Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
They might survive this year, but they can't ship goals like they are and stay in the league. They average giving more than 2 goals a game, and you can't attribute that just to kalvin phillips being out (and especially if he leaves next year).

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Now under the new manager they are very attacking, and capable of getting 3 points from most opponents. I think if Bielsa had remained they would be lower down the table and worrying. Unlike us they took prompt action to change the manager

Do think Leeds have done enough but I’m still never sure about that defence. They have match winners in Raphinha and Harrison though.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
They are away to Crystal Palace on Monday and at home to Man City on Saturday. We could be a point above them by then.
Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
At this level it's the psychology as well. Leeds must have thought job done he other week, but if we win and Everton win this weekend. They don't play until Monday night, they could be playing Palace just a point above Everton and two more than us. That could have a massive impact on them. When you think you are safe, then from nowhere dragged back in....
There again if we don't get anything tomorrow they are away.

Leeds will go down next year.

It’s us or Everton. Leeds will get a couple of wins.

I don’t think Everton or Burnley will better Leeds’ results. They’ve got just enough in them to stay above us, just.

We don't want to jinx their relegation by talking about it.It would amongst the greatest end to the season if it happened though
Being born 10 miles from Goodison I always have had a soft spot for Everton.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Today is where it’s at for me, defining weekend given the week that Leeds and Everton. Time to stop setting for a point and win & take the initiative.
Win today and Leeds loose tomorrow and we are 2 points behind them as they play 3 big boys - they are right in the mire IF we can win.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Totally agree with the above post. We need to be making it a shootout between Leeds and Everton. The next 3 games are crucial. If we can come out of it above Leeds, then there is huge pressure on their last 2 games
Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Everton and Leeds will get a few Tierney types reffing their games, they'll do whats required, and they'll get probably a couple of wins.
Sky love them, and it'd be a travesty if they dropped.
As we've seen with VAR it can get involved as and when it wants, send the man to the screen where needed.
All its done is allow more grey areas so the powers that be get the desired results.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
I can certainly see them beating Brighton at home, and getting something at Brentford.
So say 4 points, that would give them 37.
Would that be enough? We shall have to wait and see.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
I can see them picking up enough points however, if they were to lose tomorrow, and we pick up enough points to go above them in our next 3 games, then facing Brighton at home and Brentford with all that pressure on suddenly becomes a different prospect.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 10:10 amI can certainly see them beating Brighton at home, and getting something at Brentford.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
We aren't under pressure unless both Burnley and Everton start picking up points and even if they do now Cooper and Phillips are back we are more like the top half side of last year.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 11:18 amI can see them picking up enough points however, if they were to lose tomorrow, and we pick up enough points to go above them in our next 3 games, then facing Brighton at home and Brentford with all that pressure on suddenly becomes a different prospect.
Burnley need to worry about Everton and Everton only

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Nice sentiment but staying up is just as much about how many points Everton get as it is about how many points Burnley get. The players can only control their own results but as fans the Everton games are as big and as important as the Burnley games
Put it this way would you prefer Burnley and Everton to both win today or would you prefer Burnley to draw and Everton to lose?

It's all ifs buts and maybe.
If we win today and Leeds get beat the pressure is on them, especially with Man City being their next game. Every game from now until the end of the season is like a cup tie, the team that olds its nerve and finds form will stay up

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Spot on we need to ask the question of Everton and Leeds do they have the nerve for a relegation battle, and we've got a great chance in our next 3 games to really ramp up the pressure on both given how the fixtures fall.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 11:18 amI can see them picking up enough points however, if they were to lose tomorrow, and we pick up enough points to go above them in our next 3 games, then facing Brighton at home and Brentford with all that pressure on suddenly becomes a different prospect.
I still think Leeds will gain enough points to finish above either us or Everton, but we can only ask the question of them.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
The former. We have to get to 38 points. That helps us.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 11:47 amNice sentiment but staying up is just as much about how many points Everton get as it is about how many points Burnley get. It also pulls Leeds right in.
38 points hasn't gone down for a long time. We have to want Burnley to win. That's it. You can only control yourself not othere.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
I want Burnley to win but if I had a straight choice between Burnley and Everton both winning or Burnley drawing and Everton losing Id go for the latter because I believe Burnley staying up is simply about finishing on more points than Everton regardless if that is 35pts or 38ptsCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 12:58 pmThe former. I understand that you might be a negative kind of person who doesn't believe we can finish above Everton so dont care what they do but I believe Burnley can finish above them and survive

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Big game tomorrow for Leeds now, let's see how they handle the pressure of playing last, lose at Palace, and with City looming suddenly they'll be looking uncomfortably over their shoulders.
Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Leeds fans definitely anxious now across social media and some suggesting they have to win. Bit different from their ‘Leeds are staying up’ chants at Watford a few weeks back.

Beat Watford on Saturday and we go above them before they play City. Then they have Arsenal & Chelsea. I think it might just be them who go.

Next weekend is the key.
We get a win at Watford, Leeds won't get anything against City , then Everton play Chelsea on Sunday.
It could look quite rosy next Sunday evening.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
When you look at the next 3 games, it’s not difficult to imagine a scenario where Leeds go into the last two games in the bottom 3. That’s going to put a hell of a lot of pressure on a team that probably hasn’t been overly concerned up to now.
Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
With five games to go for us this was the precarious position we found ourselves in after the Man City game (five games ago).
Sows how much ground we've made up.

Us winning yesterday, no matter what Everton did, has pulled Leeds right into it. If we beat Watford them Villa at home (big if I accept) we could be 3 pts ahead of Leeds with a far better GD and 2 games to go. Leeds finishing with Brighton at home and Brentford away isn’t a gimme either.
I think Leeds finish on 37.

Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
Maybe not but Jesse Marsch has made them much harder to beat, and under Bielsa they were so open it was unreal.
At this stage of the season would they rather grind out a hard-fought 0-0, or go down 3-2 in a thriller.
And that point nudges them further away from Everton, who although they still have a game in hand over both Burnley & Leeds face huge pressure on winning that game just to get back on parity with both.
Mind you Leeds GD is a potential issue for them if that's what it comes down to.

Have to agree, thought they were mediocre at best and I wouldn't be happy with a point if it was us who had those next three games ahead of us and already such a poor GD.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 11:39 pmMaybe they are harder to beat, but I’m surprised they didn’t give it more of a go tonight with the games they have coming up.

As long as it isn’t us
Re: Why is nobody mentioning Leeds?
I think they will be okay and still pick up enough points to survive. They are certainly harder to beat under their new Manager.
