If we are going to play Maxwell up front, then we really need a winger, rather than a striker, but it would be nice to think we could manage to get more than one in

Talksport reporting that Bournemouth have bid £2million for Joe Rothwell at Rovers and rovers are considering it…. Dirt cheap if true.

It would be very unBurnley-like to get 3 players in so late in the day but this time I actually think it's a must. We needed a couple in before Wood left so, with so many fixtures left to play and a busy schedule, the need for fresh faces to lift both the fanbase and the players, I think we probably need to take a risk or two and pray we don't manage to get the next Freddie Nimani through the door.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:50 amIf we are going to play Maxwell up front, then we really need a winger, rather than a striker, but it would be nice to think we could manage to get more than one in

Rothwell out of contract in the summer. Just seen Bournemouths bid has been turned down and is nowhere near what they want. Agree Buckley looks a talent but no chance they sell to us.

Tbh I’d take Hendricks on a loan as things stand. And I never thought I’d say that.
But if he ends up at Boro in the Championship, what a waste of a PL career in the pursuit of money.

Is it just me or is there no follow up on any of these links. We get an initial link with an asking price or even a supposed offer and then diddly.
Lorient are quoted as wanting 10m euros for Lauriente which is a bit like us wanting 20m for Tarkowski, if someone is prepared to pay silly money then let them have him. Lauriente is one of three sons of an ex-player who are all obsessed with free kicks. He's scored 4 free kicks this season and provided 0 assists and 3 crosses. He's played just 49 senior appearances in the French first division. Apparently he was a late developer and he's a shy lad which has meant it's taken him time to take over free kick responsibilities for his team. ALK may have found him due to some data analytics that no-one else has picked up on but he sounds like an expensive gamble for me.

Why do I find this funny that the 3 sons are obsessed with free kicks.
In all seriousness I think he looks a decent gamble because of his obvious pace, combined with obviously good technical ability to hit free kicks like he does. Also, we could give a good platform for a shy lad to perform if that is true.

Just seen that Newcastle have offered a €12m a year contract to the Arsenal target Vlahovic. He looks to be going to Juve for €65m but that is big wages.
Arsenal offered €5m with €2m bonuses.

Agree with this. 0 assists and 0 goals from open play is a bit of a concern seen as though that’s what we are lacking.dibraidio wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 11:25 amIs it just me or is there no follow up on any of these links. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that AI scout isn't the only reason we are interested in him
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Looking at the data for Lauriente what we probably like is that he plays across the front and works hard defensively. He's an unpredictable dribbler and creates a lot of chances for his team by carrying the ball. His end product isn't the best but you could overlook that if he brought a few freekick goals a season. Weak in the air.
I would think if we're looking at him it's probably with a view to switching to a 4-2-3-1. A central striker (like the linked Guirassy) with Cornet/Lauriente/McNeil either side with a creative number 10 behind (maybe McNeil if we don't sign one?). I'm not sure he'd fit a flat 4-4-2.

We could do worse than get Jeff back on loan, with the amount of games we will be playing in a week. As we know can play CM , No 10 or RM but I think even as a CM he is better than Cork and Stephens, and a better ball retainer than Josh. He also knows the system at Burnley

Why the panic ?
From the day the window opened it was always going to be quiet until the last week. WE don't play a game until almost a week after the window has closed.

Yes I am-suspect I am not the only fan panicking .Simply based on the last 5-6 windows, in our ability to strengthen the first 11., particularly if you consider we are down to one fit striker (if you exclude Cornet)claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 12:17 pmI asked now because you said you were already in a panic

and you're ******* stupid using Ryan Christie as proof we prioritised a CM, a man who's never played in a midfield two in his life and currently plays left midfield for Bournemouth.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 7:40 pmYou know what I meant. You'd argue black is white, he's not a central midfield player in a 2 and never has been.
''With five assists in 15 games - six if we are counting the shot that led to Dominic Solanke's goal at Stoke - Christie has been able to adapt to whatever is asked of him by Parker. Since arriving on Deadline Day, the former Celtic player has played in three different positions and his most accustomed role - wide on the right - has been tweaked several times. A case in point came at the weekend against Coventry, where Parker's employment of wing backs meant Christie essentially became a number 10.
"I think me and the gaffer spoke even before joining and he said he saw me on the wing and in midfield," he tells DorsetLive. "I'm happy with that. I prefer anywhere across the frontline.
"I think it is something that's definitely going to help me throughout my career, kind of having a wee bit of versatility in my game. As long as I'm on the park and as far away from our goal as possible then I'm happy!"

I don't need to argue black is white, I just proved that we tried to sign a player who can play across midfield, including centrally, something you've stated we didn't do.
It was easy enough, have a good day

He’s older (29) than Cornet but I’d say a very similar calibre. Was voted in last seasons Europa League team of the year. I’d say something similar to Cornet is the amount of ‘worldies’ he seems to score.

The fee seems very cheap for a player of his recent (last 2-3 seasons) record - but I cannot speak to the quality of the Croatian league.
Certainly a gamble, like Cornet, in that we (really) have no idea how he will do in this league - but the value seems worth the gamble. At 29 he will be at his peak and won't be someone overawed with the prospect of playing in this league due to his international and European experience (again, similar to Cornet).

Burnley have made a breakthrough in their attempts to land Croatia midfielder Mislav Orsic to strengthen Sean Dyche’s squad.
They have agreed the structure of a £7 million deal with Dinamo Zagreb, who have been determined to keep the 29-year-old during the January transfer window.
Orsic, in his fourth season at Dinamo, has been targeted by Burnley to add creativity and can play on the left side of midfield or through the middle.
Burnley have been looking at the foreign market after the success of Maxwel Cornet’s arrival from Lyon in the summer. They are looking to re-invest the £25m received for Chris Wood from Newcastle to land a forward and midfielder.
