Not sure that the assumptions here are correct. Why would the debt be paid off in 2 years time?Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 12:58 pmThis is why the club should never have been sold in what was effectively a leveraged buyout. It's like taking out a very large mortgage on a house, while your long term employment prospects look dodgy. In fact, it's worse, because a house won't devalue as quickly as a small, and not so 'fashionable', EPL club being relegated to the Championship.
And yes, Wednesday evening is massive for us. Relegation in a couple of years time wouldn't be so bad if most of the debt had been paid off and the parachute money is then used for rebuilding, but under the current circumstance, not so good.

Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
Not the biggest game since Orient imo. Sheffield U at Wembley, Plymouth on the final day of Waddle's season when we could so easily have slipped back into what is effectively Div 4 and the games against both Wigan and QPR which clinched promotions were all bigger. But having said that, it's definitely up there!

Read my post again. I said, 'if most of the debt had been paid off'.

I'm not sure there's much reason to believe we'll have paid off most or even some of the debt in that time frame though is there?
Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
I had a quick Google to remind me of our last relegation from the top flight, outside of the Premier League era (before my time).
“Adamson left Burnley in January 1976 and the team were relegated from the First Division later that year. During this period, a drop in home attendances combined with an enlarged debt forced Burnley to sell star players such as Martin Dobson and Leighton James, which caused a rapid decline in the club's fortunes.”
The Orient game being raised, when talk of spending on signings is suggested, is often criticised as harking back to the past.
That it may be, but reading the above snippet it could, with different names, quite easily be applied to this season, if a minor miracle isn’t forthcoming.
For those watching us back when we were relegated from the old First Division, the manager leaving aside, are you seeing any parallels to our current position?
That relegation was the start of an all too long decline, I just hope that there is a sound plan in place to ensure that, should we be relegated, we don’t see a similar fall from grace.
My confidence isn’t high on either front!

I'd say it's one of the most important games Burnley have had since they have been in the Premiership. Definitely not the most important fixture since Orient.
Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
It's definitely the most important fixture since our last game

Can you please confirm which industrial estate you refer to that is opposite burnley college?elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 10:04 pmYou can trust me at the time I had many good sources within the club. That football match is the reason the industrial estate (now opposite the college) happened. The club had no option if Burnley FC were to survive, they were on the move.
I can only see Asda and McDonald's

It’s amazing we are still in some sort of contention the amount of times we’ve buggered things up, but this game surely represents the lastest lastest of chance saloons defeat & I can’t see a reprieve.

Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
I’m in the glass half full section in that I don’t believe the finances would be that dire. If that were going to be the case I think there would have been more desperation to get in signings in the last window. However, I may be wrong, just hope I’m not.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 10:48 amI guess it depends on your personal interpretation of the finances.
I don’t believe the concern from many is that we will just become a championship club but considerably worse

Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
Nothing like the Orient game in terms of the future of the club. It's the last shot at keeping this season alive most likely. Even then it's not totally all over.
Win the next two and we have a good fighting chance. Lose them and la grosse dame chante!

Only winning 3 games all season and yet still being in with a shout of avoiding the drop at this stage is utterly unbelievable. We need to grab it!!!

Nothing but nothing was more important than that result. Either since or ongoing.

We are down imo whether we win or not. We’ve been appalling most of the season and deserve to drop. The Championship is a good level of football it’s just the debt and ALK that concern me in the division below. As for being as big as Orient ? I don’t think the poster quite realises the gravity of that event. We might have had no club at the end of it.

Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
The question was, the most important game since Orient ?, not that it had the same existential threat at the time of playing.
After this match we will still be in the Premier League.
What might make it a pivotal match is the ramifications which might ensue should we be defeated.
It might of course be the catalyst for much needed change.
It might usher in a period of chaos and uncertainty
It might have repercussions as great as defeat in the Orient match.

Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
While it’s not as big as the Orient it’s our biggest game of the prem era ( thus far ) and to think if we win it’s proper game on for our prem survival . If we lose , our good run in and games in hand will be almost pointless . Win this and Norwich the whole vibe will be like a transformation .

That is where ASDA set up after it became clear Burnley were not moving, besides those two is Argos, George (was Carpet Right and a stationers) but I’m not sure what is there now. The reason I am not trying to put any names to it, is I cannot remember who it was told me and I don’t want to put the words in the wrong mouth after so long (I spoke to everyone from the groundsman to the assistant manager and one of the directors, and even played as a youth player under CT, so we were always around the club.Quite frankly it could have been any or a combination of them)

What a childish response. If we lose tonight it gives us very little hope of staying up. How on Earth we service that level of debt in the lower league is anyone's guess.
Tonight is massive

Was that the break we needed to set this season alight, and give us another year to sort things out.
Another victory at Norwich to keep the momentum going.

Re: The most important fixture since Orient?
Too early to say, but it's at least given us a genuine chance during the final weeks, when all looked forlorn after the Brentford defeat.claretandbluesky wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 10:12 pmWas that the break we needed to set this season alight, and give us another year to sort things out.

Norwich is a real opportunity for a win, West Ham will be tough, but following that it's Southampton at home, so as long as we can continue picking up points that will ask serious questions of Everton & Watford.
Also the first time this season we've snatched a late winner, and it don't half feel good to win in the dying embers. and even more so against a direct rival.
Only our 4th PL win of the season, yet we now have a real shot at surviving which in itself is amazing.
But tonight will only matter if we maintain the momentum over the coming games, huge morale boost for the fans and players though, and proof that we are up for the fight.

So you mean a retail park, not an industrial estate full of factories and warehouses etc. Hence my confusionelwaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 1:49 pmThat is where ASDA set up after it became clear Burnley were not moving, besides those two is Argos, George (was Carpet Right and a stationers) but I’m not sure what is there now.
