Maybe this post is more for the older clarets like me is this, but, i know the 1987 game v Orient is known as the great escape, due to the massive importance, however if we are to pull this one off this season, would you class this being our greatest escape ever?

No because we should never have been in this position. The Orient season that side was shocking.

After 21 games we were on 14 points and bottom of the table. We were 7 points behind 17th placed Newcastle and 8 behind Everton although we've since played 2 games more than them.

That's a pretty massive turn around. Our form since then continued over a full season would give us 53.8 points which is just about exactly the same as we got the year we finished 7th.

However ,as a big Dyche fan I also believed we would stay up and I am still convinced we will survive

Nowhere near. That season back in 86/87 was dire. Attendances of approximately 2500 per home match that witnessed a trio of Youth Training Scheme students featuring regularly so we could field a team of 11. This season we have a squad of professional players who have achieved points from 19 games out of the 33 played so far. Only Liverpool and Man C have each beaten us twice. If some of the 13 draws had been seen out as wins we would have been in a much secure position now.

If we hadn't stayed up in 1987 there might not have been a Burnley FC to watch or a Turf Moor to watch in, in 2022. There's a fair chance there would, but also a fair chance there wouldn't. The position was that dire.

Reminds me of the season leicester was in the bottom 3 all season and had a great escape them selves eventualy finishing on 41 points. The season after they won the league.

nowhere near. As one of the die-hard 2,500 attendees I can only support what others have said. If we had gone down that season, who knows where we would be right now, if at all, whereas if we get relegated this season we would have a good chance of promotion next season to the Premier League

What im getting at is i thought we was dead and buried after we was beat off Norwich this season and in 87 it was only when we got beat off Crewe i thought we'd had it. I went to almost every game back in the 80's, and YES we was awful. We only took around 4 points in our last six games in 87.

Never to be proven if SD would have kept us up, the current management have 7 out of nine points so that is proven and possibly more to come. The team are doing well now they are allowed to play so in my opinion SD would have taken us down going off how the team were playing.

No. However just like all of the poster's on here that were at the Orient game I reckon that we will all be punching the air in the same way, if it comes down to the wire against Newcastle.

Could argue our escape under Waddle was greater, we couldn't buy a win for love or money that season, then embarked on a mad run of form that ended with us relegating Plymouth in a last day relegation decider when all seemed lost.

It's bizarre as dire as we've been this season we've generally managed to remain in touch with the sides around us, and by remaining in touch, now we've started to regain form has allowed us to leapfrog Everton and perhaps Leeds soon.

No contest when comparing dropping into the Championship or dropping out of the football league. Just ask Oldham fans which one they would prefer. However, staying up will be a massive achievement.

We could do with getting a band into the back of the Cricket Field Stand to play the tune and stoke up the atmosphere.

Always thought it sounded brilliant when you played at a club who had a drummer boy leading the fans singing section and think Burnley have really missed a trick on this one.

Come on Mr Pace sort it out and maybe jdrobbo could do one of his Twitter campaigns
