Teams for lads

Post by Twistedbyknaves » Sun Mar 27, 2022 1:48 pm

Hi. My 12 year old lad has got into footy and would like to join a team/club. Needs to be a basic level and one that will help him develop. Anyone know the best places to try? TIA

I’ve bumped an earlier thread for you “Junior football teams” if it’s any good.

Fulledge Colts all the way!

I’ll get you details of the manager and training days etc

Found Fulledge Colts to be a little clicky. Certain managers i've found to be overbearing. Win at all costs. Granted that's only my experience. This is after a number of years involvement. I guess its the same with certain teams at all clubs.

Try and get your lad to join with a couple of his mates if possible.

Probably the same all over, it was like that when I played there 20 years ago, hasn’t been like that since my daughter joined but competition for places is different plus the managers are great lads that just want to see the girls smile, they don’t care so much about the result.

From experience, although the girls teams are just as competitive as the boys, and in some cases better, I’ve found the coaches of girls teams less so and are more about the enjoyment and less so the results than some boys teams

Probably right mate, I hate hearing the parents screaming on the sidelines, shut your mouth and let them enjoy it, there should only be one voice and that’s the manager. 8 year old girls petrified of playing because mummy Karen is screaming at her to shoot.

A club such as Fulledge colts shouldn't be judged by individual coaches, they provide a fantastic set up for 100s of children across the town.

It's a brilliant club as is, Barrowford Celtic and Rose Grove.

Is your lad in year 7 or 8, if its 7 he could be coming in at the right time as alot of teams will be recruiting from 9 aside going to 11 aside.

My opinion only, speak to a couple of clubs, be honest about the level of your lad and I'm sure one of the above clubs will try their best for him

Thank you. I’d appreciate that.

I rang Belvedere the other week and not heard anything. Messaged them earlier on Facebook but don’t know if I’ll hear back. He will be at a very basic level but he wants to learn and get better. And in answer to the person who asked, yes he’s coming towards the end of year 7.

Thanks again for all the replies.
