I’ve not read the whole thread, but if the buying club triggers a clause in a players contract, that means the club and the player must be happy with the deal as that was the arrangement when the player and the club agreed on the initial terms

We should play better football without him. Just need to get other strikers scoring.

it's a strange signing for Newcastle, Eddie doesn't usually (from memory) play with a big lad up front

If wood goes I bet Dyche will still pick him on the team sheet for our next game and still won’t want to drop him

Seems to be conflicting reports on that point. Some Leeds journos saying there was no sell on.

How are people saying he has been a "disgrace".... a disgrace??? Really??

Alright he's been poor this season but let's not forget he has kept us up previously and bagged a good amount for us over his time here in a team that doesn't create many chances. It wouldn't mattrer what striker we've had this season, our service has been so bad that anyone would have lost confidence and become frustrated by hoofball. He'll score a few at Newcastle and I hope he does well for them (not to our detriment obviously)

Any sell on will be on the profit made, we paid 15m, if we sell for 25m, then it will be a percentage of 10m.

Surely Newcastle don't see Wood as their striker long term. It's a deliberate ploy to **** us over. I hope he co tibues not to score for them

Trouble is (as someone else said) not sure if we can bring I a replacement.

Still here's Vydras chance to shine- let's see if he's as good as plenty on here think he is.

Worrying times

He’s been a disgrace this season. Unfortunately his previous goals don’t count this year. This season he’s done nothing apart from miss sitters, get bullied off the ball and look like the wimpiest 6’3 man in the world, and shown he’s lost 2 yards of pace

An awful lot of nonsense being spoken about Chris Wood some of it on Sky Sport's Transfer Show when one of the presenters remarked "And let's not forget the effect this will have on Maxwell Cornet, who is away on AFCON duties, who provided the perfect foil for Cornet and they worked so well together". So I looked up the Stats for Chris Wood this season 3 goals and ZERO Assists.

I just don’t see how selling your main source of goals for the last four years to a relegation rival can be seen as good news. It’s basically sounding the death knell IMO.

However if we’ve suitable replacement(s) lined up I’m more than happy to eat humble pie. I just can’t see it in this January market.

Good news? No. End of the world? Also no. Wood hasn't been our main source of goals this season and hasn't contributed much else either.

This is an opportunity to freshen things up, for someone different to come in or for one of our other forwards to step up.

Make no mistake, Chris Wood has been excellent for us but he's clearly moved on quickly and we need to do the same.

I don’t think it really weakens the team but it potentially strengthens our transfer window a huge amount.

A lot of recency bias in this thread.
Poor this season, yes, but our 10th top goalscorer of all time and definitely the top in my lifetime and many others here.
We've seen off many teams over the last four season simply because whilst they played ok they didn't have a striker who could consistently net 12 goals a season.
If he can do that for Newcastle for one or two more season in this league they will have got exactly what they were looking for.

That said, with our contract and age situation we're trying to fix a plane whilst in the air so this may allow us some funds to at least attempt it.

He’s been absolutely disgraceful this season so don’t worry about it too much. Lennon was better up front and he’s a 34 year old winger. Might allow us to build the squad up a bit as well.

We’ve been here before though haven’t we. Remember when we sold a certain Austin at start of the season, as I recall it didn’t work out too shabby.
Reported as 25m on SSN this evening, even if it is 20m in my eyes it doesn’t make a lot of difference. Wood has been a good signing for us but this year he’s hardly set the world alight.
Let’s see if they bring in a replacement, you’d think they must bring someone in, before panicking too much.
If can bring someone of similar quality to a certain Mr Cornet, it could be just what we need to give everyone a boost.

Let’s just see what happens. I don’t think it’s quite the end of the world some think it is…..

I won’t lie, I’m disappointed, but maybe this is the crossroads we’ve needed to get to, to force some change. It’s now an opportunity for Dyche to develop a new style of play in the final third. Wood has been brilliant for us since signing. His defensive work (especially on corners) will be dearly missed. A vastly underrated player going to a rival is a kick in the southerlies. Time for us to press on!

So here is a list of our current strikers

Cornet. Currently unavailable
JRod.
Vydra awaiting hernia operation
Barnes Injured
Mellon injured

So I assume it will be JRod and Kevin Long upfront on Saturday

Unless someone comes in very quickly, a change of formation may not be an option.

The second half on Saturday proved that.

If Fulgini is a target I believe he's away at AFCON too so there will be no formation change against Leicester or Watford. It will be Long up front, Pieters left wing, Bardsley in the middle and whoever is available in the crowd amongst the substitutes !

If Fulgini is a target I believe he's away at AFCON too so there will be no formation change against Leicester or Watford. It will be Long up front, Pieters left wing, Bardsley in the middle and whoever is available in the crowd amongst the substitutes !
He's French isn't he?

Seriously, Wood won't be missed. Tell me what he offers.

Wait and see. We are better off without him.
He offers amongst the best stats in the PL as seen on Sky Sports, more PL goals this season than JayRod, Barnes and Vydra and at least an option to play up front against Leicester and Watford as we will only have one fit striker available striker if he goes. (Jayrod by the way - absolutely banging them in the PL this season NOT )
