I was wanting Cork to start and I would have played Jay with Cornet wide and Dwight right (or benched).

However, that chance for Dwight was an absolute sitter, an easy header just as easy as Toney’s. I note it was Westwood who delivered it.

I’m also reflecting on relegation battles being cagey affairs with little quality, we didn’t want an end to end game with the best assister in Premier League history playing. So in that sense it almost went to plan. I turned on the Sky 90 minute rerun by coincidence at Jay’s shot, and from then on Brentford didn’t look like creating anything. We were hit with a sucker punch from a world class player who is obviously way too good for Brentford other than for the strange circumstances.

So in that context I’m tempted to go easy on Dyche and let us crack on. We need to be better than Leeds in the last 10 games, they have an easy one tomorrow, so it will be tough, but do-able.

I think Dyche got it wrong today before a ball was even kicked.

Assuming Cork is fit, I can't see how Westwood was picked ahead of him today. The general consensus amongst Burnley fans is that Cork should be starting ahead of Westwood. We won games when he was in the team recently and we looked a better side with him playing. How Westwood got the nod again beggars belief.

Roberts has been poor lately but apparently deserves to keep starting, despite having a pretty decent alternative in Lowton. Maybe he's been picked for his long throw ability, which rarely finds a team mate and always goes nowhere.

Team selection aside that's the third game in a row where we've gone to pieces in the second half. Once again we've been out-thought and out-manouvered in the second half and the game has been put to bed. Christ knows what gets said at half time but it's certainly not working.

We haven't been out the bottom three all season, and today we could have dragged ourselves out of it with just a draw. The door was wide open and we couldn't even muster that, against a team that's lost 8 of their last 11 games.

It’s all marginal, it may or may not make a difference. Ultimately they’re all pretty similar and unfortunately not good enough. How many times did we get a position to deliver to deliver a cross that Erikson did? 2-11 we’re not good enough and it’s been coming for the past 3 years. It’s a shame because we’ve spent some brass this season, but it’s too little too late…
I’m not sure Roberts is much better than Lowton, Collins will be an adequate replacement for Tarky eventually, Cornet hasn’t been able to play often enough to make a real difference. Wout v Wood…too early to say.
One thing is for sure…we don’t have that one club mentality that set us apart from other relegation rivals anymore. Fans chanting 4 more years one minute, then Dyche out the next.

I agree with those who think it is marginal. I would have played Jay but many on here went for Cornet.

The problem is that in years past we have had very clinical finishers in Barnes and Wood (albeit you wouldn't know it listening to posts on here) and now we haven't.

The other big factor was Mee; I thought we would concede without him.

Agree the Westwood/Cork thing is a bit strange but still think Dyche is getting as much out of the team as he can.

I always recall a statement that SD made in the aftermath of the last World Cup when he said that the competition showed that you didn’t need to have the lion’s share of possession to win a game, or something like that. That seems to be one of the fundaments of Dycheball. I’ve joked on this forum before about how our 4-4-2 is in fact a 9-0-1 but that really does appear to be the way we play. We set up for the siege irrespective of who the opposition are. There really doesn’t appear to be any real plan for attack, merely the hope that we’ll get a couple of chances in the course of a game. Dycheball is no longer as effective as it was in previous years. An aging squad hasn’t helped since it relies to a great extent on fitness and the low block. Teams have also worked out how to play against it. Maybe it would still have some value if SD had been allowed to recruit earlier.
The writing was on the wall last season. I don’t believe that we’re any worse this year than we were then, there were some truly dire performances in 20/21. The big difference last year was that there were three teams who were clearly poorer than us, I’m not sure that we can say that this year. It doesn’t bode well for me that some of our worst and most uninspiring performances in the last two seasons have been against Championship and League One opposition and also that we have generally struggled to get a result against the teams around us.

We do absolutely zilch research on the opposition. I think Leicester and Brentford between them have conceded 20 goals from corners. Ironically the stat came up for Leicester yesterday just as Arsenal took a corner and BANG Partey headed it in. I bet there was no work done on corners in recent weeks. We used to be one of the best at delivering that low trajectory swinging corner with Mee, Wood & Tarks in the danger zone, and someone legitimately impeding the goalie or crowding him out.I know we have lost Wood but we have possibly the tallest striker in the PL right now. We did not test either team needless to say. Sadly these tight margins are becoming f...ing wacking ones aggregated over 23 or so games. SD that one is wearing thin
