RIP to my Dad, a life-long Claret
I wanted to share the news that my father, a truly life-long and active supporting Claret sadly passed away at the age of 77 four weeks ago tomorrow Like so many of us, he was responsible for taking me on my first game in the ’70s and my love of football, Burnley Football Club, and being part of a very special and supportive fan community. I've been a season ticket holder ever since, and it's all down to him.
My dad loved the club and followed the football news every minute of every day, and even at his age embraced technology to keep up. However, the funny side of this is that he thought the ‘up the clarets’ message board was the official Burnley Football Club website. All dad referred to was “have you seen the news on the Burnley website” – I really didn’t have the heart to try and explain what our forum is and was, and that it wasn't the official site!!
Anyway, as CT knows, my daughter is married to one of our players and the nicest gesture ever was that his casket was draped in a lovely club shirt signed by all the players and staff at his funeral – it was such a fitting send-off. Tomorrow’s game versus Watford will be my first home game without dad since … well, I can’t remember, and I’m struggling with the concept he won’t be there. So, dad, I know you will be watching tomorrow, make sure you get in the boy's ears tonight, just a little whisper, and get them going, as we need a win … you are with mum now. I’m sure the big TV up there will be on full volume if she lets you, and you can shout and cheer on the lads …. Love you, dad, you will be sorely missed.

Re: RIP to my Dad, a life-long Claret
Sorry to hear your sad news, BaronGarcia.
I have everything crossed for a win tomorrow, doubly so now (if that’s possible). It’ll be really difficult for you seeing your Dad’s empty seat (or it being occupied by someone else) but I’m sure your Dad will be with you and cheering us on - hopefully to a much needed win.
Best wishes and keep strong

Commiserations on your sad loss BaronGarcia, and it will be hard attending without your father after all those years, but I'm sure he'll be watching over you and the boys, hopefully they can do him proud and deliver a performance and more importantly 3 vital points.

What a fitting tribute you've paid for your Dad. I'm a bit younger than him and you've done him proud. I would hope for a send off like that. Well done.

Rest in peace to your dad. You'll hold the memories forever and they can never be taken from you. I've been worrying all week about a stressful day of work tomorrow... reading this thread had me shaking my head at myself for worrying about it at all.
We'll win tomorrow and your dad will be watching.

Re: RIP to my Dad, a life-long Claret
So sorry to hear your news BaronGarcia. It's so sad when the person responsible for you being a Claret leaves us. It was a long time since I went through that but my dad's always in my mind on special Burnley occasions.
And good to hear son-in-law helped with the shirt.

What a beautiful tribute to your dad, be lying if I said it didn't get to me. A lot of love you have for your dad and that's very special, I hope your son in law and the boys do the business tomorrow night, because 100% your old man is watching the game with you. UTC. NNN.

We sing 'Burnely Till I Die' but that's not quite true. Your old man may sadly no longer be with us, but he's Burnley until the end of time.

Nice post and tribute. My Dad first took me on in the 70s and is elderly now so I can relate to your Claret pathway. I’m sure he’ll be watching up there. No doubt about it. Hope you get to see a good game today.

Re: RIP to my Dad, a life-long Claret
Condolences Baron Garcia, excellent tribute. It really resonates with me as I lost my Dad last April, another life-long passionate claret. He died at a similar age. A few days later we spanked Wolves 4-0, and it certainly felt like he had a hand in that.
I really hope we get something similar for you and your Dad today. But if not, this sort of thing is a good reminder that there are more important things in life.
