Yes team selection in Australia was bizarre.
Of little help to Root but ECB chief exec Harrison should go too, without his bonuses.

And next.... James Taylor.

Then they can start to put proper structures back in place, and get the balance between 4 day and one day development right.

Why do sky say sacked and bbc/ ECB say that he stood down?

Either way it had to happen we have been awful away and just competitive at home for a number of years not sure it is entirely down to coaches and selection need some casualties further up the ECB chain methinks, Harrison is there anyone else left after that?

The right decision by the ECB, but unless there is radical root and branch reform of the county structures it won't matter who's at the helm.

I'd go much further and abolish the central contract system as well, guys who want to earn their England caps should be scoring runs in the domestic game, but that takes us back to the scheduling again, and until that situation is resolved England's batting woes will continue.

He didn't see that coming, rather like our batsmen against the opposition bowlers.

Kirsten or Ponting for me - although it would have to be split coaches if Ponting as I doubt he’d want that intense a schedule away from home from what he has said on podcasts recently.

Remember reading a good article a few years back attributed to Dhoni, who claimed Kirsten was the best thing that had happened to Indian cricket in years.

I fail to see how taking money off players will help? It will just push even more of the better players to white ball franchise game.
Plus the counties will have less money as they would have to pick up their wages.

Doesn’t matter who they choose as coach because you can’t play test cricket without opening batsmen. Sadly we haven’t got any!

Shane Warne. Knows the game inside out, knows English cricket inside out, a winner, played in some of the best teams on the planet, great man manager and would receive the ultimate respect from the players and staff. Give him a blank paper to re launch test cricket in this country.

Kirsten, Warne, Ponting all decent shouts.

I wouldn’t go near Langer, watching that The Test doc on Amazon he came across as a complete tool, the kind of bloke that with a decent side can get away with it but I could easily see players not responding to him if times were tough.

Whoever takes over can't do any worse surely. He needed to go purely for his bizarre team selection during the Ashes tour.

Wholesale clear out of the entire coaching staff it seems, no surprise Root continues as skip though as there's no obvious successor ATM.

Sadly it's par for the course for an England cricket fans these days. It wouldn't even surprise me if the WI beat us, they come mighty close to winning in England a couple of summers ago, and they have arguably improved since then, well England have gone backwards at a rate of knots.

No surprise in Giles, Silverwood and Thorpe's carrying the can for the debacle down under this winter. I'm very surprised that Root's remaining as captain and I'm more shocked that Harrison still remains in position of CEO following the turmoil over the last 6 months of so.

I don't think they could do much about the captaincy given we've not long to go before the tests in the West Indies and if we are going to get new people in three roles it might be best to get those appointments in place soon. Root's is the first name on the team sheet but I don't think he now has a long term future as captain.
