Sad news, only Mickey Dolenz now surviving the Monkees. I liked the Monkees, Last train to Clarksville was a favourite. RIP Michael Nesmith.

Very sad news, especially as mentioned now only one Monkee left. Love em or not, they were a huge part of growing up for us of a certain age and were actually far more talented and accomplished than most people thought or give credit for. "I'm a Believer" is a "pop" ditty which has become a true classic and which has stood the test of time. As have many of their other songs.

Sad news indeed. Whether or not they actually played / sang on the tracks attributed to them some of The Monkees songs are absolute classics of the time. Daydream Believer and I'm a believer both brilliant.

Aside from the sad news, is 'liquid paper' an East Lancs thing? I remember working in other parts of the UK and no-one having a clue what it was! "You mean Tippex" was the usual response after i had explained it.

A sad day. The Monkeys were very a important part of my early teenage. I liked Mike Nesmith particularly.
I remember his guitar playing on 'Valleri'. Because they were not allowed to play their own instruments on the recordings, owing to filming schedules, during the show clip, he has his tie over the strings, while the music is playing his guitar solo (a super solo). His protest, obviously.

'What am I doing hanging round' remains a favourite.
I have all the Monkeys LPs except Head and Mike's first solo album.

Very sad. The fact that him and Mickey did a tour not long ago, suggests they knew it was the end. One last tour for the lads.

I like the monkees, my sister was keen on Davey Jones of Corro fame. I liked Mickey Dolenz, who also happened to be Circus Boy, for the members who are ancient (it was on telly before tellys were invented).
I understood that Neil Diamond wrote most of their music, before he found fame for himself.

His solo LP after 18 years away Tropical Campfires is a lovely album. It has a semi-instrumental in the middle called One… which has the catchiest little guitar riff that’ll be in your head for years.

Sad news, another part of my childhood gone, used to love watching The Monkees TV show in the late 60's.

Was a bit star struck when I met one (also sadly departed) Monkee, Peter Tork, when he did a random gig at the now defunkt Sun Inn up Harle Syke many years ago!

As others have said a big part of my childhood with the Monkees show on TV every morning during the school holidays.Its been a bit of a bad week in the music world with Robbie Shakespeare of Sly and Robbie fame the Rhythm section from countless Reggae records and also Mensi the lead singer of second wave Punk band Angelic Upstarts

I enjoyed The Monkees 'cos I was a certain age then but musically I liked a lot of Nesmith's stuff, particularly as he often used pedal steel guitar. He produced albums for others too, notably one for my favourite singer (Iain Matthews, Valley Hi) which yielded some good songs. He also produced a Bert Jansch album and played bass on it. Loved watching this show as a kid. Think they were reruns by then. Particularly liked Nesmith and Tork. Great memories from a great era.
