Team v Saints
Obviously it won't be the same starting XI as at West Ham due to Westwood's unfortunate injury, so I guess Brownhill comes in for him, as for the rest I suspect we'll go with the same again after a decent showing on Sunday.

Same again for me. Wouldn’t mind Lennon for Dwight though
Re: Team v Saints
Not for me. Time for Dwight to shine. What I would like to see is him and Cornet rotating wings more within a game. We used to do this with Boyd/Arfield quite a bit and just adds that bit more flexibility.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 10:08 amSame again for me. Wouldn’t mind Lennon for Dwight though

Re: Team v Saints
Brownhill comes in.
Right back is 50/50.
I wouldn't mind Vydra playing the first hour and seeing if we can take our improved passing game a step further. I think he could link up really well with WW. Give Jay at least half an hour though.
He might change system though with more time to work with the lads. The U23s played 442 at Dyche's request though didn't they?

Re: Team v Saints
First off I'd move McNeil back left. Too one footed and we were so exposed Sunday with Cornet ahead of Taylor, putting Lowton behind him provides more security and a deep crossing option if Cornet can't cut it across the box or pulls defenders out of position. Plus lets Max cut in and shoot easier, he's proven to have a knack for the spectacular (albeit struggle with routine).
I'd actually consider swapping Cornet for Lennon and using him as an impact sub, given how he disrupts our own shape as much as the opposition, but he's our top scorer and probably best player, Southampton is winnable and needs to be won, so he has to start.

Anyone else feel slightly different about team selection now? Before I was always pleasantly surprised about an attacking lineup. Now I'm kind of expecting it...

Sorry about the cliché but I know who should be and who I think will be the 12th man.
I just wish I could be at TM tomorrow night.

Re: Team v Saints
Think we need to be more offensive for this one, I would allow Roberts back in for Lowton and get Vydra on to stretch the line and allow Wout more time and space when he comes deep. Still believe it makes it easier for defenders when both Wout and Jay drop deep.

Think I would like to start Vydra. He scored a worldie against this lot at the end of last season.

Really tough on Jay, who has been outstanding recently, but I think we could use Vydra's pace to stretch behind Southampton, who will press high given the way Hassenhutl plays.
I hear desire for Lennon, but McNeil makes an enormous difference to the quality of our ball retention, and for me Lennon hasn't actually produced enough end product for that to outweigh the importance of the basic skill of keeping the ball. You could play Lennon of Weghorst I suppose, but better to use Vydra in his correct position.

I think he scored 2 seasons in a row down at St Marys. I think he scored to put us 2-0 up there before we allowed them back in it to win 3-2.

Brownhill on 9 bookings. After tomorrow it doesn't matter. Place in midfield for Stephens?

Re: Team v Saints
Hopefully it's the Brownhill who looked the business against Liverpool and in one or two other games around the same period.
He has the game and his ball to Cornet for the resultant penalty was excellent but if he takes another free kick around the opposition box he wants more than a yellow card dishing out !!!

If he misses two games for reaching 10, I would risk him and tell him to constrain himself.Tomorrow is vital particularly if Everton get 3 points tonightSilkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 5:48 pmBrownhill on 9 bookings. After tomorrow it doesn't matter. Place in midfield for Stephens?
Only other change is Roberts to come in as Lowton was subbed last week. I am open minded who plays RB but there must have been a reason for the new team to sub him
And yes, keep Brownhill away from any free kicks if Cornet is on the pitch

Re: Team v Saints
I find it a bit inconsistent that you can have 9 bookings in a season and only miss 1 game, but 10 and you can miss 3!
Re: Team v Saints
Tactics v Saints
Don’t be afraid of shooting from outside the box
Take the ball to the by-line and pull it back
Quick throw-ins
Vary tactics for corners and free kicks
Keep composure around opposition penalty area
Don’t pass and watch, pass and sprint into space
Be creative and unpredictable!
