Just been reading up on Diego Martinez and it seems that he did an excellent job at Granada.

3 - last 3rd of the season
4 - last few month's.....you've said all the above
5 - or a new one to suit your agenda.......

too many at the top of the betting lists are 'nearly done it managers'. That includes Chris Wilder.

Ternent, Cotterill, Coyle, Dyche. all of these turned out to be good managers and moved the club on with varying degrees of success but mainly positive.

i prefer to think we will appoint a manager who has shown early signs of promise, has learned, and is now ready for the next challenge. Kompany may well fit this bill but I am sure there are others, maybe Santo too, but few on the bookmakers lists appeal

Diego Martinez an interesting one. Obviously no link just speculation based on Pace heading into Europe. Seems he’s been in England watching a lot of the PL recently and loves the football tradition here. The job he did at Granada seems akin to Dyche here. Available too.

I've looked up Diego Martinez. Quite an interesting career so far. Only 41 and he's not far off having managed 500 games, albeit most at a low level as he was gaining experience. Started coaching at age 20 and his most recent posts were at Osasuna and then Granada. A 47% win rate at the latter.

Knutsen has a contract until the end of the Norwegian season in December. But it's said, he then has a desire to try something new. There are no reports of interest in him in any of the national papers over there.

My point being that most neutrals would suggest that Rafa is a far higher calibre manager than any of those on your list. I think your list is more realistic and akin with where I think we should be aiming our search on the basis that the more elite managers are out of our reach

I think you're under egging it by saying Rooney has done ok at Derby, incredible job when you look at their squad, they just beat Fulham last night. I like the way Rooney speaks and how he's operated at Derby, very professional when he could've easily publicly lost his rag. I like the way he spoke about Lampard jumping to the Chelsea job far too early and how he wouldn't make the same mistake. He turned down the Everton job for that reason but now Derby are pretty much gone, maybe he'll be ready for the next step in his career. Rooney will bring eyes to Burnley, we'll be the medias favourite club and referred to as ''Wayne Rooney's Burnley'' the same way Derby were under Frank. Then there's the pull and attraction for players to work with Rooney, same with Coutinho and Gerrard. If we're keeping it England based, I'd take Rooney.

His article is basically that Pace is heading to Europe to speak to a manager today. All domestic options appear off the cards. Also says that we want to appoint a permanent manager rather than previously reported interim.

Well that is a twist. Not sure about that - could be a Howe mk2 appointment - ie exciting but with the potential to go tits up I the same way. (I mean all appointments have the potential to go sour but I suspect the element of gamble is different if you went for someone say with experience.

If it were a toss up between Norwegian and Kompany I might tip towards Kompany - he knows the Emglish game and has contacts plus has respect
