Energy security is something I’ve hoped successive governments would sort out, mainly through massive acceleration of renewables. But they continually disappoint. Maybe it’ll actually get the investment it needs now, both here & in Europe.

Generally though, I imagine Putin will make a huge mistake if he stops supply anywhere, particularly running in to the summer months as presumably everyone will have time to adjust while demand is lower? And when they’ve made those structural changes, likely never go back!

I wondered this when I saw the images of all those abandoned tanks the other day. Do you destroy them so they can’t be recaptured and used against you, or use them to strengthen your army? I’m cautious so I’d probably go the former!

Local opposition largely to blame (rightly or wrongly) - Oil in the South East, Gas from fracking; both shelved after protests. Meaning it will take time to move into sustainable energy.

The fact is the Western leaders are not overly concerned by the threat (though they take it seriously), all the signs are that the military has given us the nod… they wont agree to fire should word be given - President Bidon even smirked when asked about it.

Yugoslavia sadly demonstrated what happens when there is a sudden power vacuum… our performance in Cyprus has stopped Greece and Turkey formally squaring up to each other for 30 years (although its never been ideal).

Quick question to our American Clarets , is the war getting the same coverage in the States as it is here ie wall to wall on the TV and newspapers, also is the vast majority of opinion as it is here absolute shock and disgust tinged with worry about nuclear escalation ?

From my point of view I watch BBC World News, plus also ABC, it's definitely covered everyday with some very good segments, yesterday for example the ABC news anchor had a one on one with the Ukraine president, asking very good questions, mostly aimed at US, what would he say again to Biden and the west in general. I suspect like the UK the energy prices and increase on everyday travel is discussed. Lot's on evacuation corridors and the whole aspects of the war, so yes wall to wall coverage.

Ukraine should be immediately invited to join NATO. Their ‘urgent application’ should be fast tracked and approved. NATO then can INSTRUCT Putin to call an immediate ceasefire and withdraw his troops from Ukraine within 14 days.

He will be absolutely furious and predict an apocalyptic end to the continent of Europe.

But his bluff will be called and he will back down.
