that's all any of us can do, read listen and make opinions, some are clearly tainted with political likes/dislikes but at the end of the day, as long as we politely put our opinions forward with some kind of rationale as to why, then it can be a good thread.

I will be shocked if any NATO troops set foot in the Ukraine, they're basically on their own with a large part of the world supporting them from afar, flag waiving and making a general nuisance of themselves to Russia, aimed particularly at Putin, but essentially ineffectual.

Unfortunately my opinion is he will come out of this as a winner and for all the rhetoric, things will slowly go back to normal, Putin will be disliked but largely not interested what anyone else thinks, it's following a similar pattern we've seen before, yes far more serious than his other antics but nobody is turning that pipeline off, which if I'd have been looking at it. It's the thing I would have targeted in the first hour of the invasion, welcome to my world of hurt Europe.

If it goes back to normal, next will be a NATO country, I think the leaders now understand that.
They would remove them from SWIFT but the lights would go out across Europe.

Petrol already went up by 6p to 160 at my local garage.

It is impossible to talk about the strength of western responses to Russian aggression without talking about the means by which Russia has worked to weaken our responses.

Seriously. If we have a weak-as-**** response to Russia how do we talk about that without talking about why we have a weak-as-**** response? And how can we talk about the "why" when certain issues that help explain that are banned from being brought up?

The reason i don't want the thread locking due to petty point scoring and name calling is that some posters have in depth knowledge of the circumstances that created this dreadful situation, friends/family who live there etc. Take Lancasterclaret, I disagree with some things he says but respect his view, however a previous post he gave a really interesting military analysis of the area/situation as one of his passions is military history

There is a leaked document on twitter from the Russian Health ministry asking for all regions of Russia to send details of all available medical personal and for them to be available for relocation at short notice

That sounds like either Russia is going to fully mobilise (which would be really, really, really bad) or that the casualties are really heavy (very bad, but preferable to the first scenario)
