Think being a burnley supporter means you support the club good times bad times and anything else what comes our way from a proud claret uptheclarets
And there's certainly been plenty of bad times since I started watching the clarets in the late 60s !

Just don't go on, why announce it on here? Are you about 12 years old? ginger hair and spots? No friends? lonely? The world is actually fckd. Lots of drama queens, lots of encouragement to become unmanly and to make every one think its normal. Go get out more

Good god, another “Look at me, look at me” thread. If you’re not going to go on anymore why do you feel the need to announce it? Society it fecked, it really is!!

sounds daft to me, we are in the top league, why would an rational supporter jump ship when the club are in the highest division there is ? I can understand similar sentiments when the team were floundering about in the old 4th div, but not thesedays.

Why is it ok to criticise the club, management and individual players but not ok to criticise those negative posters. Or are opinions only allowed to go one way?
The point being that the common rhetoric is normally based on questioning your loyalty to the club, and justifying your history with the club. It’s trying and it’s wearisome. The ‘we don’t want you if you disagree’ attitude of some posters is not fair when people just want debate or to air their view.

Currently our fan base is strongest with those who are 35-65, but as with the squad, as those age and move away who
the hell is going to replace them with the football or the experience that’s on offer now?

Kids in the 80’s and 90’s had little choice but to be indoctrinated into their fathers/mothers footballing religion. Nowadays for those who were 00’s and beyond there’s many, and far more successful competing brands/sports/experiences. The Americans understand this and are working to bring a competing package.

This board is a great indicator of where the club is currently and it seems where many want to stay.

Look forward to you posting under a different user name in the not-to-distant future.

On the point about new generations of supporters. Looking at the group I attend with, loads have started taking their kids (both boys and girls) on regularly over the last 3 years.

Until this dreadful hoofball stops.

We need a massive squad revamp ASAP the players we have aren’t good enough to play the system we try to play anymore, we have an ageing squad with players who can’t compete at this level anymore, last night was terrible we looked like a league 2 side at best.

There’s no doubt about it we will be in the Championship next season.

A full squad revamp and a change of style is needed. Fans can’t take this no more hence the decline in attendances.

This isn’t an over reaction it’s the truth. Anyone who says we don’t play hoofball is deluded the stats prove it.

I’m not spending my money watching that boring sack of rubbish again.

Miracles are needed, It was fun whilst it lasted.

I won't be going on on Saturday ...

Is it because of hoofball no

Is it because of poor squad no

Is it because of Sean Dyche no

Its because am off to Bradford with the wife and our friends to the theatre...

Will I be going to the next home game ...
TOO BLOODY RIGHT I WILL ...
Because I am a Burnley Supporter and thats what I do ...

I will be there thinking of those that can't go ... like my Brother who we said good-bye to at Skipton Crem today ...

To those shouting from the rooftops they can't be arsed because of "hoofball" "Dycheball" "lack of investment" etc thats your choice ...
but for f**ks sake just do it and stop shouting look at me ...

Thank - you and good night ...

Condolences Bosscat but exactly right

I can’t go nowadays, that will change though at some point, if I was in the area I would go to every game possible style of football is irrelevant to me. Not seen much this season but what I have seen and saw last season wasn’t that bad not the best but certainly not the worst.

I do feel a bit more detached from this current side to previous sides, but with results as they have been that’s hardly surprising.

I can’t be at the Turf on Saturday due to being in North Wales for my cousins wedding - and I’m bloody gutted by it.

I find it weird, personally, for any “I will not go again” posts when we are in the Premier League. We’re fighting relegation, what a shock! Haven’t we (really) been in one in all but two seasons in this league? Realistically we will forevermore until we eventually succumb to the inevitable - that’s life.

If you want sexy football and a consistent stream of results at this level, you support the wrong club. The football has been BETTER this season overall than it has been since about 2018. The fact that hasn’t translated into results is annoying, but that’s the way it is I’m afraid. We have had some mind numbing performances over our Premier League years, but have ragged a cheeky 1-0 here and there which has kept our heads above water, was that more entertaining to you? My point being that your sudden decision to step away I would guess is actually results driven and nothing to do with performances. Barring some very specific periods, we have never been exactly ‘good to watch’ under Dyche (at least not in the popular meaning of the term, football wise) so it’s interesting the straw that has broken the camels back for you is just when we are looking in very deep trouble, and not when we were securing a mid table finish playing even worse football than currently.

