Are you really telling me that Lampard had no say in both signings. What a way to start a relationship between manager and club. Lampard will know Deli Ali from his England days.Just been on SKY that Lampard has played a major part in attracting him to Everton, and apparently VDB convinced to join after a good session with Lampard. My instincts were right

Can’t see him going back to Everton now they’ve signed Van de Beek and Alli. Would love to see him at Burnley but can’t see that either.
Have we ever pulled a last minute rabbit out of the hat?

Yes important but when Rangers and Bournemouth can get players to sign for them instead of us then the way we go about recruitment needs a major investigation. Even if that’s the case, how is it comparable to Burnley’s success in the transfer market? Do you think that players like Alli and VDB would be interested in a move to Burnley if only we were more decisive?warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 9:10 pmAre you really telling me that Lampard had no say in both signings. We had out contracts based on the club being run as a business
If Bournemouth do that I'll be absolutely amazed
And the Rangers one is fairly easy to understand, game time for Ramsey in a league where he can play in Europe and (in the nicest possible way) its game time at a not fantastic standard

Both are easy enough to explain. Ramsey knows he's not PL standard any more so is taking an easy option and Bournemouth have, relatively speaking, far better funding and prospects than we have.

Rangers are a MASSIVE club, play in the Champions League and Europe most seasonswarksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 9:14 pmYes important but when Rangers and Bournemouth can get players to sign for them instead of us then the way we go about recruitment needs a major investigation. Bournemouth are bankrolled by some Russian bloke and his mates
Bournemouth were paying players over 100K a week when they were in the PL.
I would say our difficulty in bringing players in is to do with it being January, bottom of the league, don't play the best football. Bournemouth are all but going up given the signings they've made today.
Not rocket science

Not sure Everton have that much money. They’re skirting the FFP rules after all the money they’ve already spent. Don’t think Ramsey is a big loss really. Going to Rangers is a copout. Clearly doesn’t think he can cut it in the PL and not up for a dogfight. The last thing we need is some fancy Dan showboater who thinks he is too good for us but actually might be past it at this level. Glad we haven’t got him. We just needed someone for central Midfield.

There’s still time for something to happen, but after this window the club need to establish a clear strategy.
We’re not very successful at signing senior/established footballers that improve the first team.
We’re not very good at signing promising players from lower divisions with an eye to getting in the first team within a year or two.
We’re not very good at bringing youngsters through the Academy or U23s.
Whatever division we’re in next season, we can’t continue being poor at all three of the above. It leads to stagnation.

In year end 2020 they spent £165m on wages compared with Burnley's £100m, and £115m on transfers compared with Burnley's £29m. It's enough of a difference to count as a lot of money.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 9:22 pmNot sure Everton have that much money. I’ve been patient, defended the club against a lot of criticism on here but that’s another terrible transfer window. Left ourselves woefully short in key areas and with a mountain to climb we’ve forgot to buy any climbing gear.

If we don't get more in then the main thing, I can think of is just sheer naivety. We can't rely on not having several options, we don't have the lure that other clubs have.

IMO was pointless looking courting the likes of Origi / Ramsey.
I'd rather we sign a Championship lad I have to google, than being linked to but not getting a household name.

That’s kind of my point. They’ve actually (mis)spent the thick end of £500m since Moshiri got involved and are still paying the likes of Tosun £100 grand a week. They’re pushing the limits of FFP.

Klopp raves about him whenever he plays, just isn't the room for him in that squad. Why he'd want to join us given our position is pie in the sky.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Boring. Left a lot of the fan base deflated and no doubt the players too. A signing or two to freshen things up in house and also in the stands would have given the whole club a much needed boost heading into the rest of the season. Just stinks of relegation this whole thing.

I was prepared to give the new owners the benefit of the doubt after a reasonable summer window.
The most alarming thing here is had we not sold Wood it’s likely we’d have done no business at all and just gone with what we have. That’s terrifying!
