Completely different style of player to Wood. The team needs to adapt better to his skill set and good signs were there from about the latter part of the first half. This guy looks top drawer in terms of technical ability, hold up play and attitude. Very impressive.

Had an excellent 2nd half. Needs ball playing to feet. Great touch and movement in build up to the assist. Also good at collecting from deep. Works hard too. I can’t think of another striker like him.

Looks like he will be a very good signing by Pace and the new recruitment team, whowever they are. A couple more of his quality in midfield and we would have a good team/squad. If we can only stop up this year, we could be moving in the right direction.

Fair enough and I wouldn't disagree on that. I just find it strange how people seem quick to give Pace the credit and omit Dyche. There's a reason Barton had his head on straight under Dyche alone, there's a reason Defour still sings his praises despite having played for Belgium when they were ranked #1 in the world, there's a reason Trippier still talks so highly of Dyche even as a World Cup semifinalist and European Championship Final goalscorer. He's an exceptionally astute manager regardless of my and others frustrations with playing style, who clearly gets players to overperform regularly, and my instinct is that he is a key part of the brains behind these signings, just had limitations on his options under Garlick.
I hope this window was a blip in terms of incoming volume and whatever league we're in, we keep this up and Dyche/Pace have better cohesion than Dyche/Garlick.

There is a video of Weghorst's 65 goals for Wolfsburg on YouTube and only around 13 are headers.
And I think I'm correct in saying that only one of his goals came from outside the penalty area.

Thought at half time we might have been sold a dud, easy to push of the ball, can't jump, looked slow, wow was I wrong, second half he was fantastic I can't wait to see what he can do in better weather and he's had a few games under his belt.

I didn’t even think he was that bad first half, but second he was like a man possessed. Superb skill for the goal and his use of the ball in tight situations was outstanding. I think he much preferred playing with a ‘proper’ forward like Rodriguez too.

That second half performance was fantastic. He seemed to grow in confidence, particularly from the fantastic assist. Thought he didn’t make moves towards the ball in the first half and also lumbered in possession a little too long. Second half he really seemed to get up to the pace of the game and look to make things happen which has been my biggest criticism of our players this season. Looking forward to seeing more of him and hopefully goals to come.

Thought Tarkowski and Mee were immense at the back last night but for me, Weghorst, especially in the second half, really set the tone for how we performed further up the pitch. Both with and without the ball. Showed some real class and not a little bit of leadership and example which we have been missing desperately. Other players seemed to really feed off that.

Looked as though he’d been told “you don’t get time on the ball in the premier league” but after he dropped in a bit, played some nice stuff just before half time, he seemed to realise that actually you do and there was more calmness to his play.

Looks a player and a few were very quick to pile in on him on here on Saturday.

Aye, it's pronounced like shout, not like root.

From the second half (when we woke up) he was so much more involved in the press and the build-up play than we'd become accustomed to seeing from Wood. Anticipated his teammates' pressure rather well and consistently positioned himself well to help the midfield. This is something for which Wood had zero nous, and we need the strikers to come deep and help win the ball back if we're only playing two in midfield. Something you don't usually see done too well in target men, and makes you think if calling him a target man is even fair to him. He's just a smarter footballer than Wood, I think. Just as slow as Wood, and probably not as much of a battering ram, but looks sharper, takes more initiative, and moves the ball far quicker.

Agree with a lot of that. He doesn't seem an out and out target man, which is brilliant because we can try to play more touch football. He passes well, short and sharp somtimes, perhaps too quick for some of our players and his pass for the goal was sublime.

Reminded me a bit of Peter Crouch, just in the way that he's lanky and awkward to get the ball off, technically better than he looks, drops deep effectively etc.

Was interesting earlier this week that Rangnick was asked about him in his press conference.

Rangnick said: “He’s not that much of a physical target striker. He is more of a technical player.”

Totally different kind of player than Wood who we will need to use in a different way.

As good an all round performance from a Burnley center forward for a long long time. Won the ball in the air, on his chest , on the floor and in the tackle. Scored a goal of the highest quality and made the second out of nothing. Even won the ball with a sliding tackle that started the third goal. 10 out of 10 for me
