It is, apparently, the third highest fee ever paid for a striker aged 30 or older. I did start trying to think about other examples but found it on Transfermarkt which is pretty accurate in this field.

Only Ronaldo and Batistuta cost more after 30. Ronaldo massively so when going from Real to Juve and Batistuta is too long ago for the fee to be relevant. There must be a lot of players who, in real terms, cost more than Wood but apparently none recently. Odd.

Wood joins Newcastle “at crucial time” - Only Ronaldo & Batistuta more expensive in age group

"Newcastle have completed the signing of Chris Wood. The 30-year-old centre-forward joins from Burnley and signs a contract for two and a half years. Already next weekend, the new signing is eligible to play in the Premier League, the newly rich Magpies announced."

Unlikely to set an hattrick in a more sinister statistic did the other 2 selling clubs boast a relegation post sale?

I feel that if we can survive this season then better things will be coming our way. We must stay up.

As the weeks gone on, I’ve actually felt more positive about us fighting to stay up.

Same a couple of seasons ago, we look dead and lost against Liverpool but Bardsley put a huge tackle in and it felt like the whole club was fighting again.

If we can form the nucleus for life in the Championship kid I don’t think relegation will be the disaster you think.
The focus is on the ambition of the new owners for BFC

Talk of Andy Carroll - Please no. Next it will be a Crouch return.

Newcastle are doomed. Wood will make sure of this. They won’t start lumping the ball up from every direction. If they play it into feet he is crap as he couldn’t trap a bag of wind. I have had conversations with lads from Newcastle this week and they admit they are worse than us and Wood will not change this as the rest of the team is garbage. Trippier obviously not included but the team itself collectively is apparently very poor in there opinion not mine.

All that being said all bottom 5 teams currently are very poor.
