.
Too many players are nowhere near the levels they need to be at.

Corner clarets
Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Just zero faith in this side every single time we take the lead. Might as well just go a goal down.
Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Steven Defour doesn't pass it back to Soton for the goal like Westwood did

How a foul wasn't given on Cornet there I don't know. He was pulled to the ground right in front of the lino.

Westwood and his daft pictures supping cups of tea. He’s playing like an old fart at a tea party this season.

We've done well to get to half time 1-1. Common Burnley.
That was never their corner at the end. Ref doing his best to give them another.

Can you imagine Lowton scoring a goal like that for us on a corner?
Livramento is only 18 and already offers more.

Collins and Tarks playing in the same space. Wood non existent and Corneth has to track back. Assume McNeil will go to left side to support Taylor

Burnley totally on top except for the last 10
Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
I struggle to believe one of the young lads (Phillips or Gomez-Mancini) would offer less than cork at this level… Should have been dragged off for the mis-control on the edge of the box with nobody around him.

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
don't understand our tactics this half. Get the goal after 20 mins, great. Why not just try & stifle the game, keep possession and in defence keep it 4-5-1 and let them play through us. Instead we press high, leave gaps wide open in midfield for them to break through and we are playing into their hands! We should be going in at least 2-1 down if not 3-1. We have had a couple of good chances too so probably just about even but very nervous and if we carry on like this we'll lose.

I think it's harsh to call out Wood. He's not had much service and he's covering for Cornet too
It's poor to concede like that though

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
I see no one has mentioned that Brownhill lost his man at the corner.
Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
It's called athletic decline, anyone could've pointed out Cork has lost his legs, Brownhill the jury is out and Westwood hasn't played well for a long time. We are seeing a slow weak poor midfield getting ripped to shreds every game, Westwood lacks ANY kind of composure just hoofs it anywhere and passes to the other team.

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Formation has been strangely fluid which is leaving us weak down our left. Brownhill goes up top out of possession and cornet goes up top in possession with brownhill dropping back and cork going left. Means we are often found very open when we lose the ball and they counter. Decent half but horrendous last ten.

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Yes, Cornet needs to track back and I'm sure Sean will tell him. At least he knows where the net is. Wood's only effort was going yards wide until it took a deflection.
Wood off, Vyds on I hope, but it won't happen. Don't know what Wood has to do to be dropped?

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Collins and Cornet both new to this level (forget internationals and Champions League, totally different tempo). It will take time, BUT we need to score goals so taking Cornet off is a huge risk while not ahead.
Got to expose those wing backs and vulnerability in the air. Personally I’d go Vydra for Cork and go 442. Give them something to worry about. Then if we go ahead for the last 15 we can bring Pieters on for Cornet.

Something needs to change, this is hardly a one off performance, this bl00dy framework thing we have to play to just isn't working or the players are just fed up with it.
As mentioned earlier Dyche really needs to freshen things up including his mindset.

Afraid to say Cornet either doesn't know or cba to defend which is leaving Taylor exposed.
Did the same when he got subbed off at half time last time.
Need to play 4 4 1 1 imo with Cornet on the pitch.

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
I don't think it's harsh at all. The way we play we rely heavily on him being an outlet to hold up the ball and bring others into play. He's largely been bullied by their defenders.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 3:52 pmI think it's harsh to call out Wood. He's not had much service and he's covering for Cornet too

It's certainly not the worse he's played this season though, he had a good chance deflected, he started the move with a knock on.
NBC taking the **** showing Blackburn Rovers premier win at half time. Rovers player Co commentating too.

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Said a few mins before the goal that we may need to sacrifice Cornet at half time. Clearly their equaliser changes that. I think we need to go 4-4-1-1 and play Cornet off Wood. Get Brownhill on the right and McNeil back on the left.
Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
Maybe mcneil no 10 brownhill right
Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
I think we can count ourselves very fortunate to be going in level.
I don’t know what’s gone on this year, but defensively we are useless.

Re: Southampton (a)- Match Thread
The framework method hasn't been on show this season, we've been as open as anything & can't see why.
Open the game as we did with Cornet & Brownhill & Dwight all supporting Wood, definitely.
But once we get the goal, calm the game down, get possession, out of possession get Brownhill deeper, cornet & dwight a bit further back (4-5-1) and let them break us down! Saints want only one thing, space to attack; we have given it to them & they should have at least 3/4 goals.
With Dwight & Cornet we have serious counter attacking threat. And I like them as they are; Dwight to cut it, giving space to Lowts to overlap, and cornet explout the space on the left