Could it be that rather than yearning for Burnley to start playing a more attractive brand of football, you actually are just quite lily livered and haven’t got the fight for the battle? Get yourself to Anfield - it’s more for you. I would imagine it won’t be the first time you’ve been there for a Non-Burnley game.

What should the club do, beg people like yourself and the OP to stick around when you clearly do not enjoy the product on offer (newsflash for you here by the way - it will not ever, ever get better than what you have just had for the last half a decade)?

I think older generations of fans need to realise that our young fan base have only seen a successful Burnley. It’s up to the club and the new owners to make it appealing.

If it is not going to get better then they will struggle.

My first game was 1992, I have only seen success. The odd relegation yes, but I have seen us go from Division Four to the Premier League with a few good Cup runs to boot.

I am 34 and would class myself as a young fan in the context of the median age of our crowd, why do I feel differently to you (someone that, judging by your username, is around 5 years younger than me)?

Becoming a Burnley fan is seldom choice, it’s a privilege/curse usually bestowed upon us by our elders. That will never change, young fans go on with their parents and that is no different now than to the 90s/00s/10s. Kids might have more techy distractions and far more football on TV, but I doubt there is a gigantic seismic shift going on between new young fans becoming Burnley fans now (as a Premier League/Possibly soon promotion chasing Championship club) than before (average at best Championship club).

Basically, a long winded way of me saying that if yourself or the OP wish to discard your support that is your prerogative and will not affect the club in the slightest.

I think football for the younger fans (for clarity I’m not really meaning our age, more 10-18 year olds) is considerably different now.

You can watch any Burnley game for free online, if the football is not appealing then people will simply not pay for it.

It certainly doesn’t help when other fans consistently tell them they should go support other clubs. Because more than likely they will do

Im the Orient generation, 1st year season ticket 1972.

My daughter is 26.

I have no time for Owen Coyle but she started going then and loved it, were season ticket holders (bank of dad).

I love going on with her.

I told her that no matter whats happens in your life the clarets will always be there. You can get in your car and go to a match.

People will always make grand statements but they will always come back for winning football.

Your either a claret or not. If you are you will go on the turf on or off.

Ive loved this period in our history, im still on the edge of my seat (and no i havent always been) but i dont really care if we get relegated.

We are always going to be at some point.

I believe we are a special club, and in my lifetime weve had tremendous ups and downs.

I believe the younger generation are like all generations.

Clarets.

Some will stay forever, some will come and go.

I dont believe we will ever be a bang average club like oldham, blackpool, birmingham etc.

What is the answer though? What other response should anyone have for someone who is on a Burnley message board saying “Oh I don’t want to go watch Burnley anymore”?

Again, you say the football isn’t appealing so why pay for it when you can stream it - that’s been the case by and large for Dyche’s entire tenure if I am to believe people on here. Apart from the 17/18 campaign when Defour was strutting his stuff, Dyche’s output has been very similar so I find it weird that losing 1-0 to Spurs in the Carabao Cup was the point that this became unbearable to watch.

There is genuinely nothing else you can say to someone who feels so strongly against what is being served up at Turf Moor. If you have lost your love of the club (which, really, is the reality - this isn’t supposed to sound like ‘super fan’ material because I can and have been incredibly negative myself on here at various times, but, I would never renounce my support. I’m stuck with the club and they are with me is pretty much my outlook) then it’s time to seek a new hobby or watch other teams.

What sets a Burnley Fan apart from any other fan in the Premier Leagues is that we have 1 every division apart from the 1 we are in, we have have gone through relegation and bounced back up, we have been 1 match away from dropping out of the football league, we have fought since that point in climbing the football pyramid back to the top table, with zero input from a rich owner. The team match the town from historical periods gone by in that we do the best wit what we have, LEGS, HEARTS MINDS,. in all this we have beaten all of the top tier, we "little old Burnley" beat Liverpool and ended there unbeaten run. So I am 47 and not what I would call an older generation but I appreciate where we have been and we are, my Son is 21 and he has only known us at the Championship and the top tier and is autistic but understands that a club of our size are over achieving, So to summarise, any Burnley football club fan is extremely lucky as all these club with billions about them will never understand the interpidation of relegation or lower league football and the fight for promotion, where as we have it all the time, as opposed to will we make top 4 and then crash out of Champions league.

