Latest Turf Moor Staff Changes

Post by ClaretTony » Thu Mar 31, 2022 2:56 pm

Helen Tanner (Head of Safeguarding)
Paul Bradshaw (Head Groundsman)

Both removed from the staff list but I believe they've been gone a while.

Ella Cummins (Head of Global Partnerships and then Head of Commercial Partnerships)
Julian Bowran (Safety Officer)

Both more recently left and removed from the staff list

Mark Thompson - previously Chief of Staff, now Co-Chief Operating Officer
Matt Williams - previously Chief Operating Office, now Co-Chief Operating Officer

Also, Tony Loughlan has now been removed from the list and replaced by Steve Stone (that one took some time).

Was Ella Cummins a fairly recent (i.e. under Pace) hire?

Pre-Pace but she was appointed during the latter part of 2020 when Hart was CEO.

Ella Cummins didn't last long did she - started just two days after the takeover - did she leave of her own accord or was she pushed?

Whichever way that was there appears to be a big weight of expectation as to what Joe Wagner can bring in as the commercial manager - the area where we are led to believe VSL see significant opportunity for growth

We’ve not really been that successful with all these changes thus far, have we?

Her appointment came pre-Pace, looks as though she started just after the takeover. I believe it wasn't her decision to leave.

Gordon Kaye seems to be the key man in that department having been recruited from Celtic.

My first thought when I saw his name - the one we've got had responsibilities at Celtic that included women's football and esports.

Still if he had a similar role at Celtic he should have some strong contacts with an interest in football

You'd think so - and over nine years at Celtic

Who is the Head groundsman now then?

I know we brought that lad in from Accy but I thought he was for the training ground?

She came from Lancs County Cricket Club but had previously worked for a number of football clubs.

It would be really interesting to know how much is cost cutting and how much is just getting people who are aligned with VSL's/Dyche's thinking

but then the club are less communicative than they have ever been it seems - which in football seems to be the American model, which is somewhat contrary to the expectations of many

I assume we'll see a ton of staff let go once we're relegated, I assume our Cat 1 academy will be downgraded due to expense required to run? pretty sure Blackburn downgraded theirs once they were relegated.

Blackburn's has never been downgraded - remains at Cat 1 in tenth season since relegation.

Maybe it was Bolton not Blackburn, I always thought it was Blackburn though but you're correct. I just saw Swansea downgraded theirs after relegation, £3-4M a year to run cat 1 apparently.

Recruiting people all over the place, at a rapid rate of knots, except in the one area that really matters.

It seems ironic to have a “Head of Global Partnerships” when, apparently, effective communication with your most loyal partners - your supporters- is so poor.
IMHO, of course.

BFC, at the moment just seem to be less full of Cummins but lots of goings.

That jumps out out me, if the Mark Thompson was the chap that originally took the CoS role. He looked very young and not the strongest CV (bits around ticketing, consultancy - unproven as a c-suite exec basically). Not sure I would be happy if I was Matt Williams sharing my role with him? Unless it was part of my own exit strategy.

So let's see. Currently the club has the following staff on the senior management team...

Director of Operations
Matchday Head of Operations
x2 Co- Chief of Operations (one of whom was Chief of Staff)
Facilities Manager

All this as well as Alan Pace in the Chairman/CEO role and the rest of the Americans who came with him.

Going off this I imagine there'll be a few more being removed from the staff list this summer.

Ella’s LinkedIn is showing at Burnley till May - assuming it’s gardening leave. Bizarre move as she’s good.

When did she get promoted/changed to global? Dates overlap a lot on LinkedIn. Global says May which would assumed gardening leave with the notice period.

Global was the job she initially came in to do - it says May 2021, last year. Commercial partnerships then from May 2021 to March 2022.

I thought Matt Williams was well thought of. Unless it’s his choice to reduce his hours it seems strange to start job sharing.
