Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Tarkowski and Westwood both banned for one game (the Spurs game) after today's yellow cards - is that correct ?
Brownhill on 4 yellows.

I guess so we don't exactly have any other viable options do we, and this yet again highlights our lack of depth when the inevitable injuries and suspensions begin to bite. Something we could do with rectifying in January, or if not Jan then the summer window.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 8:23 pmYes. Both miss the spurs game.

Looking at the number of OOC players in the summer, I think several new additions are inevitable.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 8:28 pmI guess so we don't exactly have any other viable options do we, and this yet again highlights our lack of depth when the inevitable injuries and suspensions begin to bite. Yes there will be some turnover of players, how many may well depend on what division we are competing in next season, but there's a few high earners that we could really do with moving on once their contracts end.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 8:31 pmLooking at the number of OOC players in the summer, I think several new additions are inevitable.

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Only themselves to blame. I can almost live with a yellow for a tackle however not for arguing or kicking the ball away.In over 60 years of watching football I have never seen a ref change his decision through a player shouting or arguing at them. Lack of discipline should almost be punished as it could cost us survival

Compounds the crass decision of Mr Hooper to book Tarks for trying to help Zaha

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Lowton was partly to blame for the Tarks yellow. Think he took a bit of a handbags style swing at Zaha around the side of Tarks body and when Zaha reacted he ended up in a tangle with Tarks instead.
If yellows were to be dished out it should have been Zaha and Lowts to get them as Tarks didn't do owt but get caught in the middle

Collins I have no concerns about he's shown in his brief time at Burnley that he's perfectly capable of making the step up to the PL.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 8:46 pmIf anything it shows our depth? Like for like to some extent?
Cork just looks past his best I'm afraid whenever he's played in recent times, and we definitely need a young box-to-box midfielder sooner rather than later, preferably one who can chip in with the odd goal or two as well, which has been sorely lacking from any of our midfielders in recent seasons.
Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Can't we get Roberts in the team, can he play midfield ?

There isnt for yellow cards unless you want to widen the remit of VAR to cover every yellow card decision?duncandisorderly wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 9:48 pmIf only there was a video referral system that could clear that up.

I know it isn't used for that, but there is a video referral system in use that could've cleared that up, were that its remit. That's all.

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Unfortunately a yellow can only be reviewed for mistaken identity - that was an absolute nonsense of a decisionDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 8:46 pmLowton was partly to blame for the Tarks yellow. Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
You say unfortunately but after reading your views on VAR I wouldn't have thought you would want games to potentially get stopped/slowed down for any yellow card decision that was contentious.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 10:04 pmUnfortunately a yellow can only be reviewed for mistaken identity - that was an absolute nonsense of a decision
Had it been reviewed I suspect that Lowton would have got a yellow card instead of Tarks but for the benefit of the overall game I think we are better trying to leave as much refereeing as we can to the on field ref and accept that they get things wrong

Really, how strange he wasn’t on the bench then today.
Probably carrying a strain or something similar.

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
I wouldn’t agree with stopping the game to review yellows but you should be able to appeal post-match. This ticks me off even more if a second yellow leads to a red and because it is two yellows you have no right of appeal. It is the red card you are appealing and the two yellows are just elements of the final decision.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 10:10 pmYou say unfortunately but after reading your views on VAR I wouldn't have thought you would want games to potentially get stopped/slowed down for any yellow card decision that was contentious.

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Roberts will get his chance sooner rather than later hopefully as we need more energy down the right to get out of the relegation places.
Central Midfield is a real problem and Westwood will be a miss against Spurs. Brownhill has no presence.
I won’t have many agreeing with me but I hope Stephens gets back to full fitness as I believe a lean Stephens will offer us more .
Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
The only thing you can appeal against mistaken identity. It's a very long shot, but could they appeal on the grounds that it was Lowton that the ref meant to book and he picked out the wrong man? If nothing else, it would make a point, if the ref was forced to look at what Lowton did and what Tarkowski did and say yes, it was Tarkowski who did wrong.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 11:38 pmI wouldn’t agree with stopping the game to review yellows but you should be able to appeal post-match. Nonsense,he broke down countless moves in midfield and was instrumental in us salvaging a point when things look bleak at 2-3
Josh has been a great signing but I am afraid Jack Cork has had his day.

If Collins did really well against Spurs could you see Dyche keeping Tarks on the bench ?

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Yes Woodley , I agree he did well holding the ball up for Gudmundsson to swing in the cross for the final equaliser.
I disagree though that he has been a great signing on his performances since he signed for us
To have a presence surely you need to be noticed and while he is good at intercepting , what does he consistently do with the ball then ?

Missing the Spurs game and being available for Newcastle. I don't think any tears will be shed.

Can clubs still challenge red/yellow cards ? If so we should certainly try and get Tarks card overturned

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Highlights of Brownhills game.
He completed 15 passes in 90 minutes at home against a team we need to be aiming to beat.
He made 1 tackle and 1 interception.
There are still people like woodley that defend him. He’s a good grafter but that is it.
Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Cork no longer has the legs to play in a midfield 2. Neither him nor Brownhill have the progressive passing ability of Westwood.
I honestly would consider bringing in Roberts at right back and moving Lowton into midfield alongside Brownhill as the solution for one game. Long term we need a player who can also provide the same passing output as Westwood either to play alongside him or replace him. Gustavo Hamer or Mathias Normann would be my picks.

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
Brownhill’s passing infuriates me - so often it’s to the player but a yard or two short of where it needs to be, which then slows down any momentum.
I know that Cork has his doubters, he’s certainly not been up to his usual high standards when we’ve seen him this season, but where he is head and shoulders above Brownhill is his intelligence on the ball.

Still of Zaha raising his hands to Lowton, luckily for him Tarky holds him back.

Re: Tarkowski and Westwood banned ?
What ever stats are thrown up about our CM will be sad reading. For me Westwood is the only one that can "live" in the PL. Brownhill is the pick of a bad bunch, as Cork's legs have gone and he is so easily dispossessed. At least Brownhill will give you 100% in both ground and aerial challenges. We are snookered thanks to previous owners-Cork & Westwood were both bought almost 5 years ago and Brownhill almost 2 years ago. That is the sum of our CM investment unless you count Stephens. We have done amazingly well to get as much out of Cork and Westwood that we have, but our defense is now being less protected than 3-4 seasons agoNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 12:12 pmHighlights of Brownhills game.