Let’s be honest a lot of fans have a wobbler after bad results,(myself included). I don’t know the OP but I imagine he just had an outburst and will more than likely be either watching or attending Saturday. Because as you say it is engrained into fans.

The club has a challenge long term with young fans though, and fans like myself that live a distance away. I find it difficult to justify the expense of attending when I can watch every single game for free. I used to attend with a group of lads that lived in Newcastle, that group has rapidly declined (hence only attending 5 games this season)

The mad thing is we are a last minute marginal offside goal and a crazy penalty decision away from having 2 wins. We haven’t played as bad as some people make out granted i haven’t been on and will now to the people that have but what I have seen has been okay.

Every season this sort of thing fascinates me on here and on the Turf when I have been. Some fans can’t see beyond the final result. We lose and we are playing awful we win that was much better when in truth we haven’t played much different.

Exactly this...great post BC.

I hadn't previously been on the turf since Aberdeen at home. I stopped going after that season because that was our one chance to truly improve pur squad and attract a better type of player but yet again we hardly spent a penny. I have only started going on again, leceister away being my first game back due to my girlfriends son wanting to go on. subsequently Norwich at home and spurs at home are my latest two games attended. I have to say we are truly truly terrible we are definitely going down this season.

Surely we are all long suffering Burnley fans at the moment PTN but if we can pick up those elusive 2-3 wins before the year is out the new year will look a bit brighter.
I think it is more our throwing away of so many points rather than the style of football that is bothering you because that has never been good for most of Dyche’s PL reign.

This is certainly the year we drop for me. There isn’t 2 teams worse than us let alone 3.

The leagues moved on and we haven’t, promoted teams are better equipped than us we have stood still that long.

I don’t even think I care if we go down or not, that’s the worst thing. It’s so mind numbing watching us at the moment, feel like all my years of enthusiasm for supporting us have just been sucked out recently.

My condolences Bosscat. Great post.

I haven’t read the whole thread because I’m struggling to read this board recently. All the doom and gloom, the results and performances (last nights in particular) are getting to me, but picked up on yours because of all the likes.

But my perspective is that it’s clear Dyche is trying to evolve our style, that Pace is investing in some very good players - we’re just struggling to bring it all together after several years of under investment. It will come, eventually. I just hope it’s not too late. It’s times like these the club need us more than ever, so I’ll be there Saturday to lose my voice and endure some more mental torture.

Enjoy the theatre.

There's plenty on here who wish they could still go and can't. I see both sides but don't forget that when things aren't going so good is when the players need support the most, so it you can go and cheer them on then collectively it will help.

I'm very critical at times of our players and the club on here but it doesn't change my support for them, and the team. It's fine to be critical, but getting behind the lads is definitely needed right now if you can. Write what you will here, it doesn't matter.. but at the games get behind the team.

Because more than likely they will do
It certainly doesn’t help when other fans tell them it’s consistently rubbish, when the reality is that it’s good.

For reference this 10 year old started supporting in
The bottom division, and wasn’t making adult like decisions on the quality of the football. Just idolising Neil Grewcock and Ray Deakin, being overawed by the atmosphere and people swearing / shouting.

Ye of little faith… What a week to pack it in

You’ve just missed out on the best 45 minutes at home in the Premier League for years and ANOTHER Goal of the Season contender from Maxwel Cornet!

Up the Clarets :D

From this day forth, it's the new match day ritual and you're no longer allowed in (assuming we don't throw it away 2nd half)

We clearly have better luck when you're not there

Assuming we cruise to victory 2nd half, what on earth will people find to moan about tonight?

And now we're finally getting the goals our overall play has deserved, 5 in a game and a half now.

Well I for one would like to thank Mr Think neck for no longer attending. He has clearly done this for the team, knowing that his attendance has been a hex on the team.
Thank you for making the sacrifice.
If we could now put a checkpoint around the Tim Bobbin area and allow nobody with a thick neck passed on match days please.
