"Can I get..." as in can I get a coffee.
Don't know if its an Americanism, but what's wrong with
"Could I have..."?
Or actually:
"Please may I have"

Completely agree with opening post. The patronising phrase of 'Give your head a wobble' is puke inducing, followed closely by 'Beggars Belief'.

The other one that gets on me tits is:

"You couldn't make it Up"....

‘Dinosaur’ really winds me up you get that when we play shoite. Listened to a interview with Neil warnock the other day he said if we won I was a hero-if we didn’t I was a dinosaur.

'I myself......'
Who else could 'I' be?

'Cheers' instead of 'Thank you' drives me mad. Of course, 'Cheers' if you are having a drink.

Can I get a coffee?
Did you forget something?
Ok can I get a coffee please?
No sorry, it’s a health and safety issue
What do you mean Health and safety
You’re not allowed or authorised to be behind the counter
I just want a cup of coffee
Do you mean you’d like a cup of coffee?
Yes
Well why didn’t you ask for one?

To be fair, it wasn't an expression you ever heard back in the day.

People who write or say literally when there's no need to.
Those who say genre instead of category, and why do so many Northerners use Cockney rhyming slang now,? I don't have a Scoobie why the do!

Just one word - so - when used to begin a sentence. The first person I heard using this was Robert Peston a few years ago just as upspeak was on the wane. It now seems to have spread across the nation particularly among millennials but it’s affected other groups as well.

What about the current American trend of removing pronouns before the word 'fun':

'That was so fun'

Good grief.

And who says ‘hey’ instead of hello, hiya or all reet? Apart from Americans, Aussies and Brit-made TV Dramas involving suburbanites. Probably made for international sales anyway

Right. I was brought up in the 60s so of course I know about “Officer Dibble” but to the best of my knowledge Dibble has never been a slang word for police in Burnley, or indeed any part of East Lancs so imagine my surprise when it appeared on a thread specifically designed to highlight some people’s affectations. So unless you were brought up on a sink estate in Manchester it seems a bit ironic

I hate it when people ommit the "I" at the start of a sentence, it just appears lazy and there are numerous examples of it on this very thread

Staycation does not mean going on holiday in this country, because guess what, you are still going on holiday.

A staycation is a where you spend your evening at your home address after traveling out somewhere for the day

Prompted by seeing someone using the phrase online today can I offer "Love you to the moon and back" .
What the hell does this mean ? Since when was distance a measurement unit of affection ? Huge cringe every time I see this.

On a par with "give your head a wobble" is "wind yer neck in'" - it's probably technically possible to give your head a wobble but how do you wind your neck in? :(

Another annoying Americanism that seems to be on the rise is the use of the word 'super' in place of 'very' or extremely e.g. "this coin is super rare" or "this recipe is "super quick"

One that drives me crazy that has recently got popular over here is Winningest. Like New York Yankees are the most winningest team of all time. I would imagine it will soon be over on your shores.
