I considered that Akinbiyi goal. It mean so much at the time. We'd had a slow start to the season, Premier league football and the opportunity to play those Top teams seemed like an impossible dream.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 9:40 amAkinbiyi away at Chelsea in the cup
Ings at Ewood
Barnes at home to Wigan
Was hard not to include Cornet's at home to Everton.

Edit - but then I read the thread and there are lot more that could equally be in there.

That’s the thing isn’t it. That night it seemed like one of the greatest moments I’d seen but six months later it was only the third best that season!Sleeping Cat wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 10:06 amI considered that Akinbiyi goal. Three that simply stick in the memory
Lochhead vs WBA 1968 at home the same season Burnley lost 8.1 away. A shot from his own half
Trevor Steven at Lincoln in 1982, near the end of the season in a midweek game and a must not lose game as Lincoln were close rivals for promotion. Close to injury time a thunderbolt from about 30 yards to equalise
Billy Hamilton with the fourth at Tottenham in THE League Cup match in 1983.

The best individual goal has to be Ashley Hoskin's against Swansea. He was only 18 at the time.

Re: 3 favourite Burnley goals ever?
I appreciate most of the goals already picked are connected to a more emotional aspect of supporting Burnley, play off final, against Rovers United etc, promotions and staying in the football league. There are probably too many quality finishes to pick out just three, but the one I always think of, and hasn’t been mentioned yet, is the twenty odd pass before Hendrick’s neat little feign and slotting home goal at Goodison.

Re: 3 favourite Burnley goals ever?
Anyone remember a goal about 20 years ago?
I think it was a deep cross from Paul Smith. Glen knocked it in at the back post. Cricket field stand end. Can't for the life of me remember who it was against. But remember it being a damn good goal

Could be Grimsby 1988 you are thinking of. Check these.

The one against Wolves was pretty damn good when you watch it all the way back to Pope rolling it to Taylor.

On a separate note, is there any footage of Hyde’s goal versus them? Remember trying to listen to it whilst driving round Basra.

Forgive me if I missed it but quite surprised not to see Michael Keanes goal vs Boro mentioned. Huge goal in terms of the title race and I don't think I've ever seen the Turf as loud as that. Loved it.

Re: 3 favourite Burnley goals ever?
Some great goals over the years and my choice will show my age but here goes
Brian Pilkington...2nd goal v Hamburg
Robbie Blake...35 yard free kick v Preston..year ?
Wade...Wembley
I was also on the Turf for the Tommy Cummings goal in 1952 but I was only 7 and I can't remember it in detail so I'm not counting it .I was with my late dad and Uncle George and my cousin Graham who I hero worshipped because he went on to play for Stanley .He broke his leg playing against one of the Bradford teams ( 1959 / 60 ish ? ) and never really played again ( Corkscrew fracture )..Real shame because Stanley had just had a bid for him from Leicester City but were holding out because Spurs were reputedly interested. Might have made a difference to Stanley's existence .Who knows ?

I was at this game. We drew two all. Coates had a monumental game in midfield. From two nil down Coates asserted himself and helped Steve Kindon score two goals.claretblue wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 6:40 pm- Ralph Coates, home to Chelsea FA cup (1969?)
