Looking at the last 4 in that list, EH had better hope he can muster a good number of points in his first 4 games, otherwise he might not be at Newcastle when the January window opens.

And he really needs to hot the ground running as everyone knows he wasn't their first choice.

Strange appointment in my view, and even if Eddie does keep Newcastle in the PL, I still have major doubts that he'll be their manager come next season, he's merely keeping the seat warm until they can appoint a big name gaffer.

Eddie needs 6 pts from those 4 games. Minimum. 3 pts or less and he is in deep doo-doo. Massive opportunity for us (we have other winnable games coming up so not the same).

I think he will get those pts due to the initial bounce and key players fit. But he isn’t a top manager.

Pros of appointing him:
1. Attacking football, goals, energising
2. An affable face for an unaffable regime
3. Will bond with the players (maybe not Fraser)

Cons:
1. Has always shipped goals so logic suggests NUFC will need to score a lot
2. Not a disciplinarian, which may cost him at NUFC because he isn’t the same “big cheese” he was at AFCB
3. Likely to see the fans turn quickly if results don't go his way

But he only needs to finish above 3 clubs. Not too tricky.

Always loved Bruce's negativity and his "hang-dog" look ;)

No matter how tactically astute Howe is, no matter how good a coach he is, no matter how good a man manager he is, there is also no doubt he can see talent in a player, look at what he brought in for us he still just reminds me of Eoin McLove from Father Ted https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bJwFOAyTkZ8

I’m pretty sure that Eddie Howe will have negotiated and agreed a contact that ensures his involvement in the January window.

The Newcastle fans have already written off this season and their only demand is for PL survival, regardless of the style of play.
The new manager will have Tarkowski high on his list and will see him as a quick fix for Newcastle’s defensive problems. Tarks has vast experience in playing for the master of defensive strategies and in my opinion the new Newcastle manager will see him as a leader and training coach into Newcastle’s Burnleyesque performances for the remaining games this season.

Tarkowski would be mad to go there. I like Eddie Howe but he will get them relegated. In fact, I will give him until March when I guarantee he will be gone.

If relegation does happen EH will be a factor, the facts are 11 games have already been played yielding 5pts from a maximum of 33 it’s wrong to apportion blame from the start, I expect Newcastle to now improve whether that’s enough depends on January & EH overall impact.

Not a good start for Eddie and the Geordies. Can you get the "new manager bounce" without the new manager there?

What a great thread to highlight how clueless so many posters on here are. I'd pick out a few of the most idiotic post but there's just too many to choose from.

As per usual there's a few of us who talk sense and aren't full of cliché's and/or blinded by our Burnley bias

I’ve no idea how the pair will do as the season gets deeper ,but though I rate both , the sheer money /players at their fingertips etc can blur ability for quite some time . Sadly if either had a 5 game lose/draw streak the knives would be out and ready.

money doesn't guarantee shite, especially in the PL where there are way bigger spenders than Newcastle. Howe hasn't spent a fortune either.
Today's starting 11:

Pope £10m
Trippier £10m Botman £30m, Schar (already there), Burn £7m
Longstaff Joelinton (already there) Bruno £35m
Almiron Wilson Willock (already there)

£90m ish, in a league where teams spend that on 1 player. I know there's others like Wood and Isak who didn't play but fair play to Howe, his best work has been transforming the players already there and adding excellent smart signings like Burn, Trippier and Pope for less than £30m combined.

Players who were ordinary under Bruce have been rejuvenated under Howe - Joelinton, Almiron mainly - a sign of a very good coach. Having money guarantees nothing. Most of his signings have improved the team, not least Pope, Trippier, Burn, Guimares, Botman. It’s also notable how much he’s improved his defensive side as a coach. Top manager but I do fear the Saudis will pot him for a ‘glamour’ name when they can as this isn’t about football for them but PR.

No doubt that Howe’s doing well. He deserves his plaudits. Fair play!

No mention of money though. But each to their own. I based my assessment on where they were then and I stand by it. I also bases it on what I have been told about him as a person around the training ground. Bruce maybe at the end but he’s done ok. Bruce was barely given a penny.

Ps. Nope, I know bugger all about football 😂

But back to the point…fair play Eddie Howe 👍🏻

Common myth that Bruce had no money to spend. Joelinton, Wilson, Saint-Maximin, Lewis, Willock - all big money.

Doing a fantastic job now he’s sorted out his teams defensive naivety out. Has a great eye for players too. Knows how to play entertaining stuff.
