Is Max okay?

Well the way that he limped off the other day didn’t look too good but then he was seen in the stands yesterday. Any news?

At the press conference Sean Dyche said he's available.

The only reason he limped off was because he had cramp

He’s posted that himself after the game

Hopefully more stamina training and work on his muscles will protect his hamstring more and more.

I’m yet to see a game where I think he’s been as great as many of his plaudits suggest. Great goals, flashes of real potential but not yet a wow he really is that good performance.

I’ll get pelters for this, but can only judge on what I’ve seen so far.

Would you not say that many good/ great players come alive in moments of a game, I would suggest Blake was the same.

Yes take the goals from absolutely nothing, his great touch, tricks and the way he appears to lift the whole team/ground and there isn’t much there.

Has done little other than the hardest part of the game - scoring goals. Apart from United has scored or gone very close every time he’s played. I’ll take that.

It was a fair comment that he's not put in an all round star display for 90 mins yet but has shown flashes of excellence. Typically for this board though, the comment was with either misread or misunderstood and gets shot down like that.

I understand your point but the wording is a little off - no player ever dominates a game for 90 minutes.
I think he’s awesome, but I know what you mean - he’s not shown quite enough yet for the plaudits he gets. However, I think the way the players and staff obviously rate him is a sign of how good he is. He takes corners and free kicks - so clearly has very good technical ability to go with his pace and trickery, along with his excellent movement it is a recipe for success.

Absolutely, he's clearly an outstanding player with bags of ability and quality.

I agree with DCWat though that he's not yet put in a huge performance for us. I think back to Leeds away when he scored that belter of a free kick but hardly had a kick for the rest of the game. Similarly Crystal Palace at home when the ball was bouncing off him all game but then scored an absolute worldie goal of the season.

I also think the fact he's not shone for 90 mins though is because he's not a striker, and I think if we use him off the left of the forward line we'll start to see consistency from him as well.

i agree with DCWat too.
But we needed some flair and now we have some.
MC has played a few games at this highly competitive level and scored some terrific goals. We can't expect more at present...
and we certainly don't want him turned into a workhorse.

If you are expecting more than he’s delivered this far you’re expecting too much.

At the moment he’s scored goals, I’m sure he will create as well as time goes on, he’s never going to dominate games, he’s not that type of player but he will win games!

I think it’s a symptom of what we’ve become that we expect him to be a bit of everything. Let’s just have one player that does the match winning bits well. That will do me.

Pretty sure he has (had until United) the best goals per minute record in the PL. Only Burnley fans could complain about that.

He has been played as a Striker which isn’t his position and we haven’t got him on the ball enough. Certainly been good enough for me to date. In fact he’s been a ray of sunshine.

I’m certainly not complaining, I’ve seen signs of a very good player and I’m not criticising him. What I am saying though is that so far, I’ve not seen enough to warrant the levels of adulation that he’s receiving.

I’m not advocating that we remove the quality that he brings, but I am advocating that I want to see a bit more from him. That may be defensively, but also offensively.

His goals have been fantastic - hopefully they continue - but I do want to see more of a contribution from him in games like on Tuesday, when barring the odd moment of quality, he was quiet.

I’m certainly not going to apologise for not joining in the Cornet frenzy so far. He’s been good, but I want to see more from him before reaching some of the levels of amazement that I’ve seen on here.

An interesting debate. I'm actually the opposite - he's done so well considering everything we ought not to expect him to repeat what he's done so far.

The two words 'Jesus Wept' are a verse from the Bible . In fact the shortest verse in the whole of the Bible. They describe Jesus's reaction on receiving the news of death of a friend. Sadly the phrase has been used by some people and writers who are incapable of expressing themselves without offending other people.

It is the Dyche way. Any player we have with any attacking quality soon has that trained out of them.
And then we wonder why we don’t score goals.

I’m not suggesting that but I do want to see more of a ‘for the team’ ethic. I think it’d be naive not to expect a level of that, the way we play. There’s a balance to be had, of course!!

I think I've seen it all now. If you want to see someone make more of an impact than MC has, footballs not for you.

Look at the quality of his goals. His performance against Brentford, I would say was dominating a game, given his position. He was brilliant.

Get what you are saying to a degree but I think it’s worth remembering that he’s also had to adapt to not just a new league, but also a completely different style of football. For example, at Lyon when he played on the wing it will have been in an attacking 4-5-1 where he’s positioned high up the pitch making those cutting runs in behind the full back. For us, it’s a 4-4-2 which already puts the positioning of the player back a peg and it’s also Burnley, that sees the least possession in the entire league. Then chuck in being played in a new position (striker) when IMO he isn’t a back to goal player.

Add in a few injuries, being disrupted by going to AFCON and training at a different intensity again, I think to still have the best minutes to goals ratio (or thereabouts) in the league is pretty incredible. But I also get the feeling there is a lot more to come. At Lyon, his assist record was also very good and that’s an area of his game we haven’t really seen yet. Exciting!

I still don’t think he’s got going properly yet.

Injuries, call up’s, hardly playing for two months in Dec and Jan etc.

To have the impact he’s had despite that shows what a good player he is.
Excellent signing.

I don’t think he’s fit enough to play wide midfield in this particular game with just 4 days rest after Man U
Maybe could play up front but we have WW and Jay Rod
So because this game will be mainly a defensive shift for midfield, then I’d bench him and only bring him on if we’re in touch late on for a possible moment of magic
If we’re being well beaten as is a possibility then adding another 6 days recuperation could get him ready for Brighton

In this Instance it was more than appropriate.
