But then a pay cut if relegation definitely would. It might be time to have a couple of new signings that don't have pay cuts if relegation and if will give us a good chance of coming back up

Really surprised we haven't took Jed Wallace for £1m or whatever, out of contract in the summer and reportedly Besiktas interested in a pre contract. He can't be much worse than JBG, small fee.

Bournemouth probably matched what we offered as they can afford to. Christie was never going to be offered the same salary as other players anyway.Sleeping Cat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 10:38 amLike Christie from Celtic who chose to go to Bournemouth instead?
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Any potential new signing must decide if they think that they have a good chance of (almost) immediate first team football. ‘Am I better than xxxxxxx who is currently playing in Burnley’s central midfield?’.
Another very important question for a potential signee is ‘Can I survive the East Lancashire climate for a few years?’. 🌧

So salary the same, but in the division below. He chose to go to Bournemouth because they play in a way that suits him more.

Which in itself is a perceived reputation about the club. If player don't want to come because they think we could realistically go down, that's a reflection of the state of the club, team, tactics etc.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 11:01 amPerhaps he felt that long term, he had more chance of playing in the Premier League
Worth pointing out that Christie turned us down last summer when no one was tipping us for relegation. Everyone just presumed we would battle through to survival, which we might still do. It's also worth saying we were able to sign Cornet from Lyon which means not everyone is put off by our rep, but some will be.

I'd say it probably easier to convince a foreign player to come to us currently. Like of cornet may see it as a chance to get into England and then move if the perform

Agree. He’d be a present upgrade on JBG but also is a very decent Champ player (stats for an average Millwall side are very good) in the likely event we are playing there next season.

He probably failed Sean’s personality test. Also we can only sign players who have a nickname ending in Y. Popey, Barnesy, Westy, Corky, Browny, Woodsy…. Jeddy doesn’t work.

One of the most important criteria in football. Problem is that there is much competition to sign those players!
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
He's done a couple of levels for his coaching badges, I read somewhere, as has MeeCheshireclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 12:35 pmWe don’t need a right back as a priority, and certainly don’t need one at £12m plus a six-figure weekly salary - money we can’t afford.
Roberts has been signed as the longer-term replacement for Lowton and whilst we’re on right backs, I really hope Bardo stays at the club in a coaching role. I watch the warm ups and he seems to be a very popular guy and is always willing to assist with a drill or two to help the starting XI. There’s certainly something about his demeanour and approach within the squad that I think is worth keeping hold of when he decides his playing days are over.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
This window is really going to be a difficult one
Summer saw Cornet, who (barring some injury issues) has been a breath of fresh air with an eye for the goal. Yet, when we are losing to Leeds, Dyche brings on one of his older/struggling strikers up front and proceeds to switch Cornet to wide left - he's got far less chance of scoring from there !!
Of the other two, Collins plays as cover for injuries to Tarks or Mee and as for Roberts - is he injured, ill, not fit or just another Vydra/Gibson
The way I see it Dyche will stay on his well trodden path and only be looking for experienced players to play in this coming relegation battle
So. he will be looking for the likes of a Ramsey, Mata, Matic or Jones (as examples) whereas the recruitment team are seemingly now looking in a different market for younger guys with potential - our three summer signings would appear to bare this out
I appreciate the suggestions from many on this thread about potential targets but few have had the necessary experience we are going to need over the coming months
So what chance can everyone get together, on the same wavelength, to strengthen our central midfield because that area will cost us our Prem status if not improved

This has been the case for the last two years and was the main reason we never signed any of the people scouted and recommended by Rigg and his team. Dyche has always wanted seasoned players who give him the best chance of staying up, staying in a job and keeping his reputation high. Signing potential might not impact the first team immediately and he could be sacked if the first team is weak and unable to get results. The difference last summer, new owners and the contract situation meant he had to give more than he did previously.

...and I cannot think of another manager in the PL who after one win in 19 games, and with a series of stupid goals given away this season (at times by both Mee & Tarkowski), that he is not prepared to now play Collins who in 4 PL games was outstanding, and one of the teams played being Man City. If I am not mistaken he was either MOM or close in all four starts. When you consider one of these two CH's is virtually away in June and the other has been stalling since the start of the season on signing a new contract, its even more incrediblejojomk1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 3:25 pmThis window is really going to be a difficult one

It's just the way Dyche operates - hence an aged, slow squad
Get Jones in on loan and squeeze Newcastle for every penny to let Tarks go

Talking of players John Souttar from hearts. 25 year old Scottish international centre back who is out of contract in the summer. Could pick him up for peanuts. Our last Scottish international centre back wasn’t bad.

Divock Origi leaving Liverpool. Wanted by 3 Italian clubs but would prefer to stay in PL. OOC in Summer. Fee should be reasonable, wages possibly not. Would be superb for us.

At that fee it would be a good buy. Just not sure we can afford the wages.

Souttar's a great shout been really impressive for Hearts and Scotland recently, I didn't know he was OOC, definitely worth a punt at a smallish fee and wages.
And at 25 he's arguably in his prime, exactly the type we should be poaching if we can.

Indeed it would be.
But we can only truly judge our window at the end of January, and who knows maybe Pace will yet pull a few rabbits out of a hat, he did with Cornet didn't he, so we'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Makes sense in our current plight, however we don't exactly have a great history with loanees do we, the last successful ones I can recall are Keane or Kightly and they were both in the Championship.

I’m not saying loans can’t work, but we’d have to be bloody sure that it was players who are going to give their all for the cause.
Loan to buy could be more of a carrot.

I would suggest that it shows the club can understand the reticence to sign for a club in our position and allows for results to dictate the permanent transfer once the season is done.

Loan with an open to buy would be ideal. No obligation but a chance for the player in question to put themselves in the shop window as Lingard did last year with West Ham, however he made the wrong decision to stay with United afterward.
Who will be available ? And who will be willing to come?
Not many from the top clubs in England I’d imagine with covid looming and Swiss being utilised -
Lingard
Barkley
Van de Beek
Origi
Nketiah
Would we really loan anyone from abroad who’s an unknown quantity ? I doubt it
