7 League wins in 2021. Only 2 at home.

Post by Socrates » Sat Dec 18, 2021 9:04 am

Is that right? I’ve gone through the fixtures and that’s how I get it.

Fairly stark stats those. Shows how tough a year it’s been.

It is correct.

I have personally not seen Burnley win at Turf Moor in 2021 (was ill when we played Villa, was at a wedding when we beat Brentford).

Robert Lewandoski has scored more goals than we have this year.

It makes grim reading doesn't it, thankfully we are still in touch, and have time left to rectify our situation.

However if we are to survive our form at TM will need to improve, that said it is slowly getting better, last 4 at home we've won 1 and drawn 3, so it's just a case of turning the draws into wins that's been a persistent problem.

Im not making this an excuse but for some really bad officiating decisions and I really mean that the home wins would be much greater.

True.
And, it has to be said, better finishing.

Whilst your not wrong in a sense but the view is with claret tinted specs. How many times has Pope pulled off a save, or the opposing team missed the target or the likes of Taylor put in a last ditch tackle/ block?

We aren’t playing much differently from usual it’s just that we are on the wrong side of the important moments. We aren’t set up to play any other way and don’t have the quality to change anything when it’s going against us.

We could quite easily steal a few wins and scrape survival but we are way beyond a squad rebuild now.

Shocking results over 12 months. It’s not a dip in form, we’ve been a bad side for ages now. If we don’t win the next 2 or 3 then serious questions need to be asked

I don’t think it’s fair to lay much blame at the feet of SD. He has had his hands tied financially as we know, while those around us added to their ranks over the last few windows.
Signs of signings to improve us are promising if we are looking at the quality of the likes Cornet.

Keep the faith folks. UTC

As shocking a stat as it is and for all the bed wetting and doom mongering on here you would think we were marooned at the bottom of the league with that record. In fact we have a great chance and will most likely stay up yet again.

I think a proportion of the blame has to be aimed at Dyche. He’s the one that has kept so many ageing players (publicly demanding the old owners offered them contracts). Similarly he’s also wasted a wage on resigning Lennon.

Let’s see what happens, he’s got half a season to turn it all around

Overachieved? Perhaps, but at the cost of not rejuvenating the squad, the choices of who we've signed and handed extended contracts to have been his.
However, the buck stops with the board.

Yes - overachieved...no perhaps about it. Of course he's responsible for the squads he has assembled within the constraints set by the Board. That's why that is not exclusively down to Dyche.

Newcastle have conceded 79 league goals in this calendar year. The joint most ever.

We just felt sorry for them and didn't want to make it worse😆

I would say our two top ten finishes were over achieving.

Staying in the prem is just achieving.

Relegation is under achieving

I wasn't commenting on the 6 seasons, merely the last 12 months. I don't think SD has done very well during this period because 7 wins a year (excluding easy cup games won) is not what I would call overachievement.

Our run of form is dreadful and it’s not been good for 12 months. Dyche hasn’t been helped by repeated poor windows though. We had such a weak squad at the beginning of last season ( down to Garlick) that I don’t think another manager could have done better with it. This window we signed Lennon and Roberts who hasn’t played. Cornet of course looks good but it’s one player only to have impacted the team. Dyche should be questioned but for me the games are tight and we are not been thrashed. Think a couple of decent players ( midfield /striker) could sort us out until Summer.

Remaining in this league continues to be overachieving. If that's with 38 draws, 12 wins, or a mix of them, it remains the same in my mind.

Both Wolves & Fulham have riches beyond our wildest dreams, Hull got in via finishing runners-up in the FA Cup. and both Leeds & Ipswich competed at a time when there was little money in football in comparison to today.

I’m just not sure how anything can be deemed the best achievement when we didn’t win anything.

It was fantastic but we didn’t win anything

I don't think if we finished 7th in the champions league it would class as the greatest achievement in modern football.
Certainly not by anyone from outside Burnley.

Remaining in this league continues to be overachieving. If that's with 38 draws, 12 wins, or a mix of them, it remains the same in my mind.
Precisely! and it seems some posters can't see the cracking job SD has done and continues to do, yes we'd all like to improve our home form, but we're 1 win away from climbing out of the relegation zone, and our recent form is much more encouraging, and suggests that we will yet again defy the odds and remain in the PL.

I'm not sure that's a fair analysis of opinions on this thread.
I think most of us agree SD has done a good job, the problem is some believe he is better than good, and they will go to any lengths to try to prove it.

A "good " job. It's far more than that. Overachieving doesn't really come close
