To all those questioning the rationale, and the timing. Who’s to say there haven’t been conversations between Dyche and the board - with both parties of the view that they would part ways in the event of relegation. If that is the case then the timing isn’t particularly odd as it would give us a chance to bring a new manager in who may be able to turn things around in the next 8 games, or at worse get a feel for his squad and which areas need addressing in summer.

Dyche would receive a settlement, maybe more than he would if sacked following a relegation, and he also avoids having that relegation on his record.

I think the vast majority of us were in agreement that relegation seemed an almost certainty, so parting ways now is no more odd than at the end of the season. Not to say with any certainty that is what’s happened, but it’s possible.

Edit - I guess the speed at which we appoint a new manager will be quite telling.

I’d still take him though. We spotted him on the Turf for the Man U game recently. I said I’d have lived the seat next to him, you would learn so much about the game just listening to him.

Hadn't heard about this but saw it on the 1 o'clock news..unbelievable..I'm gutted .For me it's a jimmy mac type moment . crazy timing..I didn't have much hope of avoiding the drop but if it was going to be avoided it was SD who would do it .Don't see how the timing of this can be justified and it will have cost us bloody £ millions .

I don’t know. Maybe they think there is a slightly better chance of survival if Dyche goes. Or maybe something has happened behind the scenes. I expect more news will leak out over the next few days.

0-2 vs Norwich and a **** poor non show performance AGAIN. Make no mistake, we were absolutely doomed to relegation with Dyche here. I think we'll get relegated anyway but maybe ALK thought it was better to take a gamble that another manager could change our fortunes rather than sit back and accept relegation with Dyche.

My first thought of what might be behind it… new manager close at United. That perhaps mean that the likes of Carrick and Micky Phelen are coming available. Added to that Derby might be looking to get Roonies wage off the books following relegation…

For me this is the scenario that makes most sense.. a management team that have worked closely together for years. Seem to remember it is also where our other (hugely liked) goalkeeping coach also went?

I’m probably way off the mark but it would explain the delay with so much potentially decided in the next week or so. Sorry that is the best I can come up with, for what seems incredibly bad timing. Absolutely gutted, I saw wanted SD to find the magic formula in the run in. I hope we don’t have another thirty years of hurt as a result of this.

Agreed - if it was in their thinking, the time to do it was a month or two back (even better would have been pre the transfer window).

As a glass half empty person I fear this day will be remembered when the motorcade went into reverse, back tracking the 22 plus years of success started when BK took over, backed Stan who was taking us back to Division Three (Four) and we motored up and up until now.

Possibly ALK have looked st the teams in pole position for promotion from the championship and they all play a style of football more akin to the Premier league style and that has influenced them. I still think though Dyche has had to work with a small budget that has influenced his style.

I think you may be correct. We saw the worst of SD publicly pre COVID when the league resumed and we had a number of players coming up to OOC ie Lennon, Hendrick. He was obviously very upset about it in interviews and a number of us thought then he would quit. Having seen this clear out I suspect all OOC will go including those with another year option ie Cork, and Barnes

Devastating news. We've just sacked a bloke who has performed minor miracles at our club at EPL level. Also, two Championship promotions on his CV as well. Utter, utter madness. I've said all along that we have to see where we are by November next season. Goes to show how desperate the current owners are. More like a mindless gambler, staking everything on the last throw of the dice. Makes me wonder just how screwed OUR CLUB is if we don't have the EPL money to service its debts.

A sad day for me, and to say I'm angry as **** over this, is to put it lightly.

Since the new ownership deal we've gone from a club with £40m in the bank and no debts, to a board that have mortgaged the club to their eyeballs and don't seem to have any cash of their own to spend. And now they sack (disgraceful if that is what it actually is) one of the best managers we've ever had. Not just in a football sense but in a man managing, developing sense too.

As I posted - Carrick won’t be losing his job at United, he left at the end of last year.
